Title: The Marauders...
….
"The title of the book will be: 101 Charms to Dealing With Household Pests -By Gilderoy Lockhart." I say to professor Slughorn who looks at me a little surprised. Obviously for a first year to know that many spells is surprising, but for someone like me who has studied magic for almost a decade. I mean I am pretty sure that most of the teachers (the competent ones) at Hogwarts can beat me and are more knowledgeable than me at their specific specialties, maybe except the Muggle Studies teacher… pretty sure I am more knowledgeable than anyone in that post about the Muggle world.
Slughorn looks at me and smiles at me and asks. "Well, young Gilderoy, I am sure that you can publish the book by yourself. Why are you asking me for help for something like this? Since you mastered your Patronus Charm, I am pretty sure that you don't need any help on some simple household charms."
I nod at this, he is right, I don't really need his help at all. Also in the wizarding world there is no law against children publishing books or something like that. But what I need is his connections, he has been working here for decades. He has connections to most people in high places, and it would be good for me if I used him to give me an in with these people. "Professor, it might be presumptuous of me to say this. But I couldn't think of anyone more helpful than you during this occasion."
He looks at me curiously and I put on a face of uncertainty about what I am going to say next. I can see that in the future some of these professors might associate me with some Tom Riddle, and I don't want that to happen. So I better rip that doubt out before it can actually grow.
"Do go on Gilderoy. You know that you can tell me anything and it won't leave this office of mine. I give you my word on that." Says Slughorn trying to reassure me.
In the end, I just sighed out loudly and decided to say. "Earnestly professor, I plan to keep this book writing thing going if it does good. Also I thought that you might know a guy or some previous Slug Club member who now works in this field and he or she can help me with this stuff."
Slughorn thinks about this for a little and in the end he says. "Yes… I can think of a couple people. I will write to them and see what I can do for you."
I nod at this and bow a little towards Slughorn. "Thank you, professor, I was a little nervous and didn't wanna seem like I was just using you for my benefits or something like that, while not having anything to give back to you."
Slughorn laughs at this. "Hahaha… Gilderoy, you becoming successful is a reward of its own. I am a teacher after all, and seeing one of my students become successful brings joy to me, so that is my payment. Hahahaha…"
I smile at him at that. "Thank you for everything professor. I will not bother you anymore then professor."
I then walk outside of the room and say to Slughorn one last time. "Good Night, professor."
He just toasts his glass of wine towards me as he poured himself some.
….
As I walk outside of his office and walk off into the darkness. I can't help but contemplate some things, I will need to start building some more connections and socialize some more while I am here at Hogwarts because later on in life I won't have the time for it.
….
….
A couple of days after the talk with professor Slughorn, I am currently in the library studying the different effects of household charms and am copying some ancient, but useful household charms. I got them all from the Room of Requirements.
That is when I hear some steps toward the library, hmm… it is six in the morning, usually no one comes here. I look up and see it is one of the sixth year Ravenclaw. I search through my memories using Occlumency and remember that this guy's name is Kastro, he is also the captain of the Ravenclaw Quidditch team. Which sucks for me because he is probably here to bother me about training. I don't need more training, my training is when I use my Occulumency to do image training, my body is already strong enough. Unlike most children in Hogwarts, I eat healthy and do some regular exercise.
He comes towards me and levels a harsh stare at me. "Lockhart, you haven't been at training at all ever since you became the new chaser."
I just look at his eyes and with a subtle surface Legilimency prode and I figure out what he wants. With my wand under my sleeve I point it towards him and whisper.
<Confundo>
I'm his eyes go a little glossy as my spe hits him. In the end the look on his eyes clears up and he says. "Oh, I see, so you trained by yourself because your schedule doesn't match with our training times."
I just look back at my book and go back to some research, but I do answer him with a nonchalant. "Yep, that's it. Remember, you did see me once train."
He then jerks up as if he just remembered something. "Oh! Right… I did see that."
"Yes you did. Now run along." I tell (order) him as I go back to my reading. I don't care about Quidditch, but it will boost my fame, so I will definitely play it for a while. After Hogwarts, I don't plan to be a Quidditch player at all. That is a lame, boring and limiting career choice. I mean sure, there is a lot of money in the profession, but not enough room to grow my magic.
I pull out a piece of paper from my Hogwarts robe with an unspecified spell, I open it and a map of the Hogwarts Castle, together with the Quidditch field and the area around the castle. I concentrate on a specific part of the castle and the map becomes blank for a second before it shows the library and the area around it. I look if anyone was around and see that in the corner of the library, I see four names, Remus Lupin, Peter Pettigrew, Sirius Black, and James Potter.
Hmmm… so they definitely saw what I did then. Well then… I will have to take care of this.
I get up and act like I am getting a new book, and quickly I pull out my wand and with quick swish I cast four <Stupefy> spells.
Immediately the four of them are easily stupefied. I then point my wand at all of them and dispel their disolusment charms and take Jame's Invisibility Cloak off. I then point my wand at them. Well, me using a Confudo charm on one of my classmates is not a big thing really, and if it can't be proven, I won't even be given detention for using such spells outside of the classroom. But I need to have a clean background, from now on I should also be more careful, even for small things like this.
<Oblivate>
With this spell, I modify their memories and delete some. I really should be more careful about stuff like this. Well this was a wake up call to me, I should definitely be more careful from now on. Also these guys have some idea to prank me… oh… well I won't delete that memory or some skilled Legilimency User would notice the change.
After that I wake them up and walk away, I go back to writing and they observe me. I do look at the Invisibility Cloak… but I decide to not do anything about it. It would be useless to me currently anyway so it doesn't matter. And assuming that Dumbledore doesn't have dozens of tracking charms into it would be dumb.
Anyway, it doesn't matter… I am nowhere near strong enough to even dare to think of gathering the three Deathly Hallows.
Also soon it is Quidditch season is just around the corner, so I will train a little before the match.
….
AUTHOR NOTE:
The MC is using spells around the halls, it doesn't matter as long as they are not dangerous. Plus using a Confundo spell isn't illegal or anything like that. Even if he was found out, he would at worst get some detention for usage of charms outside of the classroom, which would happen even if he used any other spell. To others it seems just like another student who doesn't wanna train Quidditch. The MC always works under the assumption that he is being observed always.
P.S: Though the MC isn't a match for the teachers, other students are easy to him since he has been studying Magic for way longer than all of them.
