What's important is leaving subtitles on either way. But you both know that already. We like to hear your commentary during the shows, and you don't want to miss important dialogue. (I liked the dub *very* much. Same with AOT. I don't know Japanese - like the huge bulk of non-Japanese anime fans - and I want to enjoy the art. Unless the dub is bad, I don't understand wanting to watch it with subtitles if you're watching on your own. But like I said, it's important for you both to use subtitles being you're a reaction channel and you don't want to miss anything.)

I understand that the dub is really good, but the sub is just perfect. As someone who watched both versions i can say that the sub is far superior. Every show should be watched in its original language, sometimes the dub can be really good but it will never be better than the original.

For a first time viewing, and for native English speakers, dub is a lot easier for focusing on plot and tone of voices, and its less likely for them to miss dialogue if they’re focusing on what’s happening rather than what’s being said

Dub is decent, but the voice acting in the sub is just 10/10 perfect. Again though, its a decent dub. Just simply not as good and riveting as the sub. Its not FMAB where the dub easily outshines the sub (if you guys ever watch it, it has to be dub! Legitimately the best dub to ever exist. Its far better than sub.) Some series are a must watch dub, and i just dont think death note is one of them. It's a decent dub though. 👌 Better than sub though? No

The dub is good, one of the better ones, and this from someone that always prefers the subs in all my anime. BUT the acting in this one is too good on the Japanese side. It's a classic to be seen first in the original language, there is no comparison, Mamoru Miyano delivers one of the most iconic performances of one of the most iconic characters in all the history of anime.

"Immersion" is a person by person basis, there no point throwing out arbitrary numbers. How are hearing and understanding the words less immersive anyway? Because with DN, you're reading a lot of dialogue so it can be difficult to follow along. And as for "what the director wanted", I can almost guarantee they've never said anything like that lol. Sub is great for these two as they fully get into the show in their reactions, unlike most reactors. The sub gives them 100% immersion as that is how the director wanted it and not an American interpretation.

For me, if a show is live action it’s always sub, but for animated shows half of the fun is looking at the art, and if the audio is in a language I don’t understand than idc how good it is, I prefer to be able to watch the art and it helps you relate to drawn characters if you can understand what they’re saying. Some dubs are shitty though. This one’s ok, but I prefer some when it’s extremely well done, like in FMAB or DBZ. If you say either of those are bad then you’re just arguing in bad faith because they’re objectively good. But it’s fine if you don’t t like them. It’s not about which is better, that’s entirely opinion based, it’s just whichever each person prefers. So I support them doing a poll like this on every anime in the future. It’s the best way to do it

Dub people are always funny as hell. They always say "Dubs are usually bad but this one is actually good!" about every damn show. As someone that has watched sub+dub for quite a lot of shows at this point, dub voice actors are like 80% of the time worse than the sub ones, even in the shows that supposedly are "good dubs".

Unlike AoT, I believe Death Note has a good dub. I'd say do whichever you prefer for this one and don't leave it totally up to us since you can't really go wrong either way. I think some purists will choose sub no matter what, but sometimes the dub is worth it if it's good and it's easier for you.

Two words for you. Cowboy. Bebop. But seriously though, Death Note is almost equally good Dub or Sub. I have watched the series through in both. Contextually, the Japanese Dub makes more sense, since the show takes place in Japan. As for missing stuff, I think it is clear that they both do a good job following along whether reading or listening in English. They're not likely to miss many details.

DBZ is a classic, love it. Forgot to mention it but dubs with very few exceptions fail, it's understandable bc many voice actors work on cartoons -- so things like subtly aren't required and very few cartoons deal with serious subject matter, so bringing emotions that aren't over-the-top or comedic is a challenge. The final thing I'd say is that dub voice acting always sticks out, even If it isn't bad per say -- it just gets in the way of the story I'm trying to watch, it's distracting IMO.

It honestly depends on how you guys watch it, if you guys wanna talk and make comments while watching the show, then sub is preferred. That way you don't miss any important details the characters are saying without subtitles. With subtitles, even if you guys are talking and making comments, you can read what's on the screen and not miss details.

Nah, liking something over another subjective, and everyone is free to prefer X rather than Y. But there we are talking about denaturing the original work, with all his codes and other things attached at the culture from where it was done. This is about respect. Once again, you and others can prefer a different language, this is your right, and no one can denied it. For exemple, I'm French, and we are lucky to have realy good voice actor, my best exemple is South Park, who is pretty godly with french dub, yet i will always watch it in VO 1st before re watching it in french later on. My point is that we should Always watch in original voice, so many things are also lost in translation, but for that, unless you know the language, you can't do to much expect reading things about it online. That what I'm trying to say, I don't intend at all to tell to people what to like over something, but to try to "educate", event if I'm not to fond of what this word imply, people on trying to be at least respectful to original work. Watching dub is a very English thing, and other big countries using worldwide used language, like French or Spanish, and I find this so sad to discover content in their original language. Lola & Milena, are neither of theses country and seems very open to the different culture, wich I link in them and that's why, I think they should not event have taken or preferences on this matter, and do like they always do, in VO.

I didn't understand that at all either. In the last poll, for example, Jujutsu Kaisen was there. That's not their show at all. That's like recommending Sailor Moon to my grim grandfather. Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood is practically made for them. And the fact that the anime short series Erased didn't even find a place in the poll.... The two are incredibly emotional when it comes to suffering characters. I would really like to see their reaction here. And Erased is also very high up in many top lists with FMAB.

Selfishly, I'm kinda saddened to see subs winning. I only watch your BCS reactions, typically on a second screen while I work - something I can't do with a subbed show. But again, I realize that's my problem. I'll just have to set aside a dedicated time to watch.

I really just went through several scenes: The main characters work very well in both. Sometimes I find the English version better, sometimes the Japanese version. With the dub, however, I noticed that the dubbing actors for the female side characters don't really match the original dubbing. Another thing in favour of the sub: the names. No series is more about names than this one, and reading them makes them easier to remember. Moreover, characters from abroad also appear in the series. Here I find it pleasant to hear an accent or simply the foreign language. In addition, as a reaction viewer, you can also read what was said in the scene, if you are talking about something. Edit: Forget everything I said. The chip scene in English is so much more awesome :D

The dub is extremely good and it’ll be easier to understand I believe. I mean of course if it’s sub then I won’t mind but I do think the dub voices, especially for one of the characters, sounds great! Either way they’ll both provide good experiences

I've seen both. It really doesn't matter they both are amazing. Sub matches their voices more in my opinion. Dub has some better executed scenes though. So pretty much whatever you decide it will be very good.

I prefer the dub but you should know since you often watch with subtitles on, the English subtitles often don't match what the dub VA is saying which can be very distracting.
