From what I recall, isn't this the final time that Ash utilizes Bulbasaur in even a marginally plot-relevant way until its now-impending departure? Given the extent to which it's effectively been a dead character walking since approximately Ecruteak (as a Kanto holdover the writing staff continue to awkwardly sweep under the rug even now that we're significantly closer to May and Max than to the Orange League), I wouldn't be surprised.
