Brothels, Brawling & Baseball - Billy Martin - Part 1

This week, we start a series on one of the most colorful characters in sports history. A hard drinking brawler, who knew nothing but success in baseball. We start this tale, with Billy's dad, taking off, while he was a baby. We delve into his upbringing, just hanging around his aunt's brothel, or getting into constant fights, but at the same time, discovering baseball as a way to get out of his rough neighborhood, dead jobs that awaited him. Did we mention fighting? Because he fights a LOT!

Have your mom tell you how great her butt is, hang around at your aunt's brothel, and fight anyone who may have a sideways word for you with Billy Martin - Part 1!!

Check us out, every Tuesday!

We will continue to bring you the biggest idiots in sports history!

In 1985, my junior high, 7th grade, had "industrial arts" or IA, as we called it. Half the school year you did wood shop. The other half you did mechanical drawing. I hate both with a passion. Then in high school the board of ed decided the school needed expansion and we ended up having a few classes moved into trailers. It was either hot as Satan's taint or so cold that you'd hear guys complaining about their balls going back up inside their body. 😂

Appreciate James' disdain for the pitch clock. If one’s a baseball fan, and those 25min out of 24 hours is so vital to you, you probably have very thin margins in life which is too bad. Or, you have the attention span and patience of a 7 year old.

San Francisco looks alot like Italy.... Alot of gays?

Ruben Reveles

Huge numbers of people use New Orleans as an entryway because it was cheap to get there due to the infastructure and the fact that any ship entrying there could pick up cargo sent down the Mississippi River system to take back. New Orleans was a major Atlantic port behind London, Liverpool, and New York.

Smalls (smallenoughtofit)

This is an awesome episode as usual but probably more so because it’s local

Jean Hope

What a story... I loved it!

Crowded Crow

Have to watch banana ball, all fun no stress no drama

Cali kayak

I, too, am cursed with a “Roman nose”. 🙄🤦‍♀️

Renata

Billy Martin got me into baseball. I was trying to take an interest in the same stuff my Italian-Portuguese boyfriend liked, and while I found baseball boring, the antics of Billy Martin most definitely were not. It was reality TV before Reality TV. I never did become a huge baseball fan, but I was glad I gave it a shot, because I ended up marrying that boyfriend 36 years ago. So, thanks Billy Martin for my marriage? Life is weird!

"Pass the peas over my stolen foreskin." Damn it Jimmie.. 9 mins in and I'm dying🤣

My favorite Casey Stengel quote when asked to compare two of his players: "You see that man over there? He's only 20 and in 10 years, he has a chance to be a star. You see that other man? He's 20 too and in 10 years he has a chance to be 30."

Star Wars is amazing!

Martin Christensen

This was such a great episode, I’m going to have a hard time waiting for the next one to be posted. Thanks for the laughs!

Lisa Chamberlin

I could not give less of a shit about sports, but find this episode absolutely riveting. I recognize a ton of these names from my dad's signed baseballs. Bravo for delivering on the promise that you don't need to enjoy sports to get down with CiS, James! 😂

Jessica Ameljanczyk

All I know about Martin is that he was the guest ring announcer for the first Wrestlemania and a few weeks earlier did an interview on WWF tv which Gene Okerlund claims Martin was incredibly drunk for and had to be handheld like a wrestler on his first promo.

Stephen Watts

Wow James did a perfect Dan Dority impression, that was spot on! I ❤️ Dan so much.

Mike TV

As a huge baseball fan I love the pitch clock. 25 minutes less per game of adjusting batting gloves and throwing over to first base. I have to get to work in the morning.

Dave i need tickets for Tarrytown Graziano

Will wait impatiently for part 2 ♥️♥️♥️♥️

Kim Ritter

Same. Lot of things he says he loves but "can't" watch anymore

Andrew Exline

Yeah, James’ distaste for the pitch clock is one of his worst takes.

Peter Melling

Throughout the 80s baseball games were less than 2:40. In the 90s they shot up because of television, and they continued to get longer and longer. The only thing the pitch clock has done is bring the length of games back to what they were in the 80s. James take that it was better when it took longer is not just old man shouting at clouds, it's based on no actual facts. When the game goes faster you have to pay attention, instead of checking out while a batter adjust his gloves after every pitch.

Andrew Exline

As a non American knew nothing about baseball or Billy. But can’t wait pt. 2.

Monika

It's Mike Birbiglia and that joke is hilarious. He is a good comic.

Kala Stroh

So fun fact for next week show Boys… the PHX dog track had three partners. The silent 2% owner was Bugsy Siegel through his associate Gus Greenbaum. My grandfather formed the AZ racing commission and loved telling that story later in his life. They knew it but couldn’t prove it before Siegels death.

Johnny K

I have a cousin named Dagoberto. Everyone calls him Dago. But we're Dominican 🇩🇴 so yeah 🤷

Maritzad123

My dad's Costa Rican and is the oldest of 8. NONE of the siblings regularly go by their given names, but their nicknames don't seem to have any connection to their actual names... My dad's name is Carlos, but his nickname is Tai (tie). 🤷‍♀️

Erika Fultz

Portuguese Hawaiian isn’t very uncommon, my family is. Indentured servants came from Portugal to work the plantations in Hawaii in the mid to late 1800s

Summer Montera

I have been waiting 8 years for this! So stoked!

Benjamin Fleming

This made me so nostalgic for my brother- huge baseball fan. Been to the Baseball Hall of Fame many times. Thanks James and Jimmie. Your show is my salvation! 😘😘😘

Kathy Z

I assume you still have that hat?

Dorothyann

I’d like to know what sport James enjoys watching. 🙂

Dorothyann

Good episode 5 Stars James and Jimmie

Ryan Oakes

I've been waiting for the Billy episode. Billy was friends with my grandmother back in the day. I'll never forget meeting him at 10 years old. I asked him for an autograph and he took his Yankees cap off and put it on my head. Such a cool experience.

Michael Weeks

Been hoping for this one ever since I read the Bill Pennington book.

Sam Stegemann

I love the series episodes so much!!!!

Cheri Humphrey

😂 it took me 20 something yrs before I found out dago was a slur. My gparents neighbor was called Dago. Got me curious if that was his actual name.

Daniel Peters

I've been waiting for this one!!

Kathy Z

I have been waiting so long for this! As a Yankees fan and just a baseball fan in general, Billy Martin is such an interesting character. I know James is going to make this super entertaining. I hope it lasts longer than the Evel Knievel series!

Donnie King

This is going to be epic, James does such an amazing job putting these multiple part episodes together and the research they put into them is really detailed.

Jeff Stanton II

YESSSSSS!!! SO EXCITED FOR THIS!!!

Jeanie Robertson

Reggie Jackson would disagree 😆

Brendan Ables

Extra love for the baseball episodes!

Brendan Ables
