Chapter 680: The Three Undead

However, the Soul Monitor didn’t display an image of Lin Qian, but rather a visual description. The images depicted the eerie events involving the undead, as well as the classification system that the Hua Xia Empire had developed for them.

The undead were categorized into three types: skeletal corpses, rotting corpses, and intact corpses.

The skeletal corpses, or "bone corpses," mostly ranged in strength from the basic three realms to the Nirvana Realm. Occasionally, some reached the Void Breaking Realm, but they were extremely rare.

The "rotting corpses" were more powerful, with the weakest among them at least in the Nirvana Realm, while many reached the Void Breaking Realm. The strongest of these were at the Soaring Void level, just below the Life and Death Realm.

The "intact corpses" were even more formidable, with the weakest being in the Life and Death Realm, and some even reaching the Saint Realm.

These intact corpses were notable figures from the ancient war, now resurrected as undead. Recognized as once-powerful martial practitioners, they had played pivotal roles in the war, and their appearances were easily identified.

After this classification was revealed, Lin Qian’s decree was made public. He ordered that whenever anyone encountered one of these three types of undead, they should assess the threat carefully based on the type and strength of the enemy. If they encountered a danger beyond their capability to handle, they must immediately contact the nearest Imperial Army or Beast Army for assistance and not risk their lives needlessly.

The Soul Martial Continent had plunged into chaos, with the stench of blood lingering in the air from the widespread undead. Yet, after the initial turmoil, the chaos began to settle somewhat.

The undead armies had initially rampaged through the land, killing indiscriminately. But after a period of slaughter, they stopped their frenzy and began to gather in one place.

Moreover, as the initial panic subsided, the martial practitioners of the Soul Martial Continent started to calm down and fight back. Although they were still on the losing side, they had regained some strength, no longer utterly defenseless.

As a result, the killings had slowed down considerably.

Still, tension lingered in everyone’s hearts. The gathering of the undead armies suggested that they might be preparing for another assault soon, and when that time came, it would require even greater caution.

What alarmed everyone even more was that the behavior of these undead armies wasn’t mindless. It was clear that there was some intelligence guiding them.

What they didn’t know was that the undead were not acting on their own but were being controlled by someone behind the scenes.

In the void outside the Soul Martial Continent, the Black Demon’s mind was connected to the array, commanding his undead army to gather. The sudden, unexpected onslaught had caught his enemies off guard, but he knew that wouldn’t work again.

Now, he needed to carefully plan his next move. After gathering the undead army, he would orchestrate their attacks with precision.

Only by doing so could he collect enough death energy in the shortest time possible to complete his plan.

“Huh?” At that moment, the Black Demon noticed something unusual. Until now, he had been focusing on the accumulation of death energy and hadn’t paid close attention to the undead’s battles, allowing them to act on their own.

But now, as he took control of the situation, he immediately noticed a problem. In the Southern Region of the Soul Martial Continent, his undead army—resurrected by the Death Sacrifice Rebirth—had already been mostly wiped out, and the remaining forces were quickly diminishing.

Moreover, the death energy in the sky above that area was significantly thinner, indicating that very few people had died there.

Not only that, but the Black Demon also found that in the Eastern Continent, across the Northern, Eastern, Western, and Central Regions, many of his undead had been heavily defeated, contributing very little death energy.

This strange situation piqued the Black Demon’s interest. He began to investigate his undead army through the array.

When he discovered the truth, his expression darkened. With a furious growl, he said, “Hua Xia Empire! It’s that Hua Xia Empire again, and Lin Qian! He’s truly a thorn in my side.”

The Black Demon scowled, his earlier lightheartedness replaced with a more serious demeanor.

He had underestimated Lin Qian and his Hua Xia Empire, never expecting them to possess such strength—enough to defeat his undead army.

Although his undead army on the Soul Martial Continent wasn’t at full strength without his direct augmentation, it still spoke volumes about Lin Qian and the empire’s power, proving them capable adversaries.

“How interesting. Truly interesting. I can’t wait to meet him in person,” the Black Demon mused as he closed his eyes once more.

In the next moment, the people of the Soul Martial Continent were shocked to see a sudden change in the sky. The dark energy above began to shift, gradually forming into a massive face.

Though the face was blurry, its enormous size instilled fear in all who saw it.

Everyone across the Soul Martial Continent stared in disbelief at the face in the sky.

“Lin Qian, I must admit, I’m impressed by you. Of all the places on the Soul Martial Continent, only your empire remains untouched and unscathed. The areas protected by your army have suffered almost no casualties.”

“Clearly, you and your empire are the greatest obstacle to my plans.”

The enormous black face in the sky spoke directly, addressing Lin Qian by name.

The Black Demon’s straightforwardness caught Lin Qian off guard for a moment. Then, his expression settled into calm understanding.

It was clear now that, as Lin Qian had suspected, the Black Demon was the mastermind behind everything.

What an audacious move!

Lin Qian couldn’t help but marvel, while growing increasingly curious as to what it was about the Soul Martial Continent that made it worth the Black Demon’s massive efforts.

At this point, everyone on the Soul Martial Continent now knew two things:

First, the mastermind behind everything was the enormous black face in the sky.

Second, the Hua Xia Empire was incredibly powerful, remaining completely unharmed despite the chaos.

“Lin Qian, I must admit, you are worthy of being my adversary,” the Black Demon continued, his face showing a hint of admiration. “What do you say?”

“Is that so?” Lin Qian replied calmly. His voice, carried by the death energy, echoed across the entire Soul Martial Continent. He made no attempt to hide it, allowing his words to be transmitted by the dark energy.

“But if you wish to be my opponent, you are not qualified.”
