Also in the Game your ideally supposed to go to Celadon before Saffron. And it's not like the Anime ever paid attention to the Map enough to notice why that's weird.

2024-10-02 00:40:38 +0000 UTCI was going to point out that Bulbasaur being a poison type shouldn't help much because almost every gen 1 grass was also poison, but then Tangela was the only pure grass in the whole game, so what you say is true. On a different note, it is annoying how the anime pays less and less attention to the game's locations as it goes on, in favor of generic towns or hills or oh-so-many forests.
