I haven't seen the documentary because my sister revoked my Netflix privileges when she moved out, but it sounds dull! Although the case itself sounds bizarrely entertaining. A pubescent kid who's probably being bullied/abused and doing normal almost teenager stuff to get attention/dealing with trauma, a drunk for a future brother in law, and a couple of grifters, is a potent combination. Add to that a religious family and a cultural environment that actually believes in devils and demons, or at least proclaims that they do, along with paranoia, and you get a dangerous mix. The Satanic Panic is another example of this same phenomena. James and Jimmie always have some brilliant takes on this stuff. I loved the conversation about who's worse, grifters or child abusers. I find the Warrens reprehensible and disgusting. It's a shame they never got their just desserts in life, and that their daughter is continuing the grift. Thanks for your work guys, and to the team that keeps you going in the background.

Eventually, someone pulled her out of the fire, but she was already burnt so badly she died. It was like a group hallucination, caused by a drunk man convinced his wife had run off with the fairies. I have been meaning to comment on how your show has helped me get through some of the worst events of my entire life over the last 3 years. Seriously. I searched for comedic podcasts to take my mind off things because I desperately needed a good distraction but I couldn’t find any podcast that “worked” for me until I came across yours. I have the same dark sense of humor and attitudes and it was amazingly funny and interesting to me. I’d just play a show when I was really down or heading down to take me out of it. And some times my mood has been very very dark, suicidal (but I never wanted to kill myself - I just couldn’t find any coping skills that actually worked when I was that bad). They stayed about 30-40 days and said there was all kinds of demonic activity that forced them out. The Warrens were brought in and there was a book deal that made the story famous. They later came clean and said it was a hoax. The Defao family was the mass murder. The son killed his entire family.

Which in one infamous incident in the Late 1800s led to a man setting his wife on fire killing her because he thought she had been replaced. Also Protestants do a form of exorcism, my dad was a member of the church of Ireland clergy and a guy he trained with was the church of Irelands chief exorcist far less invasive mostly prayers, blessings and moving any small items that could be affected to consecrated ground.

I admire your commitment to not taking yourselves too seriously. However, I just want to say that it may seem like what you do doesn't necessarily "matter", it does bring humor and a level of comfort to many, myself included. This was especially true during a particularly difficult time in my life. I desperately needed the laughter and escapism, yet I couldn't stomach almost any content during that period as I was feeling even more jaded and cynical than usual. A sincere thank you for always being genuine, and thus, palatable.

The following week they load and play for free for everyone. As for the “bonus” button below all the episodes, it’s advertising that if you pay for Wondery you can listen without ads. They haven’t taken away anything, nothing was ever “lost”, its more like they recorded a couple podcasts ahead of time and you can either pay for early access or listen free next week. I’ve listened for many years and I can tell you they never backtracked. It’s more like got all the way caught up and now you want to listen to next week when it hasn’t dropped yet.
