It's hard to forget that Riko is pretty much only as strong as any other child her age, and sadly has no special characteristics other than strong will and her knowledge of the creatures of the Abyss. Without Reg to help her she wouldn't have even made it to the second layer. Yet without Riko, Reg has almost no reason to do anything. He still doesn't remember anything about who he is and if Riko is killed then he has nothing. Ozen giving it to them straight that they aren't equipped to make it further is an important and necessary thing. Most of the time those kind of "I was just testing you," moments come off as kind of gimmicky, but here it works well.
It must have been truly traumatizing for Riko to find out that she was not only stillborn, but also possibly a ticking time bomb. Ozen was indeed insinuating that Riko was just a walking corpse, and at some point in her life would eventually just drop dead like the meat she threw in. It's possible that the longevity of the individual brought back by the vessel is dependent on how long they remained inside of it, or it might have something to do with how intact the body is upon entering. Who's to say? She also mentioned at 7:40 that after baby Riko started moving again, she tried heading towards the center of the abyss, and that the meat did the same. What could that mean?

Certainly takes the phrase "dead man walking" to a new level (Riko ain't a man but shush!).
