You were spot on about sports. Everyone made the team because we needed bodies. Our town only had 2 cops and one of them would give athletes breaks/warnings as an extra incentive. Plus if you were actually good it wasn't too hard to stand out.

As a teacher, I know rates have risen exponentially with the hyper-fixation on appearance driven by social media, and with the isolation created by the pandemic. The numbers are higher in rural areas and high-poverty communities. The youngest student I had who died by suicide was in sixth grade. Itās absolutely heartbreaking, and this womanās behavior is tantamount to playing Russian roulette with her daughterās life. I hope the daughter gets the help she will need for years to come. First, I don't believe she was sexually assaulted (she may have been, but it's more likely that she's taken pieces of other people's stories); it tracks with her MO that she would use something like that, a societal boundary, to manipulate people after she's caught. I also think she had a crush on Owen and has pedophilic tendencies -- but not because she, as an adult woman, is attracted to kids. I think it was specifically Owen because she didn't just identify with Lauren. I think she thought she WAS Lauren. Like, that's why she went to all the games and did all the PTA and bake sales and all that. And that's why she didn't start messaging Lauren until around 2 years into the relationship -- because that's around the time Lauren and Owen would want to do things themselves and Kendra isn't a part of it anymore. It was about control but also about being Lauren. Subsuming her. So the attraction to Owen was born out of that. I don't think she had to learn teen speak, I think she never grew up. She's a baby woman. Like that adult who pretended to be a teen bc she loved high school. Texting her daughter all that sexual content and introducing her to that world bothers me almost as much as pushing her to kill herself. It's tantamount to sexually violating her. By my sophomore year she was pretty checked out on interest in my life and general parenting. That said, when there was drama between me and others she was ALL IN. Obsessing over every detail, telling me what to say. Always wanting to add fuel to the fire rather than helping me ignore, solve or deescalate. I am a fan of the "stuck" theory. While my experience is minor, it was always pretty obvious to me that my mom wanted to return to that period of her own life. Adulthood wasn't very kind to her, I think she felt the safest and most full in highschool. I think this mom also did absolutely have a thing for the boyfriend. Going to his games after the breakup alone is alllll kinds of weird. She should have absolutely been labeled a sex offender.

The way some moms pass on their eating disorders or pick on their daughters style choices or habits in the name of āhelpingā but they really are their daughterās biggest bullyā¦ the entire time this doc just gave me a vibe of that but virtual. I wasnāt terribly surprised it was Kendra honestly. Also I do think she had a weird thing for the boyfriend, like she truly was living as a teenage girl bully in her head. How deep she went in letting her life blow up because this was more important for her surprised me though.

Sorry to be that person but to highlight the assholity of Khloeās parents I just wanna make a quick correction that at the end of the doc they act all smug talking about how Shawn and Lauryn* (the daughter, not Kendra the mom) are playing victim in all this Kendra made her daughterās life a living hell and brought her husbandās reality crumbling to the ground. When Khloeās parents implied the whole family was in on it I couldnāt help saying āoh, FUCK youā despite watching alone and sharing thin walls with my neighbors. Such massive losers.
