The Game of a Blood Mage

Chapter 94: The Joy of Power

____
"GhatAhhhh!!" The painful scream of a creature rang out in a dark forest close to the Soul Sect. One of the creatures inhabiting it was injured.

The injured creature was a goblin wearing rags which consisted of crudely cut animal skin. And it had a wooden splinter go straight through its foot. Blood pooled on the corrupted dark grass below, as blood slithered out of the injury profusely.

The goblin looked at his foot in annoyance and seemed almost ready to cry. "Damn it! This body sucks! I thought those rebirth tokens would allow me to be reborn in a new human body!"

Unlike any normal goblin, this one was quite special and held a lot of secrets.

"Well, did you think you could escape a Goddess with just a simple Rebirth Token?" A voice suddenly said, looking up the goblin saw a silver-haired handsome man sipping a cup of tea. He had a position as if he was sitting in an invisible floating chair.

That man was Alex and he had an amused smirk. "Sometimes life is like a floating chair, it just lets others sit on you."

"Don't try and make such dumb ideologies at a time like this!" The goblin yelled out in anger, looking at his foot that had been pierced straight through.

'It is all your fault that I was killed!' Thought the goblin, but it didn't dare say anything out loud. Having the man floating in the air know anything would just put himself in jeopardy. It knew that Alex wasn't someone that you should be glad to meet when injured.

"Do you need some help with that?" Inquired Alex, and with a wave of his hand, the wood splinter piercing the goblin's foot disappeared as if it was never there. Then the wound slowly closed together and not even a scar was left behind. Except for the blood on the ground, it would seem like there had never been an injury, to begin with.

But the goblin was even more surprised that Alex was the one able to heal its wound so well.

'Wasn't he supposed to be a Blood Mage? Their Blood Magic was the opposite of Life Magic that included healing. So it should be essentially impossible for him to learn Healing Spells.'

The Goblin contemplated, but couldn't come up with a solid answer.

Alex stared at the creature curiously. "You are quite smart for a goblin."

The goblin in question felt chills go down its spine. Now it understood that the situation wasn't as simple as it first seemed. A splinter got stuck in its foot and Alex suddenly appeared like an angel. It was so 'random' almost as if it had been preplanned. Things like this rarely happen.

*sigh* "I know you are trying to play around with me. You should stop the games now." Said the goblin, its whole demeanor changing drastically. If it didn't have such a pathetic experience, it would even command some respect.

"O -Oh~ now that's something very strange. A goblin acting so much like a human? Now that's weird. It's almost like you have a human soul in you." Alex's smirk widened, and once again, the goblin cursed its luck as a cold feeling entered its heart.

"If you already know, then stop messing around. It's your fault that I am like this!" Exclaimed the child-sized green creature.

"Who might you be?" – Alex tilted his head in confusion. But the smug smirk that he didn't hide said a thousand words. "I don't remember everyone I have screwed over?"

"Grrrr!" The goblin clenched its teeth in anger, growling at the floating man.

"Also, is your new body male or female?" He inquired. Narrowing his eyes as if trying to look through the dirty animal skin that acted as clothing for the green creature. "I can't tell with goblins, they all seem kinda ugly to me either way."

"Tch, I knew you were here to give petty insults. How did you even find me?" The goblin laid down on the grass, having already given up.

"You still didn't answer about what gender." Alex seemed very insistent on this.

"I am still female," answered the goblin reluctantly.

"Damn, I thought you would be reborn as a guy. That would have been funny as hell. Kekekeke~" Alex seemed amused like he was having the day of his life.

"Don't act like you didn't know all this before you even came here," she looked at him with a strange gaze and the goblin's eyes shone purple for a split second.

"Hey now~ I am not an all-knowing God. I can miss these things too." He made a case for himself.

But the bald and ugly goblin wasn't impressed and didn't believe him at all. "Can you stop this act?".

"Was that desperation I heard? Are you sure you want that?" Alex's playful smirk turned malicious in an instant.

His smile was so wide that it seemed to slit his face in two. "Especially since it seems like your intelligence has dropped too. How many pieces was your soul divided into? 1/3rd?"

The goblin looked at him uncomfortably, Alex had already figured out what she was. By now she had realized that he had seen straight through her… maybe even before they met he knew everything.

Tears came out of the goblin's eyes and it bowed down, its head touching the black, corrupted grass. "Please… don't kill me. I helped you in the past too."

"Oh~" Alex's amusement peaked at the creature's actions. "So you have lost memories too? Quite a lot of them."

Again a chill went down the goblin's spine at how easily he seemed to read her. In the end, the goblin decided to tell the truth. "Yes, I have barely any memories left and in the end, I am just a copy that was barely able to escape. I-..."

She hesitated at first, too afraid to even say her real name out loud. "I am Julie, the Headmistress of the Magic Academy."

Alex clapped as if he saw a very dramatic play. "Bravo, my old friend. It seemed like you had escaped safely from the Goddess. Even though your true self isn't here."

The goblin who had once been one of the most powerful people in the Human Continent looked down in shame.

"Don't flatter yourself too much though." Alex chuckled, his eyes glinting with a calculating look. "You aren't the real Julie, she would never feel shame like you are feeling right now. She would have simply asked for help and offered me something in return."

The goblin looked at him in surprise, and he continued explaining with a snake-like smirk. "Mages don't hold grudges. What Julie did back then was for her benefit, and I eliminated her for my benefit. Holding a grudge would be useless. Raising you right now would be kind of beneficial."

Mages… were like machines. Holding grudges because they clashed in the past was something stupid and illogical. Sure they would fight again if they got in each other's way, or if it was beneficial.

But why not help the other and even become allies if necessary?

Alex planned to build this new and reborn Julie back to Legendary Rank, even past that too. To him, someone who had been a semi-enemy for many years who wasn't someone he would hold a grudge against. Though he will still keep an eye on her, just in case.

But working together and trusting her were two different things.

At the moment Alex acted confident. In his mind, he wasn't sure if Julie was putting on an act of telling the truth.

The Headmistress wasn't someone he would ever underestimate. After all, he didn't want to end up being tricked by her in some way. That woman had tricked the Gods to give her immortality.

Even in this goblin form, she could still be formidable, her tongue was the most dangerous than any weapon she possessed.

"Why?" Goblin Julie asked cautiously, it was clear that she didn't trust him at all.

"Why?" Alex repeated her question. But his eyes seem to see straight through her. "I am not going to experiment on you. But you will owe me one, don't forget that."

She sighed in relief. In the end, Alex was way more powerful than the current her, so even if he wanted to do something she wouldn't be able to stop him. Also, this was her last countermeasure, and didn't want to die.

"So? Do you want to come with me?" Alex asked. The gentle smile on his face seemed genuine.

Right now the goblin Julie had no power or visible artifact that would help her. Neither did she have another method to resurrect. Alex was the safer option to survive in this world that had now turned crazy.

Corruption, beasts, humans, other goblins, etc. Even a simple fish might turn into a monster able to defeat Rank 3 beings if it was corrupted.

In this goblin's body, she had the same strength as some young child. If she hadn't remembered some old Blood Rituals, this part of Julie's soul would have died off after its body was killed.

Alex's eyes showed nothing and he just gazed at the goblin calmly waiting for her answer. If Julie was in his hands then he could see for himself and discover the truth. The reason why he acted like he needed her permission was just in case the real Julie had put some countermeasures in place.

Though if the little goblin answered with a No, Alex would just kidnap her. She didn't have a choice in these things. He was simply giving Julie the illusion of a choice.

"I agree to your demands and will listen to one of your requests in the future. No matter what it is," goblin Julie agreed, looking at Alex fearfully.

But he didn't seem surprised by the answer one bit, and now he could see that Julie had lost a huge deal of intelligence too.

Sincere words like this could be used in magical contracts, and Alex wasn't nice enough to not take advantage of this.

Already a floating scroll and feather pen had appeared behind him, just outside of the g
Julie's view. It wrote what she had just said and then disappeared.

'A soul binding contract, it doesn't matter even if this is just a part of her soul. The real soul will also be bound by the contract.'

Even with those thoughts in mind, Alex smiled at her innocently.
