This month had blood pressure scares and moving house and taking suede jr. way more than usual and did I mention moving house? So yes,, the rest are commentaries but I HAVE SCRIPTS, THEY ARE READY TO GO AND THEY WILL BE WORKED ON AS SOON AS THE MONTH STARTS THANK YOU SCRIPTATHON! That will definitely be a mainstay going forward, look out for the next one! But for now, enjoy the episode!

2024-06-07 15:23:14 +0000 UTCGiven that I essentially gave up on the anime around Ecruteak as a kid (after first watching the earlier DP seasons...it's a long story), it's surprising to discover how early the Meowth boss fantasies began to seep into the show's formula. While both the AG and DP sagas are still numerically-distant from the current run of episode (AG considerably less so; note that this episode is chronologically closer to May's first onscreen appearance than Charizard's departure), it's intriguing to witness their customary idioms and stylistic features beginning to emerge and assembling into recognizable forms; it's arguably the most interesting feature of the Johto saga, at least once you get past the writing staff awkwardly straining to reconfigure Ash's party to appease marketing demands during its first 40 episodes.

I watched it after seeing Suede's script (Johto was the point where as a kid I'd lost interest in continuing to follow the anime outside sporadic episodes, so no prior knowledge of this one), and I was honestly stunned at the poignant characterization. Some of the best of the series.
