It's the most accurate high school movie in terms of how high school bullying actually works, probably because it was based off a non-fiction book written by a psychologist who studied how young girls actually talk to each other. . All the animosity is sneaky and under the table. Passive aggressiveness. Saying, “come to the mall with me. But don’t tell Gretchen. I don’t want her to come.” “Forgetting” to invite Karen to that party.. Also, if you think about it, Janis is just as much a mean girl as Regina. She's manipulative and a hypocrite. It's just glossed over because she's "not like other girls" and/or doesn't dress/behave in the stereotypical hyper-feminine like The Plastics.
