Chapter 28




Title: Ruining a Friendship...

-Lockhart POV-


Arriving once more at Hogwarts was amazing especially when I see the carriages pulled by thestrals. Thestrals are dark horse-like creatures, who have dark bat-like wings on their backs. These creatures can only be seen by people who have witnessed death.


I must say, they are very beautiful creatures. Definitely gonna be experimenting on them after I graduate from Hogwarts. I plan to spend my years improving my magic and can at least hold my own against Voldemort. Though that would be hard, it's not impossible, but at the same time, I am very unlikely to fight Voldemort head-on without having at least some backup.


As I am thinking that I notice that my little friend Amelia Bones also seems to be able to see the thestrals. Since she will grow into a strong witch, I should keep her secrets close to me this year. Especially with the bad glares that the Slytherins are sending me. I know I can beat around seven 7th year students fighting me head-on. Now that is impressive for a second year like me… but not that impressive. That is why I plan to build some items this year that will help me in fights with huge groups of people. 


"Gil… what do you think happens to us after death?" Asks Amelia suddenly as we are about to get into the carriage. I see that Lily and her friend Alice are trying to get into this carriage too. I let them all come inside, and as we are all inside, Lily is sitting next to me, Amelia is sitting in front of me and Alice is sitting in the corner. 


So I decided to look a little into Amelia's memories from this summer. I can see that one of her uncles died due to the fights against Voldemort. Truly sad stuff, he was hit by a terrible unknown curse and even the hospitals couldn't help him. The spell was probably only a pure blood's family secret spell or something like that. So there was no publicly known cure for it.

Well, that is sad and all… but it works out for me as I grab Amelia's small hand and hold it with mine. Lily looks a little surprised by this. Alice on the other hand only smirks, I use a surface Legilimency and see that she thinks that I am some type of playboy or something like that. Well… seems like I will have to try and change that opinion. Now is a perfect time.


"Amelia, I think that worrying about what happens after death isn't worth it. As long as our loved ones remember us then that is all that matters. Because even if we die, we will still be living inside the hearts of our loved ones." I say that to her with a sweet voice. But as she hears that she just pulls her hands away from mind. Huh? Why did she do that? She even seems a little annoyed.


"Amelia, is something wrong?" I ask her, unsure of what is bothering her.

-Amelia POV-

Having someone close to you die is a horrible feeling. I don't know how to deal with it, I feel sad. But at the same time, I am also terrified of death.

 I too am gonna one day die just like that. It doesn't matter what I achieve as in the end, I will die no matter what. I have also started learning Occulumency this summer, it was a magic art that helps keep my feelings under control and it also protects against mind attacks.


Uncle died by getting hit by some type of craziness curse and then he ended up committing suicide. Learning of that was horrifying. Also… it seems like Lockhart just read my mind, my Occulumency is extremely weak, but I still sensed him enter my mind. I never knew that he was someone like that. I guess him being the dashing prince that does no wrong when I first saw was truly just a fantasy of mine.


No matter how strong a Legilimency user is, an Occulumency user will be able to sense when one is entering his mind. Even if he can't defend against it.


But I don't say anything about it since Alice and Lily are here too. Gil is still a friend of mine and shaming him here would ruin his Hogwarts reputation and get him expelled for using mind reading magic on a student. Still, I will definitely tell him about this… well I will whisper this to him in a public place. My trust in him has waned a little with his recent action. 


I guess that is why people say that you shouldn't meet your heroes… damn… this year just started horribly.

-General POV-


Of course, due to her reaction, Gilderoy immediately guessed that something was wrong and thought back on what he could have done wrong for her today.


..
He has to think for a couple of minutes of uncomfortable silence as finally, he figures out what it was. 


'Well, sh*t… she must have learned some type of Occulumency. She now knows that I can read minds. Still… it isn't that bad. The situation is fixable.' Ponders Lockhart, he knows that he shouldn't be using Legilimency so often, he underestimated Amelia and thought that she is only a 2nd Year kid that doesn't know much. 'Guess I should stop thinking of them as kids and actually take them seriously.'



"So Lily, how was your vacation. I heard that a new amusement park opened close to where you live, is that true?" Gilderoy asks her with a slight smile while looking at her. He also nudges his head toward Amelia slightly, to signal that he is doing this so they can get to another topic and start a conversation.


"Oh! Yeah, it was opened but it closed down soon after, due to some kid having an accident at one of the rides." Explains Lily, she then doesn't want to let the awkward atmosphere develop anymore so she asks Gilderoy too. "What about you Gil, how was your summer?"



"Oh, it was good, and finally meeting my family again after the school year was so nice…"

During the whole carriage drive, Gilderoy keeps the conversation going. Though Amelia being quiet the whole time made it awkward again.


To Gilderoy, it seemed like she was just being emo. He wasn't that distracted by it though, as he had already planned what to do. Though he doesn't like it, he is willing to take a small risk due to the future knowledge that his future self provided him.


'Is she worth it though?' Wondered Gilderoy as he got off the carriage and went to the Ravenclaw table. What he was thinking about wasn't her value as a person, but her value that she might have as his tool. 'I guess I will find out soon enough.'



….
After the sorting ceremony, Gilderoy just uses the Confundo Charm in a couple of his friends and roommate as he separates from the group. He also casts a disillusionment charm, making himself invisible.



….
Finally, he finds Amelia going towards the Hufflepuff Common room together with the Hufflepuff House. He used the Confundo Charm on a couple of people, confusing them and that is when he comes out of his disillusionment charm, making him visible. He had already transfigured his clothes to look like those of a Hufflepuff and he walks amongst the people he used his Confundo spell on, he acts as if he is their friend so he doesn't seem suspicious. "Yo, guys did you see the new seeker for the Irish. He is a complete monster on the field…."

AUTHOR NOTE:
What is the MC planning? Also this year of Hogwarts will be quite fun to write for me. I have a very personality rich D.A.D.A teacher… unlike the last time where she slept with her students and the MC wanted none of that.


P.S: Some assumptions that characters make about magic can be wrong. 😉
