This season is frustrating, but the thing is that their own minds are turning on them, trying to prevent them from remembering. So even though *logically* it makes sense that all these clues would point to someone important to them being taken, their minds are working overtime trying to convince them that’s not the case. What’s interesting about this is that Lydia is the one to keep pushing. You can read that in a “shippy”/romantic way, and I think that’s there to a certain extent, but she’s also just more attuned to her gut instincts at this point. She’s had to learn to push aside her own skepticism and others’ cynicism for years, and to listen to that part of her mind that FEELS irrational. Basically, the way I see it, it’s like everyone has a voice in their head saying “no, that’s crazy” whenever they try to piece things together about their missing people. And Lydia is the person who is the best at dealing with that psychological nonsense at this point, because that’s what she’s been going through for years.
