BONUS - SMALL TOWN MURDER - ED GEIN DEATH FARM

This week, James and Jimmie discuss what was going on in Ed Gein's house.

OoooOOOooOOOooh that smell! Can't ya smell that smell?

Comments

I'm not usually phased by description of things but THIS is apparently my limit

June

Put that down, Alan! Don’t open that box, Alan!🤣

Claudia Barrie

It’s like they were answering for him a lot

Jason Davidson

A box of box 😂

Jason Davidson

My gramma randomly mentioned to me that her stepmother was given "venison" to her from Ed Gein.

Tim Olson

Dry cheddar cheese ruins the pie.

Tim Olson

What’s up Turkeys?!?! Here I am, 06/03/2025, feening for some of the Fellas, and here I stumble Upon this gym (gem) of an episode that I somehow missed! Whoopi for Me!!!🫶🏾

Zachary Leatherwood

So I was pretty shocked through all of this episode, even though I've listened to it all be described before, but it was the nipple doorbell that was the definitive OH MY FUCKING HELL. I feel like maybe I'm a little desensitized? Maybe I listen to too many murder podcasts? 😫😫😫😫

Andrea Taylor

There’s a few sk’s I actually believe have more victims and some have way way more. Gary Ridgeway Ed Kemper Keith Hunter Jesperson (Happy Face Killer) Tool Box Murders Richard Ramirez Sam Little Robert Pickton (WOW)

Alisun Shyn 🇨🇦

Y’all need to really do something about the Green River Killer. Gary Ridgeway. Likely one of the top; or close to the top body count for an American Serial Killer, excluding medical etc.

Alisun Shyn 🇨🇦

Ed Kemper in my mind was so much worse. He was into everything from killing co-Ed’s, dismembering his mother and then practicing necrophillia and other disgusting horrific acts. He was also likely the first to come up with the term ‘serial killer’. He was a hella smart genius who knew how to use the system to get away with anything he wanted to. But he also knew he couldn’t stop, so turned himself in. To me, he is farrrr more interesting than any Bundy, gein, dahmer, hillside stranglers, etc. He needs to be studied in depth.

Alisun Shyn 🇨🇦

He used a gambrel to string her up. Just like a deer hunter uses. Incredible. Those poor police must have PTSD from the experience of finding such a horrific situation.

Tracey

My friends and I were in Plainfield a few years ago and me being obsessed with true crime knew about Ed Gein. Since I was the driver, I drove us to the cemetery he is buried in. There are three identical stones for his mom, dad and brother, but rumor has it that his stone was stolen. There is a blank plot where his should be.

TBitt

..” just threw up in my mouth a little “

Not George

No shit my dads family was actually familiar with the guy. Its claimed they talked to him, but you can take a grain of salt from that

Justin Govas

I personally can’t get enough of Ed Gein. I like the different perspectives and telling of the story.

Ian Lynch

I've heard the story of Ed Gein so many times but you guys breaking down all the grossness was great!!

Lori Coble

Is this on a shirt yet?

Stephanie Sage

Great pairing The Story of Ed Gein and Chinese Food- see you in Wisconsin in September

Lisa Yuknavage

I kinda wish that Ed had been around to be featured on "Hoarders". I think having Dr. Robin Zasio talk to Ed would be amazing. "So Ed, you have a whole box of vulvae... do you need all of them or can we let some of these go?"

Dave Anderson

Anyone else dying to know what podcasts they don’t think are funny?

Megan Crowley

Coming from a Wisconsinite, I prefer bleu cheese on my nipples

Gavin Long

What. In. The. Actual. Fuck!

Matt Studer

I found Small town murder when looking for podcasts covering less known cases! That's the reason I started listning. I've had enough of all the cookie cutter podcasts retelling the same story over and over again. The only way I'd listen to anything regarding Dahmer, Gacy or Bundy again is if there's an entirely new angle! So thanks guys for this podcast😘

Malin Oskarsson

Unbelievable!

Brad Hildebrand

That was wild, guys!

Sheila Munroe

I think it's our long cold winters and cabin fever that makes us Wisconsinites crazy

Tim Olson

I read a book about this guy. Yikes.

debbie ralph

LETS STOP TALKING ABOUT THE NEW PATREON EPISODES ON THE WEEKLY SHOW AND RELEASE THEM!!! TY. 😘

Savage Randy

so excited to hear about the psychology behind this

allison middlemiss

Holy crap!! Been listening to STM and CIS for 3 years and I’ve been a Patreon subscriber for 2 years,,,,, listened to every episode,,, by far the most fucked up episode I’ve ever listened too!!Great work! You guys are righteous!!

Cody German

Lol I'm with u on that shit I'm a wisconsinite myself and I just commented on how Gein and Dahmer are horror stories they just tell us when we're young

Robert Clark - Bancroft

Dude as a wisconsinite we all hear these fucked up horror stories when we're young lol! Dahmer and gein lol why do u think we're the drunkest state!? Haha

Robert Clark - Bancroft

Kamryn Garcia

How do I get this podcast on my iphone

Nancy Hamilton

The popping heads off like Barbie dolls about got me 😅😅

Jen Hoffman

Anyone else wish the Slayer song “Dead Skin Mask” would have been playing in the background?

Rob Dean

Ed Gein: Interior Decorator

Rob Dean

Wow, this was a deep dive! Can't wait for the second episode!

Amandaisajerk

I kinda want you do a killers that been killed in jail and Why & If killers got praise 👏?

Shawn Sampson

Thanks for covering unknown stories!! I love that about your podcasts 💕 keep em coming!! Even though it’s a known case…it was an awesome episode!!!

Jodi Smith

Can you guys do a show at my house on the 14th of August after 3 p.m. but before 9pm only if the weather is warm. But not to warm. I'd say in the 80 degree range........

Aaron Salisbury

O.m.g. Ed complaining about the low quality cheese tho like 💅

Cassie Costello

I think I've heard too much TrueCrime. Over here eating breakfast like

Cassie Costello

As a true Wisconsinite, your version has been one of the best! Plainfield has never truly healed from it, even to this day.

Jenna Lemke

I love that you guys cover stories that haven’t been done to death. The ones you do that I have heard before, no one does them like you two!

Tarnya Manning

Helena is pronounced hellina. Not helina. James. U just need to click on those pronunciation icon. They’ll set u straight. Like u give 2 shits. Lazy bastards. JK. just started listening Man if’n I’m in a bad mood. I b laughing’. Tug closet. Almost pissed my pants. 5 stars gentleman. Molt Montana had murder over $35. 🙄😬

steve browm

🫨🤯♥️

StevieSmiles

There’s gotta be more people out there like this, right,?? What a sicko

Adrienne

Hey guys! Is anyone else unable to play the episode “never sing your confessions”?? I keep trying ever since it came out but I just get an error message. All other episodes play fine! I am also subscribed to wondery+ and neither version would work (the free one or the wondery+) 😢

Fatimah k

Can you guys do a live show in Saint Louis MO sometime??? I was hospitalized and this is what kept me sane I would like to get to a live show but all of them are to far (like Kansas City and Chicago)

Ginny

Loved this. Can you guys do a show on Derek Ernest Percy one day?

Shaye Yuill

"Deviant" really is a great book. And free on Audible, I believe

Vince

In the box, Ed says it's GEEN

Vince

OMG how gross

Brandy Martin

Not much to see. Just some trees and a field. Still kinda cool to check it out

Josh Bock

At the end of the year I head to Minneapolis and I'm going to stop by...

Jeff Ignatowski

Ed had a pocket pussy 🤣

Daniel

On a different note. Good job on this story. 30 years ago my husband and I were trying to put together a student film about him ( we have a lot of connections to this area) We tried to interview a few people about it and boy, did the news spread fast. To this day no one wants to talk about it and if you bring it up, you pretty much get run out of town. It’s weird and wild. Some towns would own this sort of thing and make it into some sort of money making venture, but not here. I still wonder what has happened to a lot that was sold before the place “ caught fire”😳

Jackie Goetz

I wonder if he had some teriyaki twat in that box🤔

SCHLAPIA

I knew people that were baby sat by ed. Well they weren’t babies, but younger pre teens. The one I knew said he was just a weird sweet guy with some great stories …. 😳😳😳

Jackie Goetz

🎶 he kept her face in a bag

LeeAnne Stavrakas

i listened to oj on way work today and now i’m goin listen to ed i’m 18 have no clue who this is excited

Maguire Detlefsen

okay who’s ed

Maguire Detlefsen

I thought that too, but just finished OJ and that story is horrific on a whole different level.

Susan McFarland

Cannot wait to listen first thing in the AM! I thrive on James and Jimmi! Gets me through my day with laughs. I WISH they would have a show close enough to my hometown The beautiful PNW!!!

Columbokane

I don't think that you're " fucking up " ( top of episode regarding your podcasts ) !! What you guys do is exactly what sets you apart, and I love all of your podcasts! 🤩

Sue Steible

ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

Jeremy James

My sons’ band when they were children was called Dead Bug, the name of I think their only song was Buckets of Buckets. Very chaotic, mostly because nobody could play their instruments, except maybe their very savvy friend on drums.

Eldergoth

OMG, what a messed up story.

Grace Luterek

Dance with the dead in my dreams Listen to their hallowed screams The dead have taken my soul Temptation lost all control

Tim Olson

I’m listening to James describe the body in the shed - that picture was in the Milwaukee Journal when Ed died. It was a black and white picture, not on the main page but part of the story a few pages in.

Michele S

Yeah, it is. 🤐

Don Nelson

Can you decide how you're going to pronounce his last name, James? I've always heard "Geen", but it's a German name, so would be pronounced "Gine", but never have I heard "Gayn". Make up yer fuckin mind, eh?

Don Nelson

More shocking than a box of pussies!! 😂😂😂

ScottieBizzle6789

For the record, I fucking love Minor Threat and Operation Ivy. 😅

Paddy McCue

WOW!

Lisa Hairston

A nipple doorbell? I just grabbed myself thinking of the pain. How…frightening

Taylor Van Epps

Crazy crazy episode

Tony Legg

He is like what if a killer had ADHD and couldn’t focus

Jules Harris

Absolutely horrid episode. Fantastic job guys!!

Savannah Mick

When you revisit the subject. Are you going to focus on the suspicion of Ed possibly murdering his brother?

Duct Taped Brain

Hey guys can you do Hunter S. Thompson...

Si Fyi

This man was a babysitter for a lot of families in this town.

Amber Wright

This was outstanding. Thanks guys

Brenda

Listening to Jimmie exclaim throughout James's descriptions was the funniest shit I've heard in awhile. Just awesome. Good job!

Gay Black Jewish N@zi for Christ in Canada

Am I the only one that remembers the band “Ed Gein’s Car”?

Dianne Davis

I wish I hadn't been eating my chicken salad sandwich while listening.. lol

Dawn Bouchard

I'm just glad I didn't listen to this one before going to bed because sweet holy christ what a fucking freak. I've been suffering with night terrors recently and this would have had me crying under the bed or keeping my wife up all night. This is one of your best, thank god I had Your Stupid Opinions to cleanse my soul afterwards.

Justin Glover

You guys, 1st I fucking love everything you produce. 2ndly dear god this is really one of the craziest things I’ve heard for real. Thank you for all the weird crazy shit you make for us 👏👏🙌🤢🤮

Squirrel

I'm sure he's desensitized because humanity is so fucked 🤣

Kyle Bearce

I told my friend that this one was almost too much. Even though I’d heard almost all of the details they gave, it was bits here and there from various articles and books over a period of years . All of that at once in an hour and change definitely hits different.

Jennifer Byrd

This one I had to take breaks from and revisit, to listen to in pieces. Does your research ever cause you nightmares? Phew!

Jane

Gein is the most Gothic of the serial killers.

Tom Calandrella

That's a helluva thing to do to your head

Tom Calandrella

What is happening in Wisconsin. I remember my grandma telling me about Gein and didn’t believe her. Crazy episode.

Gina Johnson

😜 it's the hairbrush for me.

Angelina Marconi

Hahaha

Eldergoth

Gein is horrifying, yet fascinating.

Liz Rutherford

Fuck you, I'm out

Scott Miller

Disturbing but yet I’m so fascinated.

Ann-Marie Watson

I’m trying to find the episode when Jimmie’s says cardi b is a make a wish kid 😂 can anybody tell me what ep it is pretty please??

Aussie Jen

There is a really great book on the making of Psycho that the Anthony Hopkins film was based on, really terrifying how obsessed Hitchcock became with Gein's story sometimes overlooking the novel just to focus on Gein.

Stephen Watts

Nothing is wrong with you, guys. You have morals! Few do these days. 🤦🏼‍♀️ We love the small town shit! 🤘🏼

Rae Rae

Right? My mom lives in Adams/Friendship and I get the creepies whenever I see signs for that town.

Nikki Weed

1:11:26 best James and Jimmie moment to date!

Nicole

I was so excited for this episode, well done! My dad lives in Wisconsin Rapids, so I know this part of the state well. Ed Gein is such a fascinating character. All of this horror inside a small, unassuming man. I always thought Norman Bates as the best representation of Ed, the creepy factor, the taxidermy, the house! Looking forward to the rest of the story!

Tammy Hedrick

Rotting vulva🤢🤢🤢

Elizabeth Freeman

jesus fucking christ

Acacia Hollifield

Pussy Jerky Lol. I remember tripping on acid and watching a show on Ed w my friends. When they talked about the box of vulva. I said whoa when he eats pushy, he really eats it. Harold Shecklter is an awesome author. It's crazy how many movies, books Ed has inspired w only 2 murders. There's 2 cannibal stories you guys covered that are so much more brutal. I think Ed's house really added to the grossness of the story

Dr Phil Goode 👹🌲🔥

Not you guys making me like Ed Gein. hahahahaha Great episode! Thank you

Stephanie Seviour

Love finding things like this. Adding it to the list of things to see in Vegas! Alcatraz East in Pigeon Gorge has John Wayne Gacy's clown suit. The feeling while viewing it still sticks with me. I imagine it's similar.

Katie Jesse

Box of box 📦 ✨️

Katie Jesse

I went to Zac Bagan's Haunted Museum out in Vegas a few years ago and in it, Mr. Ghost Bro Bagans has Ed Gein's cauldron. On top of it being a really uncomfortable artifact to view, Bagans had an exact replica of Ed Gein's barn built complete with the smell of musty hay and I don't even know what else. That replica barn was horrifying but the descriptions of Gein's house sound worse. Bagans should have had a replica of the bedroom built instead. That would have sent people running out of the exhibit.

JuleeAnn Armstrong

No, a lot have never heard of Gein. Many do not know that Norman Bates was modeled after Gein. It’s not one of my favorite TCs out there but the lid has barely been lifted on this guy. I can’t wait for the next installment in two weeks.

Charles Jewell

Was anyone else screaming "geen" when James said "gain"? Loved the episode

Chris & Aurora

I love you guys so damn much. You tickle my dark morbid soul. Thanks a million

Holy crow you got a droopy butthole.

Am I the only one that has no idea who Ed Gein is?

Jesse

I’ve been saying this since they started talking about this Patreon episode! I was hoping I wasn’t the only one lol

Matthew Eagle

So we've always pronounced it as "Geen"

Andrew Betts

Still not worse than Hitler, right?

Cory Dyani

Ed Gein is the real life inspiration for much of our pop culture. Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Norman Bates and Buffalo Bill (Silence of the Lambs). He is one of the most (un)well-known characters.

Mando Caljizzian

How did he not just stink of death? Especially if he didn’t bathe.

Eldergoth

I've been to that site, the cemetery, and that town . On the anniversary of his birthday once. Got the heebiest of jeebies! Also one hell of a great story to tell around a campfire!

Unkl Kenny

Another great episode guys 👍

Stephen Tot

Wowza. Aren't we all encouraged to reduce, reuse and recycle these days? EWE.

Liz Harper

Thanks for being the Minor Threat of True Crime podcasts. You rock!!!

Eldergoth

Being “punkrock” rocks that attitude is why i listen to u guys 🤘

dhigueracooke

disturbing as fuck

Joe DeSalvo

You guys need to do a bonus about Richard Byrd: the last Vegas strip strangler! Very few people know about him he was caught the day after 9/11 and flew way u see the radar because of that. He was one sick puppy 😉

Justin Mackenzie

It’s honestly about your takes, not the material. A lot of people make true crime podcasts but you two have genuine insight into trauma, human nature, and a gift for finding the humor in darkness of it all. Most podcasters are just not that good. You guys have a gift.

Grumpy Aunt

You’re free and independent guys! Haha! I love the choices for stories and topics. Perfection; all 3 shows.

Cher Love Strong (#LocalWeedia)

As a lifelong Wisconsinite Ed Gein is a skidmark on our state's history. I've been to Plainfield many times and it's still a creepy ass town.

Tim Olson

This is the first time I’ve ever heard the term “pussy jerky”.

Alicia C

Better start with this one and use OJ as a palate cleanser

Jordyn Fahey

Used to live/work in Waushara County. They're still pretty prickly about Ed Gein

Laura Chadwick

🤣😂 Plainfield Wi

Pamela Greenlee

My comfort podcast duo, coming through when I need ya the most. Been listening to you guys all day. Excited to hear you two talk about nipple belts and mommy issues. lol

Betsy Besaw

Love your idiot, punk rock asses!

Farrah R

Yaaaay! Perfect timing for my Sunday cleaning :)
