Added 2021-03-11 01:41:20 +0000 UTCsorry this is so late, it got blocked 5 times, so i kept having to lower the opacity of the screen, i'll try to figure something out for the subtitles when the screen is lowered cause i assuming most of you aren't fluent in japanese. i edited this with a headache today cause we watched the atla finale and cried for 2 hours straight so how fun. we're very exicted to start this show, we've only seen two episodes but it looks promising so far

So much nostalgia going back and rewatching the beginning. That ending of episode 1 is so tragic and gruesome I had second thoughts about continuing the show but I'm so glad I did and later read the manga because I cannot wait until Season 4 part2 to find out the rest of their journey

I have watched some AOT reactions and actually think the english dub is pretty fine, obviously cannot be compare with the original dub (japanese dub is amazing! there're scenes that get me chills every time). But the main reason I don't think it is necessary is that they are used to watch sub, anime or not. They are serbians watching and talking in english... English isn't even their first language anyway.They watched La casa de papel in the original language and it was fine. I watched AOT with subs (there weren't dub in my language at the time) and I didn't miss any information. If we were talking about americans used to have everything avaiabale in their own language I would agree with you. But in their case I don't think sub is a problem at all.

2021-03-11 19:57:02 +0000 UTCI agree with all of your counter arguments lol, I only watch sub too. But I think there can be exceptions for when people should watch dub. But whatever, I'm pretty sure they won't switch and i'm sure us fans will clarify anything for them if they miss something.

The idea that sacraficing the incredible voice acting (one of the best parts of the show) just to make exposition slightly easier to understand baffles me.

2021-03-11 07:23:37 +0000 UTCi always believed that watchin a show in its original language is 99% the best way. ofc this is still just an opinion but its true that alot of shows simply work better in their og language bcuz it was made to fit that language/culture. for example, anime have alot of japanese culture references(for obvious reasons) and alot of the time, the stuff simply dont make sense when spoken out loud in english or feels off. ofc this doesnt apply to every show. most shows that are popular among the western audience (DBZ, naruto, bleach, death note, mha) are usually fine in english as opposed to something like monogatari (which doesnt even have a dub due to the reasons i stated above). Aot fits under the dub could work tab but as I said, usually the og language is better. Like i aint gonna recommend someone watch avatar in japanese when the english acting was on point.

2021-03-11 05:46:18 +0000 UTCI'm not big on the sub vs dub debate, but aot is the one show that I will say is inferior if you watch the dub. I usually dont mind dub for some shows but some of the voice acting is objectively bad, and the sub just has so much more emotion imo

Since you two are fairly new to Anime and this Anime in particular throws a lot of information at its audience the dub might be a better experience. Just a thought
