I didn't know all that about Tiny Tim, he does sound like a very interesting guy. I understand Tiny Tim and Nick Lucas actually became friends, which is pretty cool. Nick did have a pretty high-pitched voice himself. Have you ever seen Nick Lucas's performance of "Tiptoe Through the Tulips" from the early Technicolor musical comedy 'Gold Diggers of Broadway' from 1929? Most of the film is considered lost, the first 8 reels, but the last 2 reels minus the final minute of the film survive and thankfully Nick's performance of the song is in the part of the film that's survived. As a matter of fact, someone uploaded a good quality video of Nick's performance to YouTube just 3 weeks ago. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-MPTrWJ1uM Due to this conversation we've been carrying on, I've been looking more into some of the singers you mentioned along the way that I didn't already own stuff by, and so this morning I bought a Richard Crooks CD. I really shouldn't have spent the money, lol, but it was the particular CD I wanted and at a very good price. So thanks for the inspiration, Tom. πŸ‘

Fascinating stuff! I knew that Rick Nelson's sons were rockers, and had some success in the late '80's and early '90's but didn't know the other details you shared. Incredible how your relatives dated rock and roll singers! That's pretty cool! When I first heard Nick Lucas's original of "Tip Toe" I was surprised that his voice was somewhat similar to Tim's falsetto. Tiny Tim had a whole lot of recordings, and he often used a deep voice instead of the high one. You can check out his performance of "Earth Angel" on Ed Sullivan for a sample of that. Tiny Tim was once in the Book of World Records for continuous singing. He set the record at Luna Park in Australia and there is a fascinating documentary about it called "Street of Dreams". The entire concert is also posted (or was when I watched it) on Dailymotion and the documentary was on YouTube. He knew an incredible amount of old songs from the early 1900's and sings one after another with a great band. I really love to watch interviews with Tiny, (and there are an amazing number on YouTube), because he often talks about the early stars of the recording industry, and has fascinating and unusual viewpoints in general. He was quite a unique personality!

Hey Tom. Believe it or not, some people still like & collect LaserDiscs and Pioneer was still producing LaserDisc players well into the DVD era up until 2009 (though I believe the final LaserDiscs were produced in 2001).

Is that a Laserdisc you have there? I haven't heard about those in years. I've never owned one. Do you have a Laserdisc player? I didn't know if anyone still had those!
