The Game of a Blood Mage

Chapter 107: Death, Blood, and Carnage

***
Alex looked at the many people in front of him and he took a deep breath, his lungs expanded unnaturally and all of the air in the room was sucked into him. His body started getting bigger and morphing, two lumps started raising on his head and broke the skin, showing to be two horns made of a dark substance, his body elongated and he seemed like a shadowy eldritch figure.

He had transformed into his true form, a Night Crawler, a being of horror that not even vampires would dare come in contact with him.

[Legendary Soul Class Magic: Soul Shock]

Normally this spell would attack someone’s soul and weaken them considerably. But what he was attacking right now were ghosts and they had no physical body to protect them, before they could even scream, their existences were scattered and gathered into a silver magic circle.

[Legendary Soul Class Magic: Soul Forge]

One by one, the scattered souls were forged into Legendary Artifacts that countries would go to war for. The other souls were scared and if they had been alive, even in a one vs one scenario Alex would have had to be careful with some of them and even then would have some difficulty fighting them. But now that wasn’t the truth anymore, because as ghosts, they were essentially roaming souls and Alex was a Soul Mage.

Their screams rang out loud as they tried to resist the effects.

“W -Wait!!”

“Young man! Stop! I have information on the Heavenly Valley!”

“Please-”

Alex didn’t listen to any of that, knowing that it was just empty words they were saying to stay alive. Everyone begged before their death and would say anything to survive, but this wasn’t something that they would hold on to. Even if they did, Alex wasn’t willing to risk it with these people. Even if they knew something, he doubted any of them could surpass the knowledge millions of players had worked hard to discover.

Not even five minutes later, all of the ghosts were destroyed, amongst them were some who had been at the peak of Legendary Rank. But the overwhelming advantage a Soul Mage had against ghosts, elementals and other spiritual beings was insurmountable. They were masters of souls that reigned over life and death.

He smiled as he looked at the dark palm-sized pyramid in the altar and grabbed it. Immediately it got absorbed and it formed into a dark triangle tattoo in his hand. This was called the Pyramid of Todesgott. An ancient artifact that had many hidden functions that allowed it to become one of the strongest items on this side of the world.

Even Alex only knew a few of its functions. But that already made it a very useful item, especially since the Pyramid of Todesgott was perfectly suited for a Soul Mage like him and would strengthen his abilities.

With a swipe of his hand, the weapons that were forged out of the Legendary Rank souls floated, and with a casual flicker of his finger, Alex moved them towards the ceiling.

BOOOOOM!!

Each of them had a Legendary Rank ability that could essentially be used without reproduction, a perfect item that even one of them would make a user stronger and increase a Legendary Rank Warrior’s power twofold.

Looking up, Alex was able to gaze at the sun and he smiled in relief. Now he had all of the components needed, and right now he was ready to finally start a war. He knew that he had been selfish in his choices because if he had helped the Holy Kingdom, that would have been the highest possible change that could lead to a victory.

But even if they somehow won, what about after the war? The Holy Kingdom would be the one in power and Alex will be just another servant to the Gods. True, many more people might be saved, and countless lives of adults and children alike would have been spared with that collaboration. The Holy Kingdom didn’t treat its people badly either.

But for Alex, he didn’t care about other people and was mostly concerned with his benefits. So what if he saved thousands of people? He would have to sacrifice his power and freedom for it, and that wasn’t something he would give up even if the world was destroyed.

This had been a gamble on Alex’s part, a gamble where he could walk out of and abandon humanity if it didn’t work out. But it was a gamble nonetheless.

***
Another week passed in the blink of an eye and the beast army destroyed anything in their path, creating a trail of blood wherever they went. There was no mercy against the humans and even though the Beast Emperor wasn’t leading them, they were doing pretty good.

Most of the Wayne Kingdom sects and Legendary ranks, by now the Legendary Rank powerhouses that humanity had left were under twenty. Alex didn’t mind that as this way it would decrease his rivals.

Alex was in a new body with silver hair and red eyes that looked just like the previous one, and he stood atop the clouds, looking down at the beast army that had gathered together past a couple of mountains away from the Soul Sect.

But what he was concentrating on the most was a large nine-tailed fox that was the size of a mountain and strangely a human amongst the beasts that seemed to be leading them. These guys were the most troublesome parts of the beast army.

‘It seems like they left behind the weaker Rank 1 and Rank 2 bests. Only using the stronger ones that can travel fast. This way they will be able to take on humanity fast and before most of them are even prepared.’ - Alex contemplated, and he couldn’t help but praise such a strategy, it was comparable to the strategies Napoleon would use in his younger years.

Napoleon was the kind of guy who was never defeated in direct battle when he was leading an army. Of course, he had lost some wars, but there was only one strategy that had worked against Napoleon, and Alex would only use it as a last resort but knew that it would be too costly for him.

Scorched earth and running away, were the only two strategies that worked against Napoleon. Just don’t fight him, until his army got tired enough and was left without supplies.
Alex’s army had gathered too and it comprised a hundred thousand troops. Though he outnumbered the beast 4 to 1, they had quality while he had quantity. Then again, when it came to Legendary Rank, the beasts had just quantity.

The battle could go each way, but Alex didn't keep on giving up at all and planned to see things through to the end.

**
It didn’t take long for both armies' scouts to have some small skirmishes. In each skirmish, a dozen of Alex's troops died, while only one or two beasts died, and in each of them, the beasts won.

While it might seem like it was Alex’s loss, in reality, that is from it as what he lost were just golems that he could recreate without too much difficulty. The beasts had traveled from the Holy Kingdom to her so they were tired and needed to rest, sadly for them, nowhere around Soul Sect was any food to be eaten. After all, even monsters needed to eat.

So in the end, the beast army gathered and got ready to attack the Soul Sect. Somewhat of a reckless decision, but it was something that they had no choice but to do. Alex stood atop his mighty walls that seemed to reach as high as a mountain. He looked down at the beast army that had gathered and smiled, thousands of mages had gathered on the wall too and so he gave one simple command.

“Fire.”

That was when mages started using a basic spell called {fireball} and just like that, the sky turned red, as the clouds seemed to burn. The air became scorchingly hot and the ground seemed to crackle as it turned into molten rock.

At first, it seemed like it was from the heat of the fireballs that the mages were throwing. But a man who looked like a human amongst the beast army transformed into a gray werewolf, with silver-like fur.

The ground rose as if a volcano was about to burst out of nowhere, but instead, the head of a boar bruised through. Boiling lava came out of its teeth as its red eyes stared towards the beast army.

“Pork, incinerate,” Alex's voice rang out, confusing everyone, even his allies. But the fiery boar that seemed to be in flames seemed to understand as it took a deep breath and a very dangerous suction force appeared as the pig swelled like a balloon and couldn't move as it kept looking towards the beast army. Then it opened its mouth as fire seemed to seep out of it.

BOOOOOOOM!!!

A beam of fire exploded out of its mouth, incinerating everything in front of it as it headed straight towards the beast army and was about to hit its target.

A/N: I just had a dawning realization recently… during the pandemic… it seems like I had forgotten everything I had learned.

P.S: Thankfully tutorial videos exist.
