Yesterday I went amd bought two plum trees and a pineapple guava to add to my new and growing orchard! The nursery had nice sized broccoli starts and brussel sprouts starts so I bought those too to plant mostly in my container bucket garden around my front porch area. Composted cow manure was what she suggested when planting the trees!

My wife and I started gardening two years ago here in Southern New Mexico which is a harsh environment, very windy and hard on seedlings. Some of the lessons we have learned during that time are what the difference is between hybrid and heirloom seeds. Heirloom vegetable plants will adapt to your area and weather over the seasons if you plant the seeds you get from the surviving plants. We learned how hard it is to grow your own food and the joy and sense of accomplishment of eating the things you have grown. We have also learned to respect our farmers and how hard they work. The farmer is one of the most underappreciated people in the United States. Does anyone here save seeds and have any suggestions on how to save your heirloom seeds for future seasons?
