Alex was outside, walking around the Soul Sect under disguise and putting certain Magic Arrays around here.
These were all traps that would be activated, sacrificing everyone in the Soul Sect to create a mighty barrier around it that would be able to contain the Beast Emperor temporarily. This was the last resort of course, and it was just in case Alex needed to escape.
"Ahh~ why did I think you would change?" Suddenly a voice from behind startled him. "Also can you stop being such a try-hard all the time? Even I had a difficult time finding you. Why do you even have such a disguise if you are just going through normal people?"
Alex sighed, regretful that he would have to postpone his array for a time. Turning around he was met with the two-thousand-year Vampire Queen. She looked at him amused and extended her hand. "Carry me."
Alex just walked past her, confusing Camilla as he went to a street vendor and came back with a cone of cotton candy. He put it in his hand and went back to work.
Camilla pouted, "Hey! Don't treat me like a kid!" Though she said that, she continued eating cotton candy. She hadn't eaten cotton candy in two thousand years so she wasn't going to miss the chance. "Also, that array will fail. The Beast Emperor will break through it like paper."
"I want it to fail," Alex confirmed, not needing to tell her anymore as she realized what his plan was.
"Ohh~ that's cheeky~" Camilla was impressed, Alex hadn't even reached the peak of Legendary Ranks. But yet, his plans were dangerous even to those Immortal Beings. - 'Heh, his intellect is off the charts. How did he achieve that? How many spells to increase his intelligence did he use? Calculations like this can barely be run even by a supercomputer.'
Camilla had thought previously that the distance between Immortal Rank and Legendary wasn't something that could be crossed so easily. But Alex's mind seemed to be the only thing that could jump Ranks and was able to outplay Immortal Ranks.
Of course, she didn't know that ever since Level 1 Alex had been putting all of his stat points into Intelligence. So as long as he kept putting points there, while his raw power might not match with those stronger than him, then he would be able to still have a chance to defeat them.
The Gamer Interface might be something that would become useless the stronger Alex got. But for now, as long as kept putting points in Intelligence, then it would be useful as it physically adjusted and enhanced his central soul-brain.
"So, you know that I can see alternate versions of ourselves right?"
"Yeah," answered Alex casually, even though he was doing millions of calculations in a split second. He could still speak as if he wasn’t brainstorming anything and reply to Camilla confidently, knowing that even though he was doing this he wouldn’t reveal anything he didn’t want to Camilla and could keep up with her. "It was kinda obvious. But what are you leading onto here."
"Well… certain versions of ourselves fell in love,” she said, with a strange look in her eyes. For a split second, Alex contemplated trying to manipulate her into falling in love with him, but while that would have big rewards as someone like her protecting him then he wouldn’t have to worry about the Beast Emperor.
‘But Camilla is smart, she would eventually figure it out. Then she will become someone even more dangerous than the Beast Emperor.’ - he contemplated and decided that saying anything that might twist Camilla's feelings would be the wrong move. "That's obvious too. Infinity is a big number, and there are also infinite versions of myself being a girl and getting it on with you and Julie at the same time. How does that make me feel about that? Well, I don't think about it, and you shouldn't either."
Camilla stopped and kept staring at his work. "Do you think alternate lives matter? It's like seeing a version of the future if we make certain choices then that future will come to be."
*sigh* "They don't matter. They aren't us, there is an infinite possibility out there. But this world doesn't have infinite potential." Alex explained to her, trying to keep her from looking too much into things. "For example, there will be worlds where we are in love and worlds where we hate each other.” Alex clarified, trying to help Camilla overcome her mental dilemma. Because after all this, they were still kinda friends. He didn’t want their relationship to get worse. “Also you should drop that backward mentality you have. Even after two thousand years, you haven't stopped thinking about the world you used to previously live in and think of yourself as that person. You are no longer just an office worker, Camilla. Look around you.”
As soon as he said that, Camilla's eyes widened and she suddenly chuckled. “Kahahaha~ Alex, Alex, Alex~”
She called out his name rhythmically and this made him frown. Camilla wasn’t exactly in her most stable mentality right now, so he didn’t want to test just how crazy she could get. “I hope you aren’t thinking of kidnapping and taking me if I was your dog.”
Alex had hit the bull’s eye as Camilla’s look turned even crazier. “I think I might fall for you, Alex! So become mine!”
People stopped and looked at her strangely, but the world around them turned gray and Camilla stopped too. Looking around them, seemingly having calmed down and once again starting to think logically again. “Time Magic? Time stop?!”
She was shocked by this, it wasn’t something that could be done by someone under the Immortal Rank. But Alex nodded and smiled gently at her. “Camilla, if you act like a mad dog, I will put you down like one.”
Immediately her body clenched and she felt something that she hadn’t felt in a long time and that was absolute fear. She “saw” through her ability. Countless Alex’s stop moving through the multiverse and they were staring at her. Something that should be impossible.
“You look… no, who are you?” asked Camilla, she had wanted to ask him this question for a long time but hadn’t done so. She had wanted to keep him within his comfort zone, but she couldn’t comprehend how someone could do something like this. “You are from the modern world or are you something more.”
“You will probably figure it out with time,” said Alex, a small smirk adorning his face as he noticed that Camilla had calmed down. “You are an intelligent girl. So make sure you don’t die before you figure me out. Okay?”
“Fuck,” she swore, though Camilla felt frustrated. For some reason, she couldn’t comprehend that she also felt excited. “I thought I could feel safe against people like you by now. But it seems like I must continue getting stronger.”
“Of course,” Alex nodded as if it was the most obvious thing. “If you don’t continue advancing then you won’t be anything special. There was a time when even Legendary Rank was thought to be impossible. The Immortal Rank is the same, so don’t stop or others will catch up and surpass you. You opened the dam, now water will come gushing out.”
Alex never had the notion of the Immortal Rank being something unattainable for long. Soon enough, people should start appearing with similar power. Just knowing that it existed was enough to increase someone's chances of attaining it. Of course, it would still be something rare, but not something so unattainable after a dozen thousand years.
This assumption was made that humanity somehow survives until then.
“Yeah, that explanation makes sense,” Camilla agreed. “Then how about the serpent’s eye?”
“I don’t know what you are talking about,” Alex acted ignorantly. But he walked around the city with her following along his tail like a little duckling.
She narrowed her eyes and her tongue extended like a serpent and wrapped around the cotton candy, bringing it into her mouth in one fellow swoop. “I know you know what I am talking about,”
*sigh* “I saved your life, can’t you just let me keep all of this to myself?” Alex said regretfully, unwilling to give any part of the eye of the serpent that had broken through the Mortal realm barrier. That was such useful material that he wouldn’t be able to get his hands on even later.
Sure, he might not need more than 10% of the snake eye parts than he had right now. But Alex didn’t know if he would need the rest in the future. Better have it and not need it, then need it and don’t have it. Plus he wasn’t someone weak enough to give anything to Camilla just because she asked about it.
They were both grown-ups and knew that nothing was free in this world. Camila knew that Alex wouldn’t give it to her unless he got the better end of the deal. Someone like him wouldn’t settle for something of equal worth. Honestly, Camilla didn’t have anything that was of that level, she had God Cores, but knew that Alex didn’t need those.
Suddenly she got an idea and smirked. “How about I help you take care of the Beast Emperor.”
Alex stopped his work and looked at her in surprise. “Are you mentally challenged?”
