It’s simply the Democratic Party bending the knee to the ruling class that writes their checks. It comes off as spineless because it goes against many of their stated beliefs, but that’s just what liberals are. A mask of progressive words over a Fascist core. The USA ruling class recognizes the empire is beginning to decline, and they want Fascism in place to use the big military they’ve maintained to try to cling to their hegemony. A few oligarchs aren’t completely convinced that now is the time to go completely Fascist, but more are hopping on board (look at the rising popularity of Trump among tech billionaires). Republicans and Democrats are a reflection of the politics of the ruling class, not the people of the USA. It’s always been that way, but the legal bribery that became the backbone of the USA political system was the last nail in the coffin.

Then the professor busted one out and proceeded to play an angelic and mesmerizing baroque piece on it and explained that he’s a professional recorder player in a Bach ensemble and that it’s a real classical instrument.
