Something else that should be mentioned Again is the Change of The Characters Personality in the Anime Adaption. Here in the Anime, Naofumi stopped Raphtalia, lecturing her about Killing Idol Rabier would gain nothing for her and whatnot and showing nothing of his Characteristics from the LN. Now on the other Hand, as it was i think mentioned in earlyer Posts, Naofumis Character is different in the LNs. He didnt really care much that Raphtalia was angry at Idol Rabier, and Raphtalia was also more Brutal here. For example, when she entered the Room and Naofumi used Air Strike Shield to Separate Idol from Melty who had a Knife pointed at her Throat, Raphtalia quickly leaped at him without saying anything and stabbed him into the Shoulder with her Sword. Only after it she talked to him about the Suffering and whatnot. When they were fighting, Raphtalia and Naofumi came aware of the Fact that Idol was strong and experienced in battle and that he had a higher Level than Raphtalia. He then was able to steal Raphtalia's sword due to the Fact that he was wielding 2 Wips but Raphtalia pushed him out the window after she stabbed him with the Mana Sword and gaining her Sword back and stabbing him again in the Shoulders. That was Filos Monster Tamer Crest. If the " Owner" shouts a Order and the Monster dont listen, it activates and something like a electrical Shock runs through them ( very painful). It is from the same Type like the Slave Crest, and the " Owner" can activate or deactivate specific Parameter, for which things it activates from themself or not ( Naofumi deactivated everything for Raphtalia and Filo without 1 Thing, sadly this system need at least 1 activated " order") But he never uses them (only in such situations), which shows how much he cares for Raphtalia and Filo. Edit: Another "positive" thing of this Crests is the Monster Tamer Shield that Naofumi mentioned in Episode 5. This thing gives every Monster in his Party with a Monster Crest a little Boost with there Stats and more " EXP". Same is with Raphtalia, When he goes to the Slave Trader in the same Episode, he let his Shield absorb some of the Ink the Slave Trader used, which unlocked a Slave Shield, which has the same Effect like the Monster Tamer Shield. Thats one of the Reasons why Raphtalia and Filo are stronger then others ( Remember in Episode 6, i think, when he had the Merchand Man in his Carriage and they get stopped by Bandits, they sayd that they have someone with a Class Up, which means he was over Lvl.40, and yet Raphtalia and Filo beat him without Problems, and they were between Lvl 20-30 at that Time) Also in the Light Novels, he (Idol Rabier) declared that it was his duty to save Melromarc from falling in to the devil of the shield's hand and accuses that the devil of the shield is trying to get his way to the throne by raping Melty., To clear another thing: The Soldiers that attacked Raphtalias Village, they are the Soldiers who are under the Order of the Noblemen Melty mentioned ( The chairman of the nobles who are for an equal treatment of Demi-Humans). After he died in the First Wave, protecting the Demi-Human Village ( together with the Soldiers) they went Rampage after his Death.

This episode and the next does confuse me a little, because Raphtalia's backstory happened a lot earlier in the novels. It was surmised in the middle of the first book (around episode 2 in the anime) and it was explored fully in a side story at the end of that same book. Why they delayed it until now with the start of the events of the fourth book is a little strange to me but meh. Filo and Melty didn't have their conversation in the garden, it seems to be there to replace some minor scenes where Naofumi internally commented on Melty becoming more crude. Alongside that, in the books, Idol (the fat noble) put up much more of a fight. After separating Melty and Idol, he then drew a whip like in the anime, but he mentioned that it had been "soaking in the blood of demi humans for years," and when he swung it he accidentally hit a guard, who's armor then caved in and died immediately from the blow. Naofumi even commented that the guy should be fighting in the frontline of the waves.
