2022-01-04 16:23:37 +0000 UTCIn some magazine I read that in Japan all fruits are always peeled when served. We see that with apples here, but they'll also peel individual grapes. This is a cool little cultural detail when you consider peeled apple slices are something we reserve for kids in the west, and an adult would just eat an apple with the skin on.

Best I can think of is wild berries that will give you a stomachache? But I dunno much about wild berries, much less the ones in japan.

The word that in Modern Hebrew means "Apple" appears once in Song of Songs, and a few times in Joshua, but those occurrences all seem to refer to a tree rather than a fruit, so I discounted them (as it is not clear if that the usage refers even to an *apple* tree).

The only other times that a specific fruit is referenced are the Fruit of the Tree of Knowledge, Good and Bad (what that fruit is, if it is any actual fruit, is left unsaid ), and the "fruit of a majestic tree" in reference to the Four Species of Sukkot (which is *traditionally* understood to be the etrog). I'm probably gonna have to spend a ridiculous amount of time researching why. :)
