1. Pencils! I'm trying a new technique with my pencils. I start with a very, very thick sketching pencil. It's like sketching with a giant crayon. This forces me to focus on completing the general shape, the gesture, before I start focusing on any details. Since this is a profile portrait, I also used a little trick to get the chin position right, because that's always tricky when drawing an open mouth. I drew the sketch with the mouth closed, then selected just the lower lip and jawline and rotated that part of the sketch with the rotation point moved the where the jaw connects to the cranium.
2. Ink!
3. Color blocking!
4. Form shading!
5. Backlight!
6. Cast shadows!
7. Shine!
8. Colored linework!
9. Effects! Eyelashes, heavy blush, and a single horizontal gradient on the backdrop.
