Pokemon Journey Episode 172-173

Time for the end-of-month marathon! Still working on, you know, NOT doing these, but at least the scripts were done early this time which was still a big help. One day, the ultimate dream of a patreon backlog so I can take vacation time!

Enough of that though, here's your monthly dose of wobbuffet!

Simple: it was funny.

The rock seesaw was the only interesting thing, nice callback to St Anne even if unintentional

Exactly. It’s honestly baffling the villagers and especially Jenny here didn’t know this. If they attack in self defense with counter, it doesn’t break their code of pacifism.

10:12 yeah lol but at least you can tell it in Wobbufett’s voice that he’s upset

Ive seen this reoccurring theme of stars and ladybugs in other media, and I'm not sure where it originates. The only thing I can think of is that there is a Folk legend that if you find a ladybug with more then 7 dots, its an omen of a famine. -This likely originates as someone identifying ladybugs, vs a type of beetle. I'm thinking It might be the same idea? If you can connect the dots and it makes a star like shape, its a ladybug.

The scene with TR, Pikachu and Togepi balancing on the rock is just ingrained into my memory, so it's fascinating to find out how flat the rest was. I wonder why it stuck so much.

Isn't Ledian's design based on a character from an earlier Game Freak game? I can't recall the character's name, but I think they were also the inspiration for Volt Tackle.

In regards to the Wobbuffet episode, there's another bit they clearly overlooked: Wobbuffets only attack in self-defense. I know that sounds odd, but bear with me. See, if Wobbuffet are so peaceful that they only attack when being attacked, then it's clearly only in self-defense, Ergo, that means you technically could attack back with Counter and not violate the rules. You'd think a village obsessed with the blue comedian version of c'est' la vie would understand this.
