The overlord paranoia has served us well in our endeavors with a lot of other anime haha. But okay that makes sense about the teapot steamed part, he found out they we holding out on him haha. I would want in on that too!!

Dang this was a lot of cool info right here. I love some good historical references. I played a lot of the Dynasty Warriors games growing up and really enjoyed the legendary warriors and battles. Even though I know there was a lot of embellishment it was still awesome. I do remember their being heavenly mandates and references to the seal of the emperor as well.

0:45 Ah, John Overlord has trained you well, always look for what's going on in the background, the little throw away comments or actions. 11:00 Maomao is foraging in the woods inside the rear palace and found the mushrooms something she should not be doing and shared them with the doctor so he would keep it a secret and let her eat them with him. Jinshi saying he likes his teapot steamed lets her know he is aware of her mushroom antics and wants in on it but he wants his prepared differently, teapot steamed. 26;00 Oh. Chris Overlord paranoia got you alerted to danger.

For people of high status it is literally a symbol of their status. When gifted to somebody of lower status it is a mark of special favor. It could be romantic interest, acknowledging a debt for a favor or as an acknowledgement of gratitude.

In China, unlike Japan, the emperors were not considered gods or descendants of gods, nor do they have an unbroken line of descent since ancient times. It's why we talk about dynasties, not to mention there were numerous inter-dynastic periods. The emperors were considered intermediaries between heaven and earth, and it was their responsibility to conduct ceremonies to maintain harmony with the heavens and honor the ancestors, which is also a moral obligation of Confucianism. I previously talked about the "mandate of heaven" which is necessary for a ruler to be legitimate, and it can be determined by how well they rule, as well as uncontrollable factors like the presence or absence of disease, famine, warfare. Many times, as dynasties fell, they were perceived to have lost the mandate, which might accelerate the overthrow through rebellion. And rebellion itself is also a bad omen. On the other hand, emperors were often deified after death. ....... The specific dynasty that most closely fits this anime is the Ming Dynasty, 1368-1644, but the organization of the concubines follows that of the Tang Dynasty, which immediately preceded it. There are other anachronisms that make the Ming Dynasty not an exact match, but the layout of the palace closely resembles the Forbidden City, which was built during the Ming Dynasty. ...... There are some people on YouTube who appear to have done their research, especially into Chinese records, who give a lot of insight into the historical influences of a lot of Chinese and Chinese-inspired works. I got most of this information from I'm YU, and there is another channel called Amimisu, which gives well-researched info, imo.

I think if I remember correctly, the hairpin has a variety of contexts in the culture. Hard to explain, but I think Jinshi's gesture expressed his supposed romantic interest in Maomao, Lady Gyokuyou's I think symbolises being under her protection and expressing her appreciation for Maomao.

She lost weight while taking care of the other concubine. The other attending ladies have sort of adopted her as a "kid sister" and are worried about her. Now for a bit of lore. You may have noticed that she is tiny. Short, skinny. That is because she grew up malnourished. This is because of her "experimentations" with poisons that she had developed partial immunities to contributed to her simply being malnourished.
