I spent a couple years in Kansas - imagine! I loved the tree-lined sidewalks, the kind people, all the good things. The flatness, though - I was born in W WA, stayed til my teens, then moved to Alaska for a few years. Then W VA for most of a year, and suddenly KS. Oh, the shock of it! LOL I love our green, mountainous, wet and mild W WA. After a number of years at home again, I spent a couple years in NC and am still laughing about something there. Talking with a neighbor about a trip I'd just taken in the Smoky Mountains, he commented on their beautiful "mountains". I tried to explain mountains to him, and he just could not get it, until I finally said "Look, mountains where I come from have snow on top year round." Wish you could see the look on his face and hear him stutter. The poor man will never be the same again.
