Harry Potter: Reborn as Lockhart

Chapter 7



Title: Potions

After learning a couple of stealth spells I feel a little better. Afterall having the ability to hide has its own usefulness. Then after that I go to sleep for the night.



….


And just like that the next day came. After another usual class in Transfiguration with mis McGonagall I was ready for my next class. It was potions with professor Slughorn. 


As soon as I entered the classroom I saw some Gryffindors here while the Ravenclaws like the studious children that they are  already here. The classroom is in the dungeons but it isn't at all dreary. It has good lighting and there are even some bright colours around the room with some pictures of Slughorn.



Some of the students were nervous not sitting in the front so I decided to take one of the front seats. Then someone touches me on the shoulder. I turned around and saw a blond haired girl with blue eyes. It was the girl that I met from the train Anna Abbott.


When she sees me she says. "Hey Gil haven't seen you since the sorting ceremony. Did you know that Professor McGonagall can turn into a cat."


I just looked at her and in an amused voice told her. "Is that so… she did the same thing in our class. It is called an Animagus Transformation. One of the highest levels one can achieve in Transfiguration. It is also theorised that the animal one can transform into is also their Patronus Animal."


She just looked at me with wide unbelieving eyes. "You really are smart… I didn't believe it when I heard some students from Hufflepuff say that you were very smart and even helped them."



When I heard her say that. I just smiled at her and used the beautiful face that I was born with to my advantage. Showing the perfect amount of teeth on my smile. Truly like everything else that I do… it was a perfect smile… born from me smiling at myself in the mirror like a lunatic. Then I just say to her with a soft voice. "Oh please don't say things like that or you will make me The Great Gilderoy Lockhart embarrassed."



She just laughed a little and had a small blush when she saw me. Then as Anna is about to say something…


The doors of the classroom opened very silently with a soft creaky sound to them... and as soon as they did so we heard a voice say. "Welcome first years… to your first class of Potions."


Then he goes to the front of the class. I saw that it was Professor Horace Slughorn. He was wearing a green suit which looked quite elegant for a man his age. He also had a little round belly. He looked at all of us with a smile. As if already analysing who will be the most talented. Truly like a true Slytherin. I even looked at him in the eyes to confirm that he isn't using any Legilimency or anything like that. And he truly wasn't. 


Then while smiling he says. "No need to be nervous children. Unlike some other professors I don't want you to feel pressure or uncomfortable around me."


Then his smile gets wider when he goes to his desk and from one of its drawers he takes out something and puts it on the table. It was a blue potion. He holds the vial up and says. "This is a Mind Opening potion. Do any of you know what this potion does. If you do raise your hand."



Oh that is quite a good potion which requires expensive ingredients to make. It also isn't something that is even learned in the Hogwarts Curriculum. Plus it can't even be made by your average Hogwarts graduate either. I see that no one has raised their hands to answer… except me that is. 


When Slughorn sees that I have rosen my hand he just points towards me and says. "Yes mister Lockhart."

When he addressed me, I just said. "A Mind Opening Potion is used to allow a person to absorb information easier for 30 minutes. It also has the side effects of making a person sleepier after the effects run out."


Slughorn just smiled and said. "You are absolutely correct Lockhart. 10 Points to Ravenclaw for knowledge that is well above his years."

Then he takes out his wand and casts a silent spell towards the blackboard. Then the chalk starts moving on its own to write something. Slughorn then says in a happy voice. "Now… I am sure that some of you might find school a little hard so… whoever amongst you makes me the best Cure Against Boils Potion will win the Mind Opening Potion. And remember even if you don't use the potion… I am sure some students taking their N.E.W.T  or O.W.L exams will be willing to pay quite a lot of Gallons for this. Follow the instructions on the blackboard or the book. You have one hour starting NOW."



When some students heard him say this they all got excited. Even I can't help but think… this guy is a really good teacher.


…


And just like that we weren't separated into groups. Instead everyone of us works by themselves. This pushes students for personal excellence.


And even while everyone else was still working on their positions. I finished mine in twenty minutes and decided to go to Professor Slughorn who was walking around and making sure that no accidents happened.


When I get close to him I just say to him with a slight smile on my face. "Professor I finished the potion."



He just turned around and looked at me with a slight surprised look on his face. He just says. "Finished so fast Lockhart."


I smile and just nod. I hand him a potion bottle.


"This seems good." Then he gets a look on his eyes. I immediately noticed that he probably thought that I cheated and already had a Cure Against Boils Potion on me already. 



But he doesn't make a big deal out of it and with a smile on his face he says. "Let's go and see how it came out."


Even some students who are working on their own potions look towards me. Afterall I was the first to finish it when they weren't even half done.


Then when he walks to my cauldron and I walk behind him. He just takes my spoon out of the cauldron. With a little potion on it… he just looks at it and with a slightly surprised voice he says. "Merlin's Beard!!! This is the best Cure Against Boils Potion that was made by any first year I have taught… truly marvellous. 4 Points to Ravenclaw for such excellence on mister Lockhart's part."


Then Slughorn takes another look at it and says. "Truly excellent. This is the type of quality Cure Against Boils Potion that is sold in famous shops… could you stay after class mister Lockhart. I have an offer to make to you."
