Chapter 47: What do you do when you’re out clubbing and your drunk mates goes on his own side quest?

“What is it?” Lucas said.

“I can’t say. I just got a new mission. And it says I’m not allowed to tell anyone or the mission will delete itself. Also, I have to accept it right now… holy shit it’s a good deal! Bye gay boys!” Jack said, and vanished out of thin air.

There was a moment of silence. Brian and Lucas just stared at each other.

“This is the second time he just ups and disappears,” Brian said.

“That healing shit,” Luacs said.

“That healing shit,” Brian said.

“Let’s go home,” Lucas said.

“Sounds like a good idea,” Brian said.

They didn’t feel like going partying without Jack there. They didn’t tell him, but he was the main reason they even went to that girl’s bar in the first place. Since he was gone, they just stayed home and played video games while eating snacks and pizza. Lucas’ favorite pizza was pepperoni and Brian’s was margarita.

“I wish there was some kind of regeneration skill so I don’t have to wait for Jack to get my fingers back,” Lucas said.

“Maybe there is? You should try to spend your next skill point on that,” Brian said.

“True, true.”

“What you think Jack is up to right now?” Lucas said.

“I dunno. Some other fucking alien or some shit. Maybe the snail wanted to see him again. Who knows,” Brian said.

“I’m gonna get that missions shit. And get my mental skills. Probably gonna get a shit ton of requests for that,” Lucas said.

“Maybe. I don’t want no missions and shit. I like the comfortable life. I’m not an adventurer,” Brian said.

They kept relaxing for the rest of the day and then went back in the next day for more grinding.

While they were popping Balloon Monsters, both of them received a notification.

Challenge: Look into a tier 3 zone

Reward: 1 unfixed skill point

“Fuck no,” Brian said.

“It said just look into. Maybe we can manage?” Lucas said.

“Maybe. But what? Build a siege engine. Get a shit ton of bullets. Buy binoculars? and then get fucked up by some snail.”

“Look, we never saw any monsters leave their zones. So maybe it’s fine if we are far away with binoculars?” Lucas said.

He really wanted another skill point.

“Fuck it. Why not. Okay,” Brian said.

They found Johnny and got a skill crystal from him and told him to go home. Then they went to the border between the wolf monster zone and the balloon monster zone.

“Okay. You can do the honor,” Brian said.

“Don’t mind if I do.” Lucas popped the yellow skill crystal and yellow energy flowed into his arm.

“Don’t call me a fucking Indian, shit system,” Lucas said.

“Maybe you can get a customer support skill next,” Brian said.

“Fuck off.”

Brian and Lucas started building a siege engine. And they were very bad at it.

“I didn’t realize how useful Jack’s skill really was,” Brian said, while trying to design a similar siege engine.

“I know what we should do. Buy a small tank. One for riots. Break it into pieces. Teleport it into the game. Boom. Tier 3 zones and beyond,” Lucas said.

“That is a good idea. How much does one of those cost and how do we get one?” Brian said.

“I don’t fucking know. Ask Howard? he prolly has the connect.”

It took too much work trying to build the siege engine without Jack and with raw materials. So they went back to the real world and loaded up on stuff like saws and rope and tape and other building materials and started transporting it in. They also bought loads of bullets and two pairs of binoculars to look into the other zone.

It took them until the next day and another chill night at home gaming and eating pizza until they were finished with the siege engine.

For this one they bought wheels and created a crude internal rolling mechanism. It made life a lot easier.

Lucas also bought earplugs because his ears were starting to hurt from gunshot sounds.

And so, they made their way into the big wolf monster zone and shot a lot of wolves. None of the wolves managed to make it all the way to their siege engine.

“I wanna take off this kevlar shit. Maybe I’ll get a cooling skill or some shit. Fucking hot,” Lucas said.

“So you wanna die? this kevlar saved my life. Just keep it on,” Brian said.

“Okay, but still sucks. Let’s buy something I can breathe in. Sweaty as fuck,” Lucas said.

“Since when did you become such a bitch? Not too long ago we were homeless sleeping in trash,” Brian said.

“I didn’t choose the luxury life, it chose me. Champagne girls changed me, what can I say,” Lucas said.

They stopped talking when blue trees appeared on the horizon.
