Like, every person she came into contact with could hurt her HORRIFICALLY. And she's been physically weaker than probably every. single. person. she's ever met. Like, that will shape your mind and how you behave. Every person she meets is bigger, stronger, or faster than her. That's not something anyone can understand BUT her. Even the disabled adults who were cared for have an agency that she doesn't.

I also think people forget the language barrier, could you at the age of 9 remember what 9 vs 6 is in another language? I think it's more likely that the orphanage wanted to get rid of an expensive child that requires extra care and once the family stated they wanted someone around 6, told her she's 6 in English and told her to repeat that.
