it's so interesting seeing people watch this for the first time because hannibal would have never hurt clarice but many people feel he will. he cares for clarice and her well being (ie: why he made miggs kill himself). so regardless of how much she opened up to him he wouldn't have hurt her. i recommend doing some research on the film and look into it a bit after watching, its such an interesting film with so much depth. such an incredible film and anthony hopkins and jodi foster did such an incredible job, well deserved oscar best picture win. oh and some theories for the end! my first theory is hannibal followed dr.chilton to bimini in the bahamas and chilton is the "friend he's having for dinner", and he does this because of the treatment he received in the baltimore asylum. my other theory is hannibal and chilton were working together the entire time. one of my reasons i feel this also may be true is because when clarice takes another visit hannibal's cell chilton stops and atgues with her the reasons why she is there for another visit (which are classified by the FBI). he seemed nervous and irritated making it seem he doesn't want clarice to find out he's working with hannibal. i believe the first theory most but the second theory is definitely an interesting one.
