The Game of a Blood Mage

Chapter 85

Title: The Old Man Above the Heavens...

....
As the golden light of purity radiated through the sky it felt like the Heavens had descended on earth.

Alex witnessed this and concluded that this wasn't a battle he could interfere in. So he made a barrier around himself and the still nauseous Camilla to protect them from the radiating light. He looked at the other Legendary Ranks and narrowed his eyes in warning.

Camilla and Alex were both creatures of Darkness and would suffer from the passive purification energy of the Monk. Even if the old man didn’t intend to hurt them, sometimes people also step on bugs without even noticing them. This was the same, the old monk's aura alone is enough to injure them.

Especially since neither Alex nor Camilla was at their best right now. The former also turned from his Night Crawler transformation into the normal human form.

Alex looked at the old Monk, his eyes didn't show anything as he hugged a nauseous Camilla closer to him. He couldn't help it, the old man's power was mesmerizing, something that made even the usually calm Alex feel jealous of someone else's power. It was the same feelings he had even when he used to play this world as a game in his 1st life.

Suddenly the wave of golden power that seemed like golden water gathered together to form a giant hand that seemed like it could squash a country like a fly.

The giant golden hand then moved towards the reality crack in the sky and went through. It slapped the giant serpent on the other side, to Alex the slap seemed soft, and gentle, like a Buddha chiding a small child.

BOOOOOM!!!

Suddenly the golden hand turned into a golden beam as it shot off into the snake. Pushing the giant serpent away like a missile.

The old Monk took out a giant metallic needle from what Alex assumed to be a storage ring with extremely high capacity. Because the needle made the old man seem like he was nothing but a speck of dust in comparison.

'How… amazing…' Alex was in a trance as he looked at the power being displayed.

Back in the game when he had been defeated by the same old Monk when he had attacked the Monastery. Alex had thought that the old man might at best be just Beyond Legendary Rank. Also, he confirmed something that he had wanted to know for a long time, and that was even if Alex at his peak in the game as the God of Ice had attacked the monk 1v1… he would have still lost. Pretty bad too… Thankfully in the game, Alex hadn't attacked by then as he couldn't enter the Mortal Realm.

At least this time, unlike in the Game, Alex had no bad blood between him and the Monks. Also, he hadn't attacked the Monastery this time either.

The monk manipulated the giant needle to see together the crack in space as if it was a ripped cloth. After that, the reality mended together like it hadn't separated, to begin with.

Alex noticed that Camilla still was out of it and had entered a state of extreme fatigue and shock due to the Serpent's Passive Skills that were still in effect against her. She was in a weakened state and he thought about killing her off right here and now, but decided against it, the Mortal Realm was already weakened. Any more and the Gods would start acting like spoiled children and bringing their Avatars into the mortal world without a care in the world.

So he decided to not kill off Camilla while she was weakened. After all, at the end of the day, she was someone beneficial to leave alive. Plus after killing her, the loyal Vampires would give their life to hunt him down. The world was already too troublesome to deal with these things.

"I am leaving, today has been quite an insightful experience." The Pope bowed slightly, and that was when Alex noticed that unlike most of the other Legendary Ranks, the Pope hadn't been frozen in fear either. "Hahaha~ who would have thought that at my age I would see such a blood-pumping scene."

Also, there was something in the Pope's eyes that unnerved Alex, it was the lack of fear. Even Camilla had been afraid of the giant serpent, yet the religious old man didn't seem bothered by it. As if he wasn't afraid of death at all.

Alex dismissed such thoughts, he never fought against very religious people. They weren't afraid of death and that made them scary as hell.

The Heavenly Demon's dark eyes also were locked on the old religious man. But he didn't stare for long as his gaze wandered at the Legendary Ranks who had been frozen in fear and he smiled at them. "C'mon now, there is no need to be afraid of a snake. It's gone now."

The people were still scared, and Alex could see that. Once one entered Legendary Rank, it would be safe to assume that at least you could escape the strongest of opponents and as long as you didn't antagonize monsters like Camilla, then everything would be okay.

That belief had been broken today, some of them even shook in fear, using Teleportation Talismans and Spells to return to their dwellings. Also, some of the people were unnerved by the Old Monk's pure aura and were afraid that he would exterminate them.

“Well, see ya later~” the Heavenly Demon waved Alex off as he went away. Looking at the Old Monk and licking his lips, Alex could see the look of greed that appeared on the man's face before he teleported away.

The Blood Mage himself could see the different reactions between some and even suspected that amongst the people who had been here today were some who faked being scared. After all, it wasn't that easy to terrify a Legendary Rank being. But… everyone of them had their agenda, and Alex could only hope that their goals wouldn't intertwine. Else he would have to crush them all.

The Witch of the Blood Forest, also known as Isabella, looked at Alex with an unknown intensity. The young man had immediately gone and secured Camilla as soon as she started experiencing weakness.

Many that had gathered held a grudge against Camilla and would have given anything to kill her. Isabella looked at the two other people left and one of them was Yomu, the Vampire was loyal and strong. But she could have easily been defeated by the number of Legendary Ranks.

But Alex was different, he would be able to hold them back easily as this is his territory. But this also was bound to show whose side he was on, and from Isabella's view, it would have been better to just be neutral. Now instead the enemies of Camilla would turn their gazes at him too, as this was the best chance to kill the Vampire Queen.

Camilla was someone too cautious to let something like this happen ever again. From now on, she would know better than to be the biggest damage dealer against an opponent above Level 30 while being below it.

.
The Monk with the Unbreakable Body had tears come out of his eyes as he looked at the old man in the sky radiating a golden light that put most people at ease. "I have seen the light!"

The middle-aged monk bowed down, his real name was Shai. Though by now no one called him by that, as he was the Monastery's official leader. Yet as he gazed at the old Monk, he couldn't help but feel like someone insignificant. All his worries and troubles seem to dissipate into thin air.

Yomu, the Vampire under Camilla, floated towards Alex and thanked him. "I owe you one. Thank you…"

Though she didn't like him, and would rather have her mistress never even meet someone like Alex who always schemed and had even used Camilla in one of his schemes. But in the end, she knew… if he hadn't been here today, Camilla would have been ripped apart. Many in today's meeting wanted her dead, even the usually peaceful Pope would like someone like her to die.

“If anything happens to the mistress, I will do everything to help you,” Yomu said with eyes filled with sincerity. It surprised even Alex, since usually Mages were self-serving people, always looking out for their interests.
As she took Camilla from his arms, her sincere eyes never left until she teleported away.

Alex nodded but didn't say anything to her. He could feel the old monk's gaze and it unnerved him.

Suddenly the old man appeared next to him, the golden energy around him was gone and even Alex couldn't sense anything special. It truly felt like the man in front of him was just an old Monk with one foot on the grave. This put him even more on edge because people who hid like this weren't after fame, power, money, women, or anything.

One can predict someone's actions and decisions through their goals. But the old Monk didn't display any of that, he had no desire to grow stronger, no will to dominate.

"Hmmm~" he hummed while looking at Alex with a gentle grandfatherly gaze. "You seem like a troubled young man. I wonder what your story is?"

"I assure you that it's nothing interesting," Alex felt like he would throw up. That was just how out of control this situation was. He knew that the old Monk probably wouldn't hurt him, he had no reason to. But...

"Oh, well no one's story could be interesting. Even mine would be called a boring one." The old monk reassured him. "People are only special to themselves and their close ones. I learned something in my long years of life, that when you get to know someone, even the vilest of men, or the wisest of sages. None of them had any special stories, some I heard so much that they are kind of cliche. So tell me what is your story?"

"How about you tell me yours?" Alex asked, his body relaxed. There was no point in being on guard, not like it would do anything. "I would like to hear that."

And so he sat down at the side of the roads in Soul Sect and looked at the grain farm in front of him. The old Monk sat next to him, seemingly content. "Well, young people are so curious nowadays. But, I will tell you if you are willing to hear it."

The Blood Witch, Isabella, and the Monk Shai observed this from the sidelines. Neither of them had the guts to join the conversation. Mostly because the old man with a satisfied smile on his face had just casually slammed away a serpent who could destroy the world.

A/N: The old monk was mentioned in the earlier chapters of the story. He was someone that had thwarted the MC's plans in-game to take over the Monastery, kill the monks, and steal their techniques. The MC had been destroyed in the game.

P.S: He is a character who has reached 'Enlightenment'. What I mean by that will be explained later.

P.P.S: The reason things are changing so much from in-game is due to one HUGE and kind of obvious difference. Alex has already figured it out. Will be explained later on.
