BONUS - SMALL TOWN MURDER - TED BUNDY'S PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT PART 2

Would you take a look at the length of that title? Very succinct!

This week, James and Jimmie continue with part 2 of Ted Bundy's psychological assessment from 1976 by Dr. Al Carlisle, PhD.

(It's a book and audiobook, too!)

Comments

Jimmie could write a beautiful novel if he'd loose the "fucks". The snow puzzle clicking in place without thought was amazing!

Cheryl Moore

GD, that was cool, not the murders obviously, but the show.

IceLander2733

Jimmie’s mind is so interesting haha I love hearing his thoughts

Lauren Coulter

That sounds like you may need to look at your settings. I believe you can turn that setting off.

Jason Allen

In the 70s, @ Lloyd’s center in Portland, my girlfriend was the only car in the parking garage. She noticed a man hanging around when she got there earlier, thought nothing of it. As she left, only a couple cars there after close, she hears footsteps and a man’s voice asking for help. He actually grabbed her long hair but she was a big tough girl and fought back, got in her car, locked up, took off. Flash forward some time, she sees a picture of Ted Bundy and freaks out. It was the man who attacked her. She always tried to figure out when it was to see if he had success that night with someone else. Can you imagine?

Liza

Mr. Bundy is fearful of being hurt by women? Yeah, lots of guys are afraid of being emotionally hurt. Most women are afraid of being physically hurt by men. So a month or two of tears for Ted or death forever by Ted?

Travis WTAF

It was Your Stupid Opinions, Oct 14th, Magic Johnson's Shame.

Travis WTAF

I think Bundy talks about Europe as a way to show people how smart & cultured he is.

Lori Ferguson

Quick question, is there a way to re-listen to past episodes on patreon? Mine dissappear when i listen to them.

Rancidmynd 69

Score! I’m the 420th like for this episode.

Kristin Schmidt

jimmie! you are spot on with the analysis of bundy watching a boat in the river seine which is passing him by ... (delivery groceries or whavev. I (sadly) found this out in dream analysis for myself. WATER is the symbol of LIFE; sad for me ... because i wasn't on the boat (of life.)

Nancy

OKAY! Hello!

House Arrest Brian

Wow!

Heithem El-Hodiri

The "weakness" bit at the grave thing for me is SO TELLING. Certain manifestations of antisocial traits will use anything to their advantage and assume everyone else is. Because of this, ANYTHING that is real and uncontrolled is weak because it can be used by others to their advantage. It's not weak in a masculinity sense. It's weak in that it's a display of even the slightest hint of vulnerability

3 ninjas kicked ass

Andrew Roberts

Retired child psychologist here. The Thematic Apperception Test was developed in the 1930s. The only time I ever had to use it for real was in one of my many part-time jobs in graduate school in 1980s Chicago. I had to test people newly released from prison to help determine how best to help them be successful. I saw everyone from murders to drug dealers. I have never seen anything like Ted's responses.

Sloane H

When I was having a mental health drop a few years ago, I literally fell asleep to them for a few weeks (mostly the more chill CIS episodes)

??

Crime in Sports and Small Town Murder

Unsubing. I hope that yall didn't have a hand in the wondery scam

Caleb Parker

So funny the guys said it's either a serial killer or a comedian. I was listening to the first Ted Bundy show and was thinking, there should a show that people have to guess is it a famous person or a serial killer 🤔

Sumyr Colangelo Keating

NOW I completely understand Jimmie’s intense hatred of NM 😂

Morgan Mclain

I don't think I could avoid coming up with the most outrageous stories. My goal would be to make the psychiatrist as uncomfortable as possible.

Jenny Murphy

I can listen to the two of you talk about anything. The combination of your voices, banter and personalities make even the most unhinged content relaxing and enjoyable. Maaayyybe I should get my head checked. 💚🙃

Krystal Hope

Oh yea, probably. Party lines were a big thing in the 60s &70s

Natalie Meyers

Wonder if the prosecutor during court would’ve said something like “Bundy was the 4th best serial killer” it would’ve sent him off not being the best and failed

Joe the Cynic

Loved the kc show "Uppity Crigger" lol My black friend died in his seat . Please come back next year.

Nash essman

Nope, that's scumbag behavior and our boys don't do that.

Kris Maslonka

when cause i didn’t catch that part 😅

LaurAnne Luthi

This is random but idk which episode you guys talked about cinema that smells like urine. And you said that “the only thing that smells like urine is urine” and now I think about it every time I am on the bus 🥲 (I am a poor grad student)

Fatimah k

If James isn't victim shaming poor girls in Idaho then he's disrespecting actors.

Brent Fox

believe they did one if its the guy who wrote a book about his dad being the zodiac

biggidy2555

I can't believe James moved back to New York! He finally said it in the latest episode of YSO.

Valkyrie Melancon

I need a patron of the this is the zodiac speaking doc!!! I have to know what you guys think!!!

Joshua Baker

This is so interesting and I would love to hear more about him.

Brandy Martin

Right?? I don’t even care that title was taken from the Judge’s sentencing, “Sinister Gentleman” far excels. What a lost opportunity!

Maggie79

Just keep it going guys- this is so fascinating! I have also read every freaking book and watched every doc, but I love hearing your take!

Maggie79

I think those douchebag kids that filmed themselves killing their classmate Cassie said it was Bundy who said the head on a stick thing - I remember listening to the episode and yelled "That was Kemper you poser fucks!!" I still don't understand why they got it wrong in American Psycho.

Gianna DeLuca

Ed Gein. Many have quoted it.

Karen Maguire

American Psycho: Patrick Bateman: "Do you know what Ed Gein said about women? When I see a pretty girl walking down the street, I think two things. One part wants me to take her out, talk to her, be real nice and sweet and treat her right." David Van Patten: And what did the other part think? Patrick Bateman: "What her head would look like on a stick... "

Karen Maguire

Right

Martha Parker

Ed kemper said it

MARC WHITE

I mean. He's not wrong

Lesley Zen Marx

I love how whenever the guys talk about nature, James pipes up with how great it is to get stoned in that environment... "I love to [sit on the beach/ walk in the woods/ go out and stand in the snow] and smoke a joint, that's the best thing ever" 😂

Lesley Zen Marx

Ed Kemper said the head on a stick thing.

Michelle Hatfield

You're talking about the baggie full of Vaseline, aren't you? 😂

Lesley Zen Marx

An excellent episode. Thank you so much.

Maureen Wilson

That’s because it was Ed Kemper who said that. One side of me says, "I'd like to talk to her, date her." The other side of me says, "I wonder how her head would look on a stick?"

PeakSeeker

“It’s Christmas for Christ’s sake!”

Cher Strong (#localweedia)

Necro-dipped 🤣

Nicola H

Imagine naming a Ted Bundy movie "Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile" when "Sinister Gentleman" is right there.

Nicola H

Would love to see you guys do a bonus episode on Israel Keyes if you haven’t already? Psychologically, he was a fascinating dude

Allie K

Jimmy’s snow storm puzzle was beautiful!

MG

They proved through DNA that Bundy's father was not his grandfather.

Rebecca

🥰 Yaaay! I’ve been looking forward to this

Dixin Hanns

Jimmie can be quite poetic when he wants to be.

Rosemarie Cawkwell

Jimmie’s description of hearing snow falling was perfect

Kip Sousley

What I heard the most in all of Ted’s interpretations is his voyeurism . Ted had a cultivated mask of sanity that was always in danger of slipping—ie he had to send his brother away.

Susan Nelson

Agreed

Rowdy Hurst

I really enjoyed these Ted Bundy podcasts. I imagine it is hard coming up with new material all the time, despite no shortage of crazy out there. Falling back to things like this for the various notorious serial killers could be the best fall back plan ever.

Rowdy Hurst

Another thing: in general, I actually liked J & J's interpretations of the pictures more than the docter's.

Judy Cronje

When Jimmie talked about keeping the head on the mantle, my first thought was Ed Kemper... He also used to "do things" with severed heads...

Judy Cronje

Love your thoughts and the angles you provide on Bundy and all criminals. Jimmy had some great ideas. These two eps have been really good to listen to.

Bonnie Sykes

It never dawned on me til this second that Ted was taking his freshly necro-dipped dick back to Liz. Omg I hope he bathed yikes

Wryslok

I like the rationale that the doctor used - he’s either perfect or horrendous and since he lies so good that I can’t tell, he should stay put.

Cam 🛸

I just realized I can comment on these

Sawyer Pignona

Do you think he had a shared phone line with the nosey old lady, and that’s what she meant by he was always on the phone when you wouldn’t expect it? Like he was on the phone line when she was on the phone listening in? Anyway he was a scary psychopath and I enjoyed your research and the episodes very interesting!

Natalie Connolly

It was so fun watching home alone as. Kid and asking how does this fucker get so lucky

Josh Nowakowski

Yay!!!! More bonus episodes!! Love you guys!

Sarah Hixon

Yesssss 🧐

Jordyn Fahey

Yay!! I'm excited to hear more . You guys are Great!
