2021-09-20 17:38:05 +0000 UTC@Jacob- Yeah, maybe. I just thought it was worth mentioning as something to keep in mind for the future.

2021-09-20 01:48:17 +0000 UTCIt's tricky with fantasy to talk about the idea of "sometimes people just die", because there's only so realistic it can be. No named character, let alone a main character, will truly die randomly. Everything is a choice the writer makes; even if the idea came to him rather than him thinking directly about how to proceed with the story., he still chose to go in that direction. You're right that Armin acted perfectly in character. In my opinion, it would have been a good send-off for the character. That doesn't mean they can't fairly question the decision to "kill" him, or think that going in a different direction would have been better. I don't feel that diminishes his "death" on an emotional level to get into the storytelling mechanics of it. (And to be honest, I suspect they were just in denial due to not wanting Armin to be dead, rather than really questioning the writing, so it may be a moot point anyway).

2021-09-19 21:18:37 +0000 UTCYeah it sucks because 3x18 is my personal favourite ep of AoT... but i know the girls will give a good reaction and appreciate this beautifully constructed episode anyway.

2021-09-19 15:47:29 +0000 UTCOh yeah I actually got it mixed up, I also meant the Erwin spoiler thing. Still, even if they figured it would be used on Armin (like literally everyone including manga readers bc of plot armor) it's going to be a lot weaker because they 100% know the outcome, there will not be that tiny nagging feeling of 'but what if this is it for Armin' that caused the scene to be so effective

2021-09-19 15:03:27 +0000 UTCI think they would have come to the conclusion that the shot was gonna be used for Armin even if they didn't see the 3x12 ending. Erwins death was obviously spoiled beforehand and in this 3x17 reaction they are denying Armins death and thinking from the writers perspective of Armins character being wasted just to die a hero when there could be more to him. They managed to put together that there was gonna be a fight about the syringe but them knowing the choice would be Armin comes from thinking like the writer aka Erwins character arc being finished and Armins not.

2021-09-19 10:23:04 +0000 UTCThis will sound bad but in retrospect I do think they should have avoided it because the reaction probably wasn't worth it. obviously I love their reactions since I'm a patron, but different people have different reactions to different things, and the S3E12 thing wasn't something that instilled a crazy response from them, so I would've been fine with them not watching it in return for episode 18 actually having some tension

2021-09-19 05:57:07 +0000 UTCWe don't get much of a good reaction if they already anticipate something coming and somehow piece the information together. The whole point of that teaser was so that people wouldn't lose hype after waiting 3 months for the next part, but since they're binging the show there was no reason for them to watch that teaser, it just ruins the surprise and blindness of the reaction.

2021-09-18 19:26:14 +0000 UTCThey are a reaction channel. Part of the fun is seeing how they react to stuff. That stinger is fun. Fun is good.

2021-09-18 16:31:12 +0000 UTCBecause apparently it's a super important part of the story to get that preview Β―\_(γ)_/Β―. I asked the same question and got attacked lol

2021-09-18 15:23:49 +0000 UTC@Sam - Sure, you can have whatever opinion you want. But here it's the same as saying in real life "this person died too young. He had so much more to live." Stories, just like life, are often tragic. You don't always get what you want. It doesn't mean it's bad writing. It's important to honor people's stories, even if those stories are sometimes short.

2021-09-18 13:54:45 +0000 UTCSince theyβve seen ep 18 already, this is why I donβt get why people urge reactors to watch the end credits of 3x12. The show went on hiatus when that episode came out, people are binge watching now so it just clues people off to a confrontation that theyβll see in a couple of days anyway.

2021-09-18 12:37:23 +0000 UTCyou can criticise a writer's choice of a character death though if you think the character could have developed a lot more, you're entitled to your opinion.
Sam
2021-09-18 12:06:26 +0000 UTCFun fact: The chapter with Armin's sacrifice in the manga released on Worlds Ocean Day and National Best Friends Day Btw, loved the moment in the beginning with Lola saying "I don't think we'll retreat" and then correcting herself and saying "them". The 'us VS them' dichotomy will be very important soon...

2021-09-18 06:27:03 +0000 UTCI'm fully aware of that. It's a general thing I often see people do. And even if they did see ep 18 already, during ep 17 they thought his death was real, and that's what I'm addressing here.

2021-09-18 05:17:53 +0000 UTCPeople often die before their time in real life, girls. A realistic story is not afraid to depict such tragedies. This isn't Hollywood, after all. Sometimes we'll get happy endings, but don't be in denial when tragedy happens. This is good storytelling. Everything Armin did was in character, and he SAVED everyone. Truly a hero. I think there's no need to diminish his "death" by protesting that it was wrong from your point of view. I think by doing that, in some way it's disrespectful to the heroic choices that boy made. (I know you weren't disrespecting, and are simply very attached to him. But in general, that's how those views can come off, in my opinion). Edit: Obviously I'm aware they've seen ep 18. Doesn't mean one can't keep this idea in mind for the future.
