BONUS - SMALL TOWN MURDER - OLD TIMEY MURDERS

This week, James and Jimmie discuss some more old timey murders!

Comments

I had no idea tetanus could do that to you.

Ryan Booth

The guy at the end stole the part of the young from the AA book 😂🤣😂

Dr. Alfred Moore Jr.

"I need some scope that goes both ways" - Jimmy's statement was diabolical 🤣😂🤣😂 puss in mouth 😂🤣😂🤣😂

Dr. Alfred Moore Jr.

In 1929, my grandpapa's baby sister was in the shed playing with matches and it suddenly went up in flames. My grandpapa did his best to save her, but she died two days later. The doctors said that she breathed in some flames. He never got over that. She was only 4 years old.

magnoliasouth

Wheat penny is a half a cent, I couldn't find anyone posting it lol

Matt Jensen

James, the bartender who served the liquor that the guy drank to death might have violated local dram shop laws meant to curb public drunkenness. DUI laws probably grew out of dram shop policies, as cars grew to millions.

Dennis McIntosh

headache powder is likely paracetamol aka acetamenophen which is so common to cause overdoses outside the US its controlled in the same way we control pseudophedrine here in the states

Chris Mcdaniel

"Hydrophobia dog bite" likely refers to rabies, which results in an inability to swallow liquids.

Emily Olive Petit

Funniest ish ever, I’m giving you 3 days to take it back 😂😂

Gwendolyn Chambers

Lily pootyhands 😂

Moth Mane

Hello fellow Michigander!!!

Amanda Bauerschmidt

Seconding this! Such a great read.

Donielle Leonardis

A lot of these remind me of the book “The Poisoner’s Handbook” which is awesome. James, check it out if you haven’t read it.

Polly DeLucia

Holy shit!!

Fran Hitzke

I am from Michigan ALL of these buildings and landmarks, so familiar 😆

Marly Moore

I hope I die of hunger while threatening police

Frog Hands Frog Legs

Tetanus was everywhere. It lives in the dirt, so you can get it from a shrub.

Michelle Brown

my grandmother had her head crushed like that in an elevator. luckily it was stopped before she died, but she lost all of her teeth

Diana Carfire

Hahahaha I sang that to my daughter when she was little!

Liesl Manone

Salt lake has a huge Greek community. The Greek Festival is a huge event every year.

Sherrie Holm

OMG! I’m pretty sure I know the “burn victim multi level marketing lunatics couple”. I would have to look up the name but when I moved from Toronto to Alberta in 2012-2013 ish I attended a stupid MLM meeting hosted by the couple, the husband stated he was in a fire previously where he suffered burns over most of his body. He used that in his “marketing” spiel about energy drinks at the time I attended the meeting, possibly associated with AMWAY. His wife and himself would host the MLM meetings in their upscale house in the Red Deer, Alberta area. It was always full of very young 17-25 year olds, what they deemed as impressionable and overall dumb individuals (I totally group myself into this). It may not be the person…however, what are the odds😂😂 . I feel like his name was Sean/Shaun or something, he was possibly a ginger or had strawberry blonde hair, light eyes! Married a petite woman with blonde/brown highlighted hair, blue eyes and had perhaps 3 kids. I would love to know if it’s the same couple!

Brittany Yard

Rabies can cause hydrophobic reactions which will lead to death. Still happens to this day

nickolas mccombe

From the CO too!

nickolas mccombe

Hydrophoby is what they called Rabies in old timey days. Remember 'Old Yeller' ?!? Love you guys...from Sonoma County, CA

Carol Shook

Sending love from Colo Spgs! Love you guys

Tammy

When are we getting new love after lockup content ?? It’s been like a year boys :(

Amber Nicole Alston

I'd probably kill someone if they fucked with my corn... love that stuff

Jae Melton

I would like to know more about Thomas and what happened to him. How does a child kill 9 family members.? Crazy.

Amanda Getter

Joe Donnelly was a man of his word. 😅

melissa navin

I hope y'all make a "Puss n Mouth" shirt 😂😆

Penny Lindsey

Came here to say exactly these two things! Yep! Tetanus can be on many surfaces, and people maybe don’t realize it anymore because we have shots that prevent it. Hydrophobia is a symptom of later stages of rabies. Glad I’m not the only one who felt the need to say it lol

Andrea

LOL. "Oh yeah, I set the alarm."

Bryan Lund

btw- Come to San Antonio

Cassie Clark

Love the episode thank you for your work! Actually was introduced to your work through Timesuck, think he mentioned ya’ll, which Ive been listening to since it started and Im caught up on yours now!

Cassie Clark

Love

Kim Duffey

Had a BLAST seeing you guys at the State in Mpls tonight. Really great, guys. Cheers! x

Milita DeMorrow (kwiklip)

You can absolutely get tetanus from a scratch from a shrub. It's scary shit. Also: hydrophobia is an old-timey term for rabies.

Ashley W.

I am honored to have my hometown mentioned. Grand Rapids, MI 🤣🥰

Maize n Blue fan

My brain all day: “pocket Robin??” (I gave the child a ziploc bag to at least contain the bird and then sent them on their way)

Sarah Graham

Yesterday at work one of my high school students came in and asked me” Ms. G, guess what is in my pocket?” ….. “It’s a dead bird”

Sarah Graham

Listened to the episode with the wife and dog while driving the bear tooth highway in Wyoming. So glorious.

Tony Spigony Rogalette

Theme park disasters are the best!

Olivia Peterson

Right! Was waiting for it but...nope lol

Rach

You guys skimmed right by the name Morris Ablecock,

Marc Trudeau

My senior year of high school, there was a freshman that got "disfigured" playing around a fire. He and another one of his friends were in the woods one weekend camping and had a large campfire going. They decided to start spraying red spray paint into the fire to watch it flare up. His friend got the bright idea to throw the WHOLE CAN which was still half full into the fire. Naturally it exploded and splattered this kid with burning red spray paint. He came to school the next Monday with splotchy red "tattoos" all over his face, hands, arms, and neck. His parents sued the parents of the kid that threw the can into the fire in order to pay for the tattoo removal procedure to get rid of the red splotches!

Patrick Roseberry

Quicksand is an actual thing in Alaska. A guy died last year just outside of Anchorage. He was sucked in by the mud flats and drowned as the tide came in.

Hayley Clement

Another awesome show guys, thanks

Smitty

These episodes and prisoner dating game are by far my favorite!

Cody German

You never hear these names anymore. First names, sure, I get that they fall out of fashion, but where have all these crazy sounding surnames gone?

Donielle Leonardis

Someone might have already said this, but the Hydrophobic dog bite was probably referring to rabies. Once rabies sets in, the rabid animal/person becomes hydrophobic and eventually they dehydrate and die. Considering she was bitten by a dog, it wouldn't be far fetched to assume that's what it was.

Shiloh

It’s a nasty way to die. Theres video on YouTube 😱

stephanie hankins

Will we see bonus episodes of Stupid Opinions anytime soon? I’ve got a few ideas for reviews; extended stay hotels, car dealerships, tattoo shops etc

Dungberry Lipschitz

My gawd…so happy to be born in 1977 where I wasn’t constantly told my pussy stank and needed to kill things inside of it.

Jen Fred

Joseph Campau is a street in Detroit. I heard it twice and was like oh, that’s him?! Until I heard him “die” a second time. Lol

Heather

Out with their new single, "Illuminating Gas", here is Chloroform and Trap Doors!

Liz Rutherford

The half-cent was minted from 1793-1857; the final two years being minted as proofs and by private businesses, respectively. Maybe they got paid in half-cent back then?

Liz Rutherford

St Louis is still the same, just saying

Hannah Bement

LOVE THESE! Do more theme parks also!!

Dana McCall

Boomshakalaka! Bazinga! Let’s get a grand👌💨💨💨

Constantinos Tsakonas

How did they breeze past the last name Ablecock without saying a word? 🤣

Kerry McCall

Along the line of the rabies conversation- I have a bunch of old newspapers. Even in the 50's, here in Indiana, the summer issues were filled with warnings about rabies symptoms and avoiding contact with animals and rodents. Outbreaks were common. Vaccination is relatively recent.

Amy Easton

Dolly Bighead 😆😆😆

Shonna

Hydrophobia is the main clinical sign of rabies. That person died of rabies. 😬

jessrhoward

* P T O M A I N E

Sherry Hubbell

Thank you!

Amy Jeanne Jones

Old Timey Murders is one of my favorite genres of bonus episodes. This one definitely did not disappoint. 💜

Staci Bute

Ptomaine is food poisoning and it is pronounced toe main they don’t use that word anymore for food poisoning either

Paige Lovelace

Sounds like a great band. Chloroform and trap doors

Stephanie Jae

Same, but I'm gonna do it again lol

Theresa Simpson

Shouldn’t have fallen asleep listening to this 😩😆

Tommy Duggan

There's a great book by Judith Flanders, the Invention of murder. About how Victorians obsession with these kind of stories led to the invention of True Crime well worth a read both tragic but also hilarious at times.

Stephen Watts

I use to play w/matches 😳 until I left 2 books in my pocket & one didn’t have its cover. Friction from walking lit them & caught fire. Got a nice burn on my upper thigh that’s still there over 30yrs later lol

Jenny

The Macon ga murder was crazy

Mana

GREAT episode!!!! TY! ❤️

Cassie Clark

Thanks for making my town the first story!

Kip Sousley

Rabies causes Hydrophobia

Ginny

Ptomaine poisoning is old timey speak for food poisoning

Susan Nelson

So in high school I knew of two boys who almost died playing with gas. They where trying to get high off the fumes. Guess they where to close to a open flame. There was a whole school meeting to tell us this happen.

Sgt. Slaughter's Cobra

ptomane is the old timey way of saying food poisoning. They named it when they didn't know about bacteria.

Rosemarie Cawkwell

Hydrophobia, I'm pretty sure it's another way to say rabies. Maybe at the time they didn't call it that

Rick Schmitz

Came to say that. Lol

Jenn W

I wish this and Internet Salad were their own weekly shows

Ryan Schlosser

It's time for ye old timey murders! Yahhh!

Stephen Tot

I laughed harder than I should at "he was running for the ice cream truck" 😂😂

Cara Danelle
