The theory is that the pollution blocked the river spirit from showing up. So by cleaning the river the Gaang cleansed the area and allowed the Painted Lady to show up! Thought you guys might appreciate that idea.

I personally feel that there are no fillers except the great divide of course🤣 I always took this as showing the fire nation is willing to hurt their own people to further their “glory”. So not everyone in the fire nation is bad, some are victims just like Zuko.

When Hei Bei’s forest is destroyed its close to the solstice which blurs the line between the spirit world and their world. So Hei Bei was able to rampage. At least that’s how I thought it worked

Yea I think the polluted river = weakened spirit is the headcanon for most. But when Hei Bei's forest was destroyed and burnt down, they weren't weakened they were angry and on a rampage. So idk, headcanon is nice but doesn't line up in the story xD Painted Lady just petty smh😂😂

Epitome of a filler episode. From 3x6 on, it really hits it's stride.

It’s a good question, some viewers/fans have speculated that the real painted lady couldn’t appear/help because the river was polluted. It’s common in Asian folklore where if a river spirit’s home river is polluted it weakens their powers.
