When Misty said "You and I will be married some day too" I'm pretty sure she didn't mean that they'd be married to each other per say but would just in general be married. Based on Ash's reaction, he seems to have misunderstood that as being married to each other. This misunderstanding also explains Misty's lack of reaction to Ash's reaction, since in her head she hasn't implied anything major.

2023-09-27 15:15:06 +0000 UTC...aaand the Johto filler "desert" gradually begins to recede as the writing staff increasingly begin to open to the possibility of both writing more Misty and Brock-centric episodes and infusing them with more specific character interactions and comic energy than the show's consistently wielded since (arguably) the end of the Orange Islands, although the plotting here nonetheless remains considerably shakier than the heights of Kanto. It's still a lengthy road before the show manages to fully shake off its post-Shudo torpor and revamp itself in a stylistically sustainable way long-term (ie: as a less overtly zany action series framing May as a co-protagonist instead of a "sidekick" to Ash), but the seeds are gradually assembling.
