Runaways Hiatus

Hi everyone

I have some news regarding Runaways. I had been in talks with Studio Buta for the past couple months to partner up and turn Runaways into a larger project. We had even gotten to the stage of planning the timeline for when we were going to release the trailer/gather the team. 

However, after reviewing what I had of the animatic, I became very dissatisfied with the quality and felt it wasn't up to par. I spent a long time trying to revise and improve it, but it wasn't coming out the way that I wanted. The studio suggested hiring some other writers to do the parts I was struggling with, however I was not the most comfortable handing over so much creative control when I myself did not think I had a completed vision for how I wanted the story yet.

The studio also requested the plans to expand what I had into a larger full series as it was better for production and longer-term planning as well, which was leading to stress on my end. Eventually after a lot of thinking, I decided to put the project on hiatus. I felt like if we continued to move forward it would be running the risk of releasing something that wasn’t ready yet. I ended up cutting things off with the studio and had put everything on hold. 

I’ve attached the rough character design and expression sheets I had been making along with the studio. There was a lot more in terms of schedule planning and stuff but I won’t include that here for now.  As for Runaways, it would be nice to be able to return to it in the future but as of now I don’t have any concrete plans. I currently have several other ideas for future projects I want to pursue and will continue working on them in the meantime. 

Work has also been ramping up and I may need to begin taking some time for that. I was recently set to direct a Miku animation music video so I’ll be posting some things from that as well.

I very much apologize for any potential disappointment and completely understand if you unsubscribe because of this. I really appreciate you all for your support throughout everything, it truly means a lot. I will continue to post my animation projects and behind the scenes here.
