As we have explained, before, we have baked-in ads with our new network.
We are in the middle of phasing those out. We do have to honor what has already been sold. Once we are through with that, we are going to go through and scrub the ads out of the episodes. We were replacing the audio file with an ad-free file. This is unrelated to the issues we were having... it's just going to make things more efficient while we wait for the baked-in ads to be phased out.
Instead, I am leaving that file/episode, and I will upload an ad-free file natively on Patreon. It will still download directly to your chosen player.
TL; DR: If you see two files, it's because one has an ad and one doesn't. We don't have that many baked-in ads, so it won't be an interruption for much longer. Listen to the shorter episode or enjoy the very gorgeous ad read.
So, you WILL SEE TWO EPISODES of episodes that have a baked-in ad. I am going to speak with our network and see how much longer we will be having those. TEMPORARY. We are not "sneaking in" ads. We just have to have the ad-free feed sync from a feed from our network. We have baked-in ads with our new network that are being phased out. It's not possible to replace the file and then resume syncing.
Any issues that you may have, please submit a support ticket with Patreon! They will help you. Thank you for your patience and understanding!

It seemed easier than submitting a ticket to Patreon, or whatever that was they suggested I do when I couldn't scan the patreon app using my landline. I don't have to like the phone, but it means I don't have to feel foolish paying Patreon to listen on Spotify. I hope you turkeys are proud of yourselves.

Also, what happened to the ad-free episodes opening on Spotify? This feature was available and one day simply disappeared entirely.

Like you, I'm able to listen to an episode here or there, but the vast majority are blocked by the QR code that pops up. I've even tried to install a QR code reader, hoping it'd help me access the episode. Maybe I did it wrong, but it made no difference. It seems like there should be a way to upload videos on Patreon without being required to have the Patreon App, which isn't possible when watching on a laptop. In any case, I know others've encountered this problem, but I think we're in the minority. I'm optimistic that once they're able to iron out other tech wrinkles, they'll be able to resolve the issue we're having. Feathers crossed!

I don't know what it is about you two stone-cold strangers that warms my heart and lifts my spirits at such a dark and forlorn time; nevertheless, you get the job done. Five paltry dollars a month for providing a life raft in a sea of grief is quite a bargain, ads be damned.

Both the ad-free episode and the one with baked in ads say (Ad-free) in the title. Not a big issue, but wanted to let you know what I've experienced if it helps you remedy the issue. Thanks guys.
