So the irony that I thought about after this episode is that Marley manifested the devils of their own nightmares: They treated the people of paradise like devils when they weren't. BUT the hardships Marley forced upon the Eldians of paradise, hardened them so much, that now they have become the devils Marley was always afraid they were.

Hey girls, great reaction, I just want to add that the world has always asked Eren to bear the brunt of its salvation, since Grisha forces him to be the founding titan until even Armin, in season 1, tells him that he has to abandon all his humanity to save everyone, and then they are surprised that he acts like that when they did it themselves to him in some way, I agree with you, Eren is the best and most complex character in the show

The problem is how they know Levi's last name. Big difference here... Somehow I doubt the Marleyan's would never let Eldians have peace even if they got the founding titan by killing Eren. As we know they already had plans for Paradis and to suddenly just let them go and be at peace especially after this attack and Willy's speech which was basically done to turn the whole world against the people of Paradis. Honestly all I see happening in that scenario is Marley (maybe with the support of the armies of the world) going with their original plans, proceeding to completely annihilate the people of Paradis and then taking the island's resources. All while making it seem like they were the heroes and saved the world. All that was stopping them from doing it before was the war with Middle East Alliance and the risk of Rumbling but in this hypothetical scenario there is no risks for Marley (and the world) to go all in and take over Paradis completely.

@Rinne Yeah I realized that mistake as well. The solution would be to give each Titan a proper name, like from the Mythologies like Cronos or Atlas etc. Not saying giving these exact names, but Isayama could've made up some names for them (although Ymir actually exists in Nordic Mythology). Marleyans would call them by their Mythology names and our guys would keep calling them by their Armored, Colossal etc.

Oh well sure I agree that the face might look worse, or that the Colossal titan being a lot darker might be a bad change. I was confused because you said the scene would confuse them but even the original face was something we hadnt seen before so I'd say its just as confusing. Also I'd argue that the redone scenes, Erens glowing eye, Falcos face and others that were changed by far outweight the bad change on Reiners face so go blu-ray. :D

Im sure Zeke just assumed Levi is Ackerman and confirmed by asking Reiner and him not knowing Levi's last name. However there is a similar *plot hole* about this show. The Paradis people named the titans attacking them by their EXACT names by some chance. Colossal, Armored, Female and Beast. Ofcourse this is done to not confuse the hell out of the audience upon the Marley reveal, however its still unrealistic that they wouldnt just call them (for example) Humungous Titan, Monkey Titan etc..

This has nothing to do with the episode, but in general with the world of Attack on Titan, which is unfortunately never explained in the anime (or only on a trivia screen): On the island of Paradise grows the so-called Iron Bamboo. This is a plant that extracts iron from ferrous soil and binds it in the bamboo as it grows. This enabled the people inside the walls to produce large quantities of a metal-like material. They also use this for the 3D ODM gear. It is a very strong, hard but also light material. Important: very light metal.

I have one minor nitpick about this episode: How come the Marleyan side know that Levi is an Ackerman. Levi himself learned his last name in the middle of season 3, so it's impossible for Reiner, Bert or Zeke to know about this and pass that information. But other than that, it's cool to see when Marleyan side shout out "OMG he's an Ackerman, runnn!!" Or maybe they knew about the Ackermans and since he's the best soldier on a godly, almost supernatural level that they assumed he's an Ackerman, who knows..

I'd like to add that, Eren did not do all of this. King Fritz kept this one sided peace since he believed Eldians cannot be atoned and just let the incoming Titans to "enclose" them. Rumbling cannot be activated as well too. But it reached Marley and the Tyburs, that the Founding Titan was stolen. For the first time, the Tyburs felt there's a threat, that Rumbling could happen any moment, because it's not under the ruling "royal" family/blood. Willy simply sealed the fate for the rest of them by declaring war.

I told you they were gonna play with your feelings in this season, and this is the begging...

i can't say i think much about his character, sure what he said at the funeral he was in his full right to say and there was truth there. never hated him for it..we've seen 8 episodes of season 4 and so far all that he is doing is saying that the people they're killing deserve to die, do i understand how he came to think this was, of course, do i agree with him, no fucking chance.. we'll see where his story goes

I would like to talk about a specific point you made after watching the episode, why would Marley just keep sending titans to paradis and not just leave them alone ? (Ofc this is my understanding of the story until this point, feel free to correct me if I makes mistakes). So just as we learn in the previous episode, Marleyans thought the war ended in a very different way that the way it actually came to an end. For Marleyans, helos and the tybur pushed the eldians off the continent and « locked them off » on the island, they were not aware at all of the actions of king fritz nor the vow renouncing war until last episode. So in their view, eldians on paradise were most likely just bloodthirsty people preparing their revenge for their loss in the war several decades ago, probably with the restoration of their former empire in mind. That’s why Marley was so desperate to take back the founding titan (and sent multiple pure titans + formed the warriors squad) because it would’ve garantee their safety from the infamous « rumbling ». On top of that you also have to consider the cycle of violence between the world (specifically Marley) and eldians and the fear that they (eldians) inspire (of course us, as spectators knows the paradis eldians pretty well but who wouldn’t be afraid of people who could turn into 15 meters man eating monsters when the conditions are met ?) that only added fuel to the already burning fire. Of course this doesn’t justify the horrible treatment eldians received on the continent. The situation as the whole is a tragedy from all sides and at this point, considering the asymmetrie of information from both sides and all the others elements, war was pretty much inevitable unfortunately. Apart from that great reaction as always, I always loved Reiner, especially since 2x6 and all the warriors and warriors candidates introduced at the beginning of season 4 alongside magath really grew on me so I just couldn’t pick a side when I saw this episode !

I would like to explain and in some way, justify the plan of Willy Tybur and commander Magath: In episode 3 of this season, Willy and Magath had two very vague conversations about their major goal and what they plan to do to achieve that. First, Magath in that conversation, said "I was inform some rats are in the house". Both of them already knew the enemies are secretly planning an attack, but under a situation with lack of information, they didn't know when, where, and how the attack is coming and who else are helping them. This is why at the end of episode 2, all the Titan shifters are being spied on; which also lead to the self-sacrifice of Willy Tybur. If he could not figure out when, where, and how the attack is coming, he can at least make a use of this attack and unify the whole world by creating a scene of "an unseen attack" from the "devil of the world". But the question must have raised: why did he choose this plan? Why does he think this will lead the world to a brighter future? Well, this all leads to the essential conflict of this world: the power of Titan. As long as this power exist, Eldians will be used for weapons, and creating horror to other races. Horror will create hate, and hate will lead more Eldians being used in wars. Here comes the first plan in the season of solving the problem, Willy's plan: Unite the world to see Eldians outside of paradise island are not evil; reform Marley's military by killing all the military leaders and replacing Eldian soldiers with higher technologies so that the cycle of fear and hatred of Titan power will eventually fade away. And last, killing every Eldians on paradise island because they are already planning an attack. However, this plan is not perfect. First, as long as Eldians reproduce, the titan power will inherit. Because of that, even if the rest of the Eldians will be accepted by the world, they still has to be put in check so that the number of Eldians will not increase. Remember, even if Eldians mate with another race that is not Eldian, their child will still be Eldian because the child will inherit the power of turning into Titans. What's more problematic, is that his way of ending the cycle of hatred is creating a new subject for people to hate on. If the rest of the world will not be able to slaughter every single person on paradis, that will simply make the situation of the world in a more dangerous place. I would like to thank you and anyone who read till the end for reading very long comment. I hope this will clarify something for you.

so the idea was that, because they know Paradis is a huge threat, they want to get the entire planet, every major nation, on one side of a world war between Paradis and everyone else. They essentially organized a terrorist attack by bringing reporters, military personnel, etc. to one spot to allow them to be killed on camera in front of the whole world. Imagine if the United States brought all their senators, all their top military personnel, plus hundreds of reporters and ambassadors of the world together in one spot and someone bombed the venue and killed everyone on live TV. Willy chose to sacrifice his life to allow the nations of the world to rise up in outrage and declare war against Eldia, and it worked to a high degree. Now with this attack, the world sees Paradis as a terrorist group, an enemy that needs to be dealt with

Magath and Willy both saw that Marley is on a path of self destruction and they wanted to reform Marley under Magath’s vision if I understood correctly. Magath wished to Reform the Marley military and instate conscription for marleyans which would make things more equal between the normal Marley and eldian soldier. Also give many more soldiers for Marley. Willy wants to improve the look of the eldians inside Marley by making them victims of paradis and also making paradis the permanent enemy to destroy in his speech. I also heard from a comment somewhere that they want to end the oppression Marley imposes on so many people and nations which would give opportunity for Marley to actually gain allies. Don’t know if the last part is correct however but it would make sense. Can someone explain Magath and Willy’s goal to me in detail I didn’t quite understand everything they wanted to do. From what I gather Magath and Willy both saw that Marley was on a path towards self destruction and want to reform Marley by killing of all the military leaders and Willy with his speech wants to improve things for the eldians in Liberio by making the eldians on paradis island permanent enemies they are gonna wipe out. with all the shit that went on in this episode i have to give yall creds for noticing how different Macgath (is that how you spell his name?) is. And how his view of Eldians was actually different from most. While in the first few episodes, it seem that he was just another Marley officer that looks down on Eldians, you can see that it was mostly for show and that deep down he knew that it wasn't so black and white. He saw that Marleyans were so out of tune with the war because they mainly sent Eldians to fight it for them and that even though Eldians were seen as spawns of the devil, he recognizes that they also played a part in making them so, hence calling themselves the devils. He's a very interesting character, definitely gives me Ketih Shadis vibes.

I think it's great how you discuss the conversation between Willy and Magath. You don't know how rare it is for a Reaction Channel to go so deep into an episode. Now being serious. I do love our guys, after all we spent 3 seasons with them. But in terms of favourites the warrior kids will always be up there for me, specially Reiner, Annie and Gabi. I adore Mikasa and Levi though. I understand that Eren is a complex and tragic character but to tell the truth I never really liked him, not even before he was dead inside. But I find endearing how much you girls love him. You're my favourite reactors because you're really compationate and love to analyze everything.

So glad you guys got to experience this ep in bluray for your 1st time. It's an amazing 10/10 episode but some of their designs looked SO wonky in the TV version that the bluray fixed in specific frames. They did however manage to make Jean look worse for this particular episode than he did in the TV version and I'm not sure why lol

I think Eren is the "most tragic" in that he's the main character, and the show seems to be shaping up to be a classical tragedy. (At least, that's my best guess not having read the manga). Ie tragic hero (Eren)...tragic flaw...tragic fall...tragic ending, like you two have been saying from the beginning. (Hopefully we will also get the catharsis that should come with it if the end of story is well told). But I also totally agree with Milena that you can't really say who is more tragic between Eren or Reiner. Not to mention other characters, like Levi, who have experienced their own share of tragedy.

I loved your post-episode discussion one point I would say is that in the conversation between Magath and Willy they placed all the military leaders in that position by the stage was because they expect Eren to kill them to try and cripple the army. But basically, the plan was to kill off all the military leaders and build a new army under Magath's control to lead the attack on paradise.
