Apparently they were planning on ending it here, and can you imagine that ending scene being THE last episode of the series? I really like season 4 too but this ending would have made such a bittersweet powerful ending to the series, I’m kinda sad it didn’t end here

Funny thing is, Zaheer wasn’t actually beating her. Yes he landed more hits than she did (thanks to airbending being invisible and Zaheer’s agility), but Korra had him booking it nearly the entire time. In the end she knocked him out of the sky and would’ve hit him point-blank if not for the poison. And let’s not even mention how she broke out of that weird chain-thing no problem. So if idiots call Korra trash, don’t take them seriously because they obviously didn’t watch the same show.

Just because you have knowledge doesn't mean you always use it. It's never said that Aang consciously used a move that a previous avatar knew. Knowledge does not garuntee victory. Besides, Aang was still not consciously in control. Korra is. It gives Roku an advantage, but it does not, in fact, garuntee victory. And watch the finale again. There's a clear shot in book 2 epsilon 14 of Raava being as big as Vaatu was.

I love every time Bolin and Mako are fighting together! They fight so well, not only from their days of pro-bending, but also being brothers and being so in tune with eachother.

If she was in the Avatar state normally, no he probably wouldn't stand a chance. But she was under the effect of a powerful poison and her opponent was extremely skilled. The matchup felt pretty realistic to me.

Yup, I've always thought of it like superhuman strength goes hand-in-hand with superhuman durability or else you'd break your bones exerting all that extra force. Korra had enough raw strength in the Avatar state to break her platinum chains with physical force.

Hmm, I don't remember Raava having returned to her previous size when she fused with Korra again. If that's true, fair enough on her being stronger than before. But I'm going to still have to disagree on knowledge not being effectively a form of power, separately from the actual raw ability (which as you point out depends entirely on Raava, not on past lives). Aang, who had the knowledge of hundreds of air benders, was easily able to follow Ozai with that swirling air ball. Korra had to improvise because she lacked that knowledge. If you were to somehow put Roku's avatar state against Wan's avatar state, Roku would win, because he'd have hundreds or thousands of avatars combining their fighting experience. The knowledge makes a difference.

I knew you two would need some tissues, the finale did that to me as well. But season 4's finale really brought me to tears, because it was the end of the series. Remember Korra has the raw power of the Avatar state, but doesn't have the knowledge of the past Avatars. She was also poisoned, and would have been even more powerful without the poison. Zaheer took advantage of that, to try to take her out. But he failed! Now Korra is in that wheel chair and the tear she has is because of her spirit is broken, she can't use her legs, that is tough for anyone for either a bender or not.

That was before Raava. Look at Wan. He was not weak whatsoever in the avatar state and he had no past lives. Knowledge is not power in this scenario. Raava gives the physical boost, as shown in the Beginnings episodes. But the actual Knowledge is the only thing lost here. Not weaker at all. Raava was reborn in the finale of book 2. To her full capacity. When Wan fused with Raava, she was such a small sliver. When Raava bonded with Raava again, she was huge just like she was before Wan separated her from Vaatu. So yes, technically, Raava is stronger in Korra now than she was when she was killed by Unalaq.

Regarding Korra's seemingly impossible durability, I think this episode heavily implied that the avatar state is also making her much tougher than a human should be.

But if the avatar state is the combined *knowledge* of all avatars, not just a power boost (and that is how it was described if I recall correctly) I'd say quite a bit has been lost in terms of effective power (measured by ability), even if Korra has the same amount of raw power as before. I don't remember it being said that Raava was more powerful than before after her rebirth--what episode was that in?

I think people misunderstand how that works nothing has been lost in the avatar state her power levels are the exact same as Wan or Aang. The only thing that has been lost is the ability to talk to them and if one of them had knowledge of a specific move or way to use the elements in the avatar state, Korra can no longer use that but it's still the same as Aang so there's nothing she needs to prove. In fact raava is more powerful when she was reborn in Korra So if anything she is more powerful in the avatar state than the past avatars were

Jinorra knew that the poison was metallic because she was spying on the Red Lotus in her spirit form when they were injecting the poison into Korra. You were talking during that scene so that's why you missed it lol

I read both Kyoshi novels and they end in a way that make you wish for so much more. But I read online that there is no known plans for a third book. I would like to see a more mature story in the Avatar universe and Kyoshi's story is great for it. I would love if they turned the two novels into two seasons and end with their own third season.
But at the same time I would like to see the next Avatar after Korra. While Korra struggled with her spiritual side. I think it would be fitting if the Earth bending Avatar's strength is their connection to the spirits. You guys have talked about wanting to see something other than the typical "good Avatar". Vaatu may have been defeated, but as Raava stated before. Neither of them can be completely destroyed. Vaatu is severely weakened and resides in Raava for now. Maybe they could make the story around Vaatu awakening again. With his influence slowly affecting the next Avatar without them realizing it.

One thing you have to remember about the avatar state is that while the Avatar is in the state, they have the knowledge and power of all the previous Avatars. Korras Avatar state has more raw power than Aang's Avatar state because of what happened during harmonic convergence with Raava. However, Aang had all of the bending knowledge and techniques of the previous Avatars at his disposal. whereas Korra is now first in the new Avatar cycle, so she has more raw power, but not the techniques passed down through the Avatar Cycle.

zaheer was able to match korra's strength during the fight not only because of the poison but also the fact that while in the avatar state, korra didn't have the power of all her past life combined. it was all her against zaheer. still impressive if you ask me

Jinora knew the poison was metallic because she saw one of the red lotus members metalbending it into Korra earlier in the episode (while was astral projecting trying to find Korra) :)

Just so you know, the showrunners did have deal with some executive meddling from Nickelodeon for Book 4 that included budget cuts late into production and without spoiling anything, you can tell in episode 8. This led to the showrunners having to save money by choosing to either a) doing what they ended up doing in that episode or b) firing a bunch of their crewmembers. So if you're unsatified with that episode, blame Nickelodeon not the showrunners
