BONUS - SMALL TOWN MURDER - 1976 PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT OF TED BUNDY

This week, James and Jimmie review the book called: 'The 1976 Psychological Assessment of Ted Bundy' by Al Carlisle, PhD.

Comments

Check out the book Growing Up With Ted Bundy!

Laura

like James, the instant he read, "women are men's equals", I burst into laughter... hilarious!

April Chiero (chair-o)

I love this take and perspective on these tests. I never heard this information before. Love you guys, absolutely love all of your shows!

Kyle Domizio

I've been looking forward to this one..YaYaYaYaYs!

Si Fyi

They have covered the M Brothers earlier this year ☺️ have a look through the catalogue 🙌🏼

Fran Hitzke

This was fascinating, hearing Ted’s answers to the psych screening tools offers a lot of insight. I don’t think Ted has DID, unless he did suffer through severe and prolonged childhood abuse. He displays behaviours associated with NPD and sociopathy which means he understands empathy by observing it, but cannot feel it himself. The psychopathic portion may certainly be a mixed personality, considering his ‘changing face’ and demeanour from moment to moment.

Fran Hitzke

I would need to hear more about Bundy's childhood to believe he's DID. I'm not aware of any extensive trauma present in his formative years to create an identity split. I am fairly certain that only the victims of violent sexual sadists see the side that is hidden from everyday encounters. The fact that they are able to compartmentalize those urges until opportunities arise does not make them DID. It's an adaptive necessity in a society that the sexual sadist lives in and must learn to manipulate in order to live out their fantasies.

HomotisRockinDumper

Nevermind I'm dumb I see it in the description lol

Occam's Razr

What is the name of the book by the psychiatrist you're quoting? I want to read soooo badly now.

Occam's Razr

I'm loving this ! Crazy is so fucking interesting. Thanks guys!

Debbie Cheli

This was fascinating, minds have always intrigued me. Ted Bundy really was one evil mf.

Maureen Cavanagh

They did discuss Sarah Boone earlier: https://www.patreon.com/posts/bonus-small-town-90108908?utm_medium=clipboard_copy&utm_source=copyLink&utm_campaign=postshare_fan&utm_content=web_share

froggy7983

Also, the netflix Jailbreak is a perfect Love During Lockup that needs to be discussed.

froggy7983

With the recent news regarding the Menendez brothers, you guys should totally do a bonus episode on them and your opinions! I guess they might get released soon too, it would be nice to have you guys catch everyone up on the case!

Hailey French

Are you guys following the Sarah Boone trial? Would love to hear you do another Patreon episode on her and this trial. Also, I know the Murdaugh murders we’re covered everywhere, but I’d love to hear you guys talk about it, and hear James make fun of how redneck they all are (I live in South Carolina, I can say that)

Patrick Sharp

This was a wild time

Lele Gant

have you guys watched Crazy Not Insane? it’s a documentary that goes into detail about DID (multiple personality disorder) and the psychiatrist it profiles worked with Bundy and diagnosed him. it’s a fascinating watch.

Eleanor Petter

Columbo had a shitty car and he was suppose to be a LT.

Stephanie Bones

Where do you live 😂😆😂

Mishell Centeno

Very interesting episode. Were we differ is you guys think we should have kept him around to study, however myself and many Canadians feel giving these disturbed individuals any type of attention gives them what they want and encourage others like him to do it.

Mishell Centeno

James, the longer you’re back in NY the more your accent is sneaking back in. ☺️

Karen Burcher

"Let's get matching Bundy coats" lmfao

Nicola H

Your descriptions but not of each other was hilarious. Lost my job, recently divorced and friend said with my rage, someone is going to get an unwarranted ass beating.

Joe the Cynic

I go down the Bundy rabbit hole every few years it seems. Really hope we get an episode about Elizabeth and her book/documentary. I read her book before it was reprinted in this weird PDF format and I could not stop reading.

Megan

Next director that does a documentary on Teddy needs to hire two similar looking actors or even brothers to both play him

Andrew Battaglini

Alright, I know we're not supposed to have a "favorite" serial killer, but I think you boys are finally on my team. 🤣🤣🤣

Le Carlblom

This is fascinating. I'm always interested in the brains of people who do horrendous things, their beliefs and motivations. But what's also interesting is the response of other people to their actions. We're so ready to 'monster' people, but they aren't monster, they're humans who do terrible things. We're also far too quick to pathologise without data.

Rosemarie Cawkwell

Which is not DID; you can't turn DID on and off, alters come through when emotional states/external events trigger them.

Rosemarie Cawkwell

Yeah, I have a close friend with DID, and he can't remember what his alters have said and done. Ted Bundy knew what he was doing and remembered details, people with DID don't.

Rosemarie Cawkwell

Maybe the old lady isn't a bitch. Maybe she just knew Ted was a monster.

Brent Fox

I actually worked for the same state agency he did at Emergency Management on Camp Murray in WA state. Not at the same time, I was years later. But creepy

Brandy Martin

"Oh hey... well HI there..." It reminds me of children's shows lol. It's so cute.

Sarah Zamenski

I was SHOCKED they didn't say something.

Sarah Zamenski

Bring on the Ted Bundy episodes- he fascinates me

Maggie79

I'm actually listening to 'Travels with my aunt' by Graham Greene on Audible at the moment. Strange to think it was one of Ted Bundys favourite books. Great episode guys. Greetings from England

pookiesusiepookie

A lot of the people expressing unease about him, even though they didn’t cite anything that would seem unusual except in retrospect, may just have gotten the creeps from him. Famously, when Rodney Alcala was on the Dating Game and won, the woman who selected him backed out of her date with him because he gave her ‘the creeps’. Sometimes it’s just a gut feeling, which is hard to describe.

Dorothy B

Yeah, I think he gave her the creeps but it was hard for her to describe why.

Dorothy B

This was really really interesting!

Iona montanaro

Amazing! Can't wait to see you guys In kc on the 18th!!

Tasha Wood

Love love love this… I watched the Ted Bundy tapes 3x… he’s my favorite deranged killer

Matt Eberhardt

I absolutely LOVE this and can't wait for part two!! My ex-husband once told me that he loved to piss me off because my eyes changed from amber to black, he's the only person that I have truly wished death upon so that's probably why he's the only one that has ever seen my eyes change color.

Lori Coble

I love this! Please keep going down the Ted rabbit hole. I find this so interesting!

Lacey McKelvey

This is on the dash, but the OS candle is up top, right?

Smalls (smallenoughtofit)

I was waiting for you to say it; so I will. Could his fear of hypodermic needles possibly have anything to do with lethal injection? 🤣🤷‍♀️🤣

Elizabeth A Calise

Hmmm interesting thought about keeping Bundy alive. He could have been another Hannibal Lector!

Debi Bailey

Exactly. Loved to hear h imself talk & thought he was the smartest guy in the room.

Nikki Mendez

Rage will kick some ass!

Nikki Mendez

Dr. Carlisle was an absolute genius who studied his fair share of fucked up humanoids. I have to disagree with J&J about keeping Bundy alive. All he would do is play cat & mouse with shrinks & law enforcement just like he executed his M.O. - by hiding in plain sight. I'm glad FL did away with him. I wasn't even the least bit angry or grossed out when The National Enquirer posted a picture of his body after Ol' Sparky was finished with him. "The Monster Is Dead" screamed the headlines - shoulda happened sooner.

Nikki Mendez

Not me, casually wearing a turtle neck while listening to this. 😂

Selena Mimranek

I’m sure someone has said it but I’ve always heard that little handle in the car the “oh shit” bar. Great episode as always fellas

Jenn Thompson

i never knew i needed this until today. i was dying when you said “get out of my dreams and into my car”🤣

Bekah Cline

B#%ch I'm driving! You shut your f$!king mouth! 🤣 Jimmie messes me up with thr redneck shit! Remind me of my childhood.

Ryan Fenton

I'm so excited for this episode! I really enjoy hearing about phycological breakdowns of serial killers

Saraya McNair

Yeasss, turkeys! So excited about this one let’s goooo 🙌🙌

Marina

We are just ignoring that “Dr Shepard” is the case that “The Fugitive” is based on? Okay.

Raymond Smith

Loved this episode. His eyes changed colour?!?! He was one scary motherfucker! But that bit towards the end when they’re both talking about guys who grow beards, get tatted up etc the respect and love these two have for each other is off the scale. Everybody needs a friend like Jimmie and Everyone needs a friend like James.

Manj Sangha

One of the tiny highlights of the bonus episodes is the way James and Jimmy just say, "Hi!" at the start ...

Joe Fitzpatrick

Precocious!

Eldergoth

Scary fucker

Zachary Leatherwood

I think the old lady clocked him as someone unnatural, but just didn’t have the words to describe him. She couldn’t understand the vibes that came off him, so everything he did became weird to her.

The Hey Eliott Podcast

So excited for Part 2!!!! This stuff is so interesting 😬🤔

Jordyn Fahey

Loved this one! So interesting and I look forward to the future additional Bundy episodes!

Abby

NEW BONNUUUSS STUUFF WOOOOO🥺🥺🥳🥳♥️ so excited hehe

Sara Degirmenci

I'm hearing so much that I never knew about this psycho. Very interesting! I understand you wishing he was around to analyze, but he was crafty and probably would've escaped to kill again. Plus, as intelligent as he was, he probably would have enjoyed the cat and mouse game of lying to see if they believed him and then telling the truth to make them doubt what he was saying.

Michelle Miller

Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee* I highly suggest that book!!! Can’t believe it was one of his favorite 😳

Katie Griffith

Point in case…video is out there…BJ Penn got drunk and wanted to be a tough guy..got slept in a parking lot lol

Travis Ares

One of the best episodes ever. Love learning about this stuff.

Cosmo's ma

🤣🤣🤣

Elizabeth Freeman

Great episode, can't wait for more!

Jeremy RunningWolf

TED TALK

Josh Nowakowski

Sorry I don’t think Ted had dissociative identity disorder which used to be called multiple personality disorder. I know one psychiatrist Dr Dianne Lewis thought there was some evidence for this based on his public denials of his guilt. But his later confessions with details about the killings, his motives and methods bely a dissociative personality disorder since he was in full possession of his memories of these events. Many other serial killers have been described as having changed eye color—darkening most reported which is probably a dilation of the pupils when in an enraged state. He was very clever about changing his appearance because he was a predator and a psychopath.

Susan Nelson

Love you guys! 💛

Sphynx

This was fascinating- please do more on Ted Bundy!

The Pudd

I honestly think my ex husband could be the next / or pass all the state tests for court like Bundy did. Psycho paths ---

Kippy Dodd

I am really excited for the continued Ted Bundy bonus episodes! It’s so fascinating. You guys could make so many bonus episodes on this freak. You guys already did a whole hour on his weird sock thing alone!

Michael Clark

Fascinating episode guys

Stephen Tot

Yes!! I look forward to more of these kind of bonus episodes. Make as many as you can/want/able to.

Endellion Hopkinton

Definitely agree that he could’ve had more than one personality. There was something he was able to turn on and off.

Cam 🛸

Bonus Bundy!

Kerry Knight

Yeeeeee!!!!!!!

Brandy Schlomann

Yesssss

Ashley

Yay finally!!! ❤️

April Criswell

Yaaaaay!!!
