Breaking Bad 5x04 Reaction

Breaking Bad 5x04 Reaction

Absolutely disagree with this take from Ahmed and Dylan. That is who Walter White WAS. Remember, Lola and Milena loved Walter. But Walter changed. Walter's thinking and actions change. Jfc think about the decisions he's about to make in the future, regarding prisoners. like seriously. Walt isn't who he was. They aren't just "hating on him" too much. They are seeing how he evolved into this cruel cruel monster.

Skyler is so badass this season. Never got the hate against her at all. But the way she stands up to Walt here is great.

Podey Williams

Also disagree. Most killers graduate to killing, but start off doing smaller crimes. Obviously Walt had a hard time killing someone in the beginning, because it was so NEW to him. But his Ego and his Pride carved his path from the very beginning, and those are what give life to Heisenberg. He is where he is purely because of those qualities. If he weren't so proud, he would have just accepted money from Elliott and Gretchen, and Breaking Bad could have been avoided.

ODIS

Disagree, he was like that in season one. His attitude toward killing and doing terrible things may have changed, but the core aspect of Heisenberg is his pride and ego, his desire to feel powerful. Season one is full of moments where you see those aspects of him appear

With regards to whether Walt is consciously aware of how miserable Skylar is: I think he definitely is. He just actually, truly believes that she is being over dramatic. He actually believes that now that he is in charge, they aren't in danger and that everything he did was justifiable and for the the greater good of his family. He has his head so far up his own ass that he thinks that if he just acts like a pleasant, loving husband, she will eventually come around and see it the way he does.

Thank you for writing this. Too many people like to conveniently forget that Walt did have an alternative in the form of Gretchen and Elliott. Whatever shitty thing they may (or may not, it's not exactly explicitly revealed) have to done to Walt in the past, if he truly cared for his family, he would have accepted their offer instead of letting his pride get in the way. He would have had money for his treatment, for his family, and more time to spend with his family. So many of the things people use to justify Walt's actions are rendered irrelevant by the fact that this was even an option available to him.

I definitely agree that this darkness was inside Walter the entire time. As much as people talk about how this only happened because Walter was pushed into a corner they conveniently forget that he actually wasn't pushed into a corner. Gretchen and Elliott offered to pay for his entire cancer treatment at the beginning and even offered him a high paying job where he would be earning enough to leave money behind. And if he had died from the cancer I think it's likely that Gretchen and Elliott would have offered to create a college fund for his two children. Walter's ego would not allow him to do what was best for his family then and throughout this series.

you don't have to believe us but we don't hate walter, we're just disgusted at everything he does at this point and that may come across as hatred to you but we dont.. what we wanted to say in regards to him being heisenberg always was that he had ti have had that inside of him cause few people would be able to go and thrive in this world no matter how much life pushes you, and Walt thrives here so there must be something in him that might have never come out had he never gotten cancer.. no one denies that he loves his family (and jessie) but what does that love mean in the end when he is willing to manipulate them and put them in danger while putting his wants first

Dylan

Not really. The mistake is letting your hatred for Walt skew the character. Like saying he was always Heisenberg deep down, that's clearly not true at all. Yes he is doing this because he likes it, doesn't mean he doesn't still love his family. But a lot of people (let's be honest, female reactors), have this hatred for Walt where anything he says or does it attacked as evil, just because of a bias hatred for him. That part is annoying because the character is much deeper than that.

Dylan

F in the chat for how much hate you’ll get when this gets put on YouTube, liking skylar or seeing her perspective is like the biggest mistake unfortunately from most BB fans :/

Adam

free skylar until it’s backwards

RH

I definitely dont think Walt was always this way deep down, he has been changed by his experiences.

Drew

Ya they don't quite grasp Walter's character fully because of their hatred for him at the moment.

Dylan

Sorry if double posted - I think I accidentally deleted original. Lola, at the 33:35 mark, you touch on an idea that I didn't really pick up on until Season 5, Ep 13 (Rabid Dog) of my SECOND watch of the show, that I've never heard anyone else discuss. It's the idea of a cosmic fate/karma/etc. I won't spoil anything, but there is a line spoken by one of the characters in that upcoming episode that made me reexamine the whole series. There are so many points in this show (some that you've already seen, and some that you haven't seen yet) where the odds of Walter's plans being successful are astronomical, yet he continues to "win." So many things happen to Walt that are not in his control, and so many things happen BECAUSE of Walt and his decisions, which ripple throughout the show and affect so many other people. It makes me wonder if that in this universe, was it Walt's fate to disrupt this entire meth industry? On one hand, at this point in the show, he's clearly not moving anywhere near the amount of product that Gus was. On the other, his actions have directly led to the deaths of hundreds of people (plane crash) so far. You could also argue that if it weren't for Heisenberg, the DEA may have never caught on to Gus at all. But then again, our boy Hank is on the case. I don't know if Vince Gilligan intended the viewer to ask these questions, but in my opinion he did, because he does seem to be a pretty brilliant writer. This truly is the best written show I've ever personally watched. I still enjoy discussing it all these years later. Can't wait to watch you two react to the rest of the show. (And also Milena, in your reaction to Season 2, Ep 13, when Jane's dad is looking for a dress to bury Jane in, you spotted the bear drawn on her wall. I've never noticed that detail until you pointed it out. And if you'll notice, she's drawn the bear falling, with Saturn drawn right next to it. This ties in perfectly with the idea of cosmic fate, because later in the episode, Walt is wearing a pink sweater that matches the bear, a color we've never seen him wear up to that point.)

I don't agree with you on Walter White Being Heisenberg Deep down, He was not like that at ALL.. not even close, do you remember how he was searching for every reason not to kill krazy8.. and he was about to let him loose until he discovered he was going to kill him. Review him back.. he literally changed 180 degree. ..and every season he changes more and become more dead inside out..

One thing about Hanks promotion to Assistant Special Agent in Charge (ASAC). Dean Norris accidently spoiled that for you in his lovely message to you two right after season 3 episode 7. He refers to Hank as ASAC. But only in this episode he gets the title.

Slaizio

That scene with skyler and walter in the bedroom is one of my favs, terrifyingly beautyful. The pool symbolizes the meth business (blue meth) and that skyler is 'drowning' like she mentioned to her laywer in season 3 episode 5. Where she felt like she was drowning. She feels stuck and helpless. Going into the pool was a cry for help. Thats how I interpret it.

Slaizio

Really good episode. I love these. Can't wait for the next one!
