Plus we're talking about Aang here. He wouldn't even detach from Katara to obtain control over the Avatar State. There's no way he would detach himself just to get flight.

Just because he knew about detachment doesn't mean he knew about the legend of Guru Laghima. Aang was young and probably couldn't even fathom that it is possible to fly. So he wouldn't know how to get in the right frame of mind to let go in that way. Even if he did (which he didn't) he couldn't like you just said do aang wouldn't be able to fly anyways

he was aware, remember that he did not wanted to kill lord ozai because of what the monks taught him, when avatar yangchen talked to aang, aang said "but the monks taught me that I have to detatch from the world so my spirit could be free" in other words he was attempting to complete his air master evolution to become detatched from the world and reach weightlessness, but he could never do it since he was the avatar and therefore cannot detatch himself from the world.....Zaheer in the other hand could and did because he's a simple human being, he had no responsabilities at all

Not just that. Aang probably didn't even know about that possibility of flying like that. He trained in what could be done, not ancient legends. I know you love aang Lola but he doesn't know everything, nor does he need to have all these abilities. Zaheer just unlocked the secret. The universe didn't give it to him. He just said what the necklace said and believed it in a leap of faith. Can't wait for the finale!

Keep in mind the problem Aang had at the end of book 2 when he was trying to open his chakras (he wasn’t willing to give up his connection to Katara). My guess is that Aang cared too much about Katara (and all his friends/ family) to ever truly become “weightless” like Zaheer. Aang couldn’t give up his ties to the physical world, but Zaheer did because his girlfriend was his last real tie keeping him “tethered” to the world. Once she died, he was able to achieve the flying ability because he had nothing else he loved.

Kuvira (the metalbender that saved Tonraq) was actually shown multiple times in the episodes that took place in Zaofu. In 3x05, she was one of the metalbenders practicing for Suyin's recital and at the end of the episode, she's on the front of the newspaper Lin was reading. In 3x08, she's one of the metalbenders fighting Zaheer and is one of the people being interrogated by Aiwei
