Chapter 4

After that whole deal with the police I decide that it is better if I just return home. Well more like I will return back to my abandoned apartment building, who is more like my base of operations. The place us sh*tty and unfurnished. I currently have around 1000$ on me, my income is around 500$ a month that I get from protection money. 

But that way of income has to go. I am just asking trouble if I keep that sh*t up, I am not 100% sure of the exact time when Batman will return, so I must have a clean way of income. 

As I walk back towards my apartment, I contemplate the different ways I could make some money. I have looked through the neighborhood, it doesn't seem like a bad place and we are the only gang around this neighborhood. So this place is under my protection.


In no way do I plan to let the system lead me or my actions. I just hope that one day I get the mission in which the failure consequence is the deletion of the System. But that would only be the best case scenario, though I am willing to use the system, as soon as I get the tools, I will immediately get rid of it. After all, the system doesn't seem to be some type of undefeatable/omnipotent power.

After some minutes I arrived back at my apartment. As soon as I open the door the first thing I see is the goons just eating some food. They are all already taken over by the system so I don't exactly trust them at all.


So I just say. "Guys, I need you to use the 1000$ that we have saved up… actually just take 900$ and use it to go and buy cleaning products, paint,  and all that. But as much as you can."


As I say that they nod, immediately take some money from a drawer and go outside. As they go outside I breathe a sigh of relief. I can now finally start some of my plans, in a week or two I should have everything planned. But first I must get some money before I can do anything. I know that the body of the guy that I occupy has no credit at all so taking a loan isn't too likely to be possible. I could go and try to contact my uncle Carmine to get some money, but that would make me seem weak and leave a trail of money to corruption. That can't be allowed, I guess I better find another way to get money, hmmm… I guess I will rob some gangs. But at the same time I will need to launder the money.


I sigh at this and take out the gun from under my shirt, I see that it has 12 bullets. I see that around this room, it has just a simple table and some chairs for me and my goons. But there are also a couple of drawers where we keep our ammunition and money. I keep my clothes in another room all together. 


I open the ammunition drawer and see  that it only has around eighty bullets. I am not exactly a good shot so this isn't nowhere near enough if I don't plan to use the speed force. But I will use the speed force just at smaller degrees then, I also take a kitchen knife and go outside again. I already know where some other small gangs are around, after all I did ask stuff like that from my goons as soon as I came into this world.

I walk down the stairs, thankfully I am only in the 3rd Floor of the 7 floor apartment building so I didn't spend a lot of time as I walked down the stairs. Still my mind did wander, after all, I have never killed someone, I was just a normal person in my first life. I wasn't a badass assassin. But to me that doesn't matter at all, wanting to live without killing someone in this world is just dumb in my opinion. Though obviously, no one must know that I killed them.

Thirty minutes later and I arrive at the outskirts of an abandoned factory. It seems like the plan has actually changed. This place is abandoned and there seems to be no cameras around, just some guys guarding the entry to the factory. 


Well then, I guess I will use speed force for this. 


*bzzzzt*


I see lightning crackling around me as the world slows down to a halt. It literally seems like time has stopped. So I just put up my hoodie and cover my face just to be sure.


I just jog along towards the guards and take out my knife, slashing their throats. Blood doesn't even come out due to it being too slow compared to my speed. 

Hmmm… killing is easy. I don't even feel anything from it. So I just go inside and see some more people with guns, are they guarding something? Probably drugs, gangs like this are known for that. Anyway I go along and slash the throats of the others too. I look around and see if there is anything of value. I go towards something that looks like an office and see some guys counting money. I kill them too and take all of the money putting it in a big duffle bag. Hmmm this should be around 300,000 $... this should be enough for me. I will get out of the crime world now. I look around for the cars, I just open their fuel pumps and shoot a bullet down the holes. Before the bullets can reach the fuel, I just blitz out of there, appearing ten kilometers away from the place in the middle of a highway road and I walk down it. Entering Gotham City…

That is when I exit the speed force and finally get a notification.

Hmmm… so I now get a character card huh. I immediately get the exp, but I don't use it. Let's see what character card I get. As soon as I concentrate on the card reward. I can feel a card appear in my hand which I have inside my pocket.

I take it out and see...

Yeah, this is a sh*tty card. Which is pretty much almost useless to me and it can only be used once. 

A character card allows you to temporarily use one ability of a certain person or creature. The best of low level abilities is Dead Shot's Aim. That would have been a useful ability, but turning into a zombie is a bad one. I can get shot in the head and die. Though, I become a zombie for only three minutes. Hmm… actually now that I think about it, there are some useful things I could do with this.


Anyway I just put all of my exp into stealth, maxing it out and the leftover exp into strength.

Three hours later and here I am, back to my place. I see that the guards are painting the outside of the building in red, covering some of the spray paint alongside the building. I went towards them and said. "Hey guys."


They turn around and look at me. "Oh, hey boss, we just started painting."


"You can stop now, just call a professional painter and pay them to paint the whole outside and inside of the apartment complex." I order them and they nod.

 I don't have any super revolutionary idea on how to make money. I don't even know how to make a phone or something like that. But I can definitely get other people to make sh*t for me and I will take credit for it. But to do that I will need money, a lot of money… so I guess I will be a real estate agent for some time.

Here it is, returning and better. Also the MC totally doesn't trust the system at all. He is very reluctant to upgrade his intelligence, he doesn't want the System arranging his brain or his memories. After all, the system was made by someone… and he doesn't trust something that he himself can't control. 😁👍
