Chapter 699: The Emperor’s Wrath

As he spoke, Lin Qian glanced at the fire tree and remembered that this Soul Martial Continent was, in fact, a fragment of the celestial Xuan Yan Star.
It was clear that Fire Xuan Yan’s name was derived from a combination of these two.
Having been acknowledged as Fire Xuan Yan's master, Lin Qian suddenly became aware of many things, as if all the knowledge she possessed had been transferred to him.
For instance, every Earth Spirit had a physical form, and for Fire Xuan Yan, that form was the fire tree.
If someone wanted to devour Fire Xuan Yan, it wouldn’t be by swallowing her whole but by refining the fire tree into a pill and consuming it.
Of course, Lin Qian would never do such a thing. Fire Xuan Yan had placed her trust in him, which was why she had acknowledged him as her master. He couldn’t bring himself to betray that trust by devouring her.
Besides, Lin Qian knew that Fire Xuan Yan’s continued existence would be far more beneficial to the Huaxia Empire.
"Master, now that the situation on the Soul Martial Continent is..." Fire Xuan Yan started to say something but then suddenly smiled, as if realizing something. "Ah, I almost forgot—Master, you should already be able to see everything happening on the Soul Martial Continent."
Indeed, now that Lin Qian had become the master of the Earth Spirit, Fire Xuan Yan, he found that he could do many things with ease.
For instance, he no longer needed scouting beasts like Swift Wind and Night Shadow to gather information on the continent. With just a thought, he could know everything happening on the Soul Martial Continent.
At that moment, Lin Qian noticed something strange about the Black Demon’s actions—they seemed erratic and reckless, as if driven by desperation.
"How long have I been cultivating?" Lin Qian asked as he observed the current state of the continent.
Fire Xuan Yan quickly replied, "Master, it’s been five full years."
"Five years... so much has happened in that time," Lin Qian said, feeling a bit wistful.
As he continued to observe, he realized just how dire the situation had become on the Soul Martial Continent, especially on the Western Continent, which was now in a devastating state. Even the seas were stained with blood, the water turned red from the slaughter.
Although the Huaxia Empire had managed to hold out, Lin Qian knew they wouldn’t be able to sustain much longer. He noticed that within the undead army, a significant number of Saint-level zombies had begun to stir and were dispersing, likely preparing for a large-scale massacre.
What puzzled Lin Qian, though, was that the forces he had left behind for the Huaxia Empire didn’t seem strong enough to have held out this long.
It wasn’t until he saw the strategic arrangements made by Ye Xin that he realized why: she had employed a strategy known as "Turtle Defense."
"Prime Minister, was it you who taught her this tactic?" Lin Qian asked in surprise, immediately reaching out to Zhuge Ming.
Zhuge Ming chuckled bitterly and responded, "Your Majesty, I never taught the Empress this strategy. Ever since you were isolated within the core of the Soul Martial Continent, we lost contact with you. The Ministry of Engineering couldn’t reach you, let alone teach the Empress such tactics."
"But I must say, Her Majesty is incredibly clever. She came up with this on her own. Given your absence, 'Turtle Defense' was the best strategy available."
Lin Qian nodded in acknowledgment but couldn't help smiling wryly. Back in his previous life, female gamers often despised the "Turtle Defense" strategy simply because of its unflattering name.
Yet here was his wife, unhesitatingly adopting this very tactic.
Still, Lin Qian was grateful that Ye Xin had chosen this strategy. Without it, the Empire might not have lasted this long.
Had he not come out of seclusion in time, the consequences would have been disastrous.
"Hmm?" Just then, Lin Qian noticed something unusual.
With the battle worsening, Ye Xin had personally taken to the battlefield to inspire morale.
The battleground she had chosen was in the northern part of Xinghai Prefecture, near the southeastern edge of the Chaos Wasteland, bordering the Northern Region.
It was a chaotic battleground, where the races of the Western Continent had crossed the sea and joined forces with the soul martial warriors of the Northern Region, along with the Imperial Army and the Beast Army.
Among them, Yuan Zhizun and Zhao Long were also present, staying close to protect Ye Xin at all costs.
Both of them knew all too well that if anything happened to Ye Xin, the wrath of Lin Qian upon his return would be more than they could bear.
However, at that moment, ten Saint-level zombies suddenly emerged from the undead army, rampaging toward them, slaughtering everything in their path.
In the blink of an eye, their wake was littered with death and destruction, leaving everyone on the battlefield in a state of shock.
"How can there be so many Saint-level zombies?"
"Ten Saint-level zombies? We’re doomed!"
"They’re targeting the Empress! Stop them!"
Panic-stricken, the soldiers realized the zombies' objective and rushed to form a protective barrier around Ye Xin, knowing full well that her death would spell disaster.
However, their speed was no match for the Saint-level zombies.
In the blink of an eye, the zombies had breached their lines.
"Empress, run! We’ll hold them off!" Zhao Long’s face twisted in horror as he shouted at Ye Xin. Brandishing his mighty Tai Long Spear, he charged toward four of the zombies, his entire body igniting with a fiery red aura.
"Unmatched!"
With his power fully unleashed, Zhao Long managed to hold off four of the Saint-level zombies singlehandedly. Unbeknownst to him, his strength was rapidly growing, a result of his bond as a growth-type general, with his strength directly linked to Lin Qian’s.
On the other side, Yuan Zhizun, known as the strongest human warrior, unleashed his full potential, fending off six Saint-level zombies. However, he knew he couldn’t hold out for long.
Boom!
Suddenly, the ground beneath them cracked open, and another Saint-level zombie burst forth. Judging by its appearance, it had once been a member of the Western Continent’s races, with a sharp horn on its forehead, charging straight at Ye Xin.
Whoosh!
In an instant, Ye Xin was pulled into someone’s embrace, narrowly avoiding the killing blow from the zombie.
The figure holding Ye Xin wore a cold expression, his voice ringing out in fury.
"Get lost!"
With the Emperor’s wrath, the world itself seemed to change.
The commanding voice carried an overwhelming pressure that sent the Saint-level zombie and the ten others clashing with Yuan Zhizun and Zhao Long flying back.
A single shout had forced back eleven Saint-level zombies, leaving the battlefield stunned.
