Monster Reborn
Added 2023-06-24 00:41:50 +0000 UTCAfter feeling a little burnt out over the last few days I decided I had to recalibrate - doing that meant taking a day for myself instead of trying to struggle thru client work, and I decided to put out a call on twitter for recommended YGO magic/trap cards I could paint.
Monster Reborn won out - this is a fairly liberal reinterpretation, but given that the "original" was itself a heavily censored Ankh covered in meaningless fantasy ornament, I felt like I had a bit of leeway elaborating on this kind of art nouveau/prog fantasy vignette. "Monster Reborn" always fascinated me as a child - it became emblematic of it's own effect, but like so many early YGO cards the depiction ( on the Western version shorn of egyptian symbolism) just invited more speculation as to the mechanism or nature of the card within it's fiction. Is Monster Reborn a ritual implement? An offering? A symbol of divine victory over death? How is it used? Is it simply an omen that heralds a natural death of death that occurs within the world it dwells in?
I had a lot of fun with this one.
