The Deep Dive

Hi everybody! Did you know that your Patreon pledge will help provide women and children with educational and employment opportunities that offer a sustainable, empowered livelihood?

Before we get into the art posts, I wanted to say thank you again for joining my Patreon. It means a lot to have early support, and the initial momentum helps make the campaign exciting for others to join! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for joining me on this long journey. I "briefly" wanted to go into specifics of the campaign for maximum transparency, without cluttering the pitch page.

Who: Most of you already know who I am, but not necessarily why I am starting this Patreon. To go into further detail -

Why: I started my education in political science and human rights with an interest in international humanitarian law, and ended up with a career in art, which I love. I've always had an interest in learning about other cultures and wanting to help others that need it in places around the world. Growing up Asian-American, I firmly believe that  fostering cross-cultural understanding is important to human kindness and world peace.

Through this campaign I hope to explore that cross-cultural connection and help bridge the communication gap between nonprofits and the rest of the world. To do that, I hope to work with Photographers Without Borders at least once a year. This is impossible to do with just personal savings along with my own cost of living. With the help of Patreon I hope to make it financially feasible to work with this nonprofit, and maybe more? Who knows!

What: Photographers Without Borders is an organization that recognizes storytelling is a crucial component for any nonprofit or NGO to get their message across in today's world.  While many of you are familiar with my photography work, the truth is that I never received formal education. The first goal for this Patreon is to be able to attend a workshop (Photographers Without Borders School) that will both help hone my camera and visual storytelling skills, and also work with  Sambhali Trust, an organization that is dedicated to promoting unity, independence and self-esteem amongst Indian women.

PWB School is the a photography education experience that prepares storytellers to make real change in an ethical way. With various locations to choose from every year, and a different partner NGO for each class, the stories are never-ending. Proceeds from the workshop I aim to attend will help provide women and children with educational and employment opportunities that offer a sustainable, empowered livelihood.

Where: The workshop will take place in India.

When: The aim to attend this workshop is in October of 2019. If we cannot meet this goal, I will attempt another workshop with another nonprofit in 2020.

Whew! Thanks for getting through all that with me. I wanted to be as transparent as possible so that ya'll know what you're getting into!

Have a great week!
Jenn

PS - apologies for sending out 2 separate e-mails! I deleted the first post because I forgot to include the video. Still learning how to Patreon!
