Better Call Saul 6x03 Full Reaction

SURE MIKE WOULD HAVE KILLED EVERYBODY, HE'S SO COOL!!!! What are you talking about? Mike would have killed Nacho if he shot Bolsa first and that's the sad truth. If he wanted to kill anybody else, he would have to kill Gus as well, because otherwise Gus would have tortured and killed his family. And he won't kill Gus, because then he would not have a way to suppress his guilty conscience anymore, would go back to drinking and probably got himself killed. Mike's honorable, so he will obviously protect Nacho's father, but he's still an asshole that won't hesitate to kill for his own benefit.

I've been busier than usual these last number of weeks so I haven't been able to engage with LM Reactions comments as much as I really want to. I have to pop my head in to applaud Michael Mando for his performance here. What's so great about BCS is it's often so reserved and mature in storytelling, and unwilling to do something dramatic simply for the sake of a cheap thrill, that when you have episodes like these they feel earned. We are all truly blessed to have recieved the greatest show of all time, twice, from the same storytelling team. Being alive is awesome.

I only just caught that. i KNEW him breaking that glass wasn't just a throwaway occurrence when I first saw it, I just couldn't figure out what it was leading to 😅

It was so satisfying for Nacho to be able to talk down to the psycho cousins and hector. They rule by fear and he got to tell them the truth to their stupid faces. They could no longer control him, he was now fearless in the face of death. It’s hard to watch this episode and really care about Kim and what she’s up to. It’s like ‘okay Kim but I really don’t care about Howard right now I’m sorry’.

yo i just got that ignacio picked up the piece of glas that gus broke on accident

Nik

Anyone else noticing Kim only wearing red now? Always dark maroon jacket, the colour of the underworld. When she grabbed Saul's red tie, she gave him that loving kiss - showing her desire for this underworld that she's embarking on with Saul. Her painting which has their heist plans on the back of it is red and blue, underworld and law world - later that day in the court house she's got a dark blue shirt with a maroon jacket, her underworld mixing in with her law world. She's wearing a lot more red than Saul this season.

Mike at this point was fed up with Gus, him saying "do it" was him asking Nacho to make the first move by killing Bolsa and Mike most likely would have started shooting anyone he could kill from his perfect overlooking position. Obviously we know BB storyline so they can't die, but in this event I think Mike would have gladly betrayed Gus to take down multiple of these drug lords etc. What an amazing episode.

Dustywood

Well... several of my theories have now been dusted. However, what a way to wrap up one storyline though.

Welp, it’s official. Vince Gilligan & Peter Gould HATE Lola & Milena 😭 I’m still in shock. I just have this “sick to my stomach feeling”; that gut punched feeling. I haven’t felt this way since the start of Season 7 of The Walking Dead.

Julian San

What an amazing episode. Just when you think it can't get any better they hit you with something like this. Just how much better can this show get? I'm dying to hear your breakdown.

Anthony Ubelhor

The last phone call, just like with Hank... I still had no idea it was coming!

Mike Miner

We are only on episode 3 and they hit us with this masterpiece. This is going to be a hell of a ride to the end.

From a recent interview with Michael Mando: "Every single one of them is dead, if you think about it. There’s an ominous thing to this scene, where these are all dead men walking, watching the first man die. But they’re already dead, they just don’t know it yet."

Ugh I’m not ready

Michael Beveraggi

Okay cool, yes. We're on the same page. I've seen a number of posts taking it the extra step and assuming he was supposed to do in Bolsa.

Isaac

Gus's plan was not for Nacho to kill Bolsa. Gus's plan was for Nacho to convince Bolsa that it was Alvarez and then Nacho would take off acting like he was trying to escape and Victor would shoot him to prevent the Salamanca's from torturing him. Nacho getting the glass piece wasn't planned. He grabbed it out of the trash the night before it's a piece of the glass Gus broke. Nacho breaking his restraints and grabbing Bolsa's gun was all on his own. Had he killed Bolsa there, Gus would have probably killed Nacho's father. He knew the only way this ends is with him dead so he didn't give anybody else the satisfaction of doing it and saved his father in the process.

SO excited to see Rhea Seehorn in the chair next week

Isaac

I've seen this viewpoint a few times and would like to discuss it because I'm not convinced. I don't think Nacho was supposed to kill Bolsa. That should not have been a part of Gus' plan. One, it should have been hard to envision the stage being set perfectly for him to do just that. Secondly, I don't see it furthering Gus' plan, as of now. Bolsa is Gus' easiest pawn to manipulate. It's worked at every turn and when Gus wants him dead, he does so without trouble. Convincing him was his best angle because at the end of the day, the Salamanca's will always want him dead.

next weeks episode is directed by kim wexler herself

Going to apologize in advance for the length of this comment lol, but Nacho deserves it and there's so much to unpack here. Everything about his death was executed to perfection. His entire arc he's been stuck under the thumbs of the Salamanca's and Gus, desperately trying to find some way out. Nacho was dead the moment he went back to Gus, and he knew it. He said it to Gus himself, "the only way this works for you is with me dead." The only way to ensure his father's safety was to agree to Gus's plan in exchange for his father's protection. Last time Nacho was on his knees and zip-tied was when Gus told him he knew what he did to Hector and he owns him now. This time, Nacho was going to go out on HIS terms. For however brief it would be, HE was finally going to be in charge. This is the first time all series he's had power. Real power. He had been taking orders, been told what to do, or otherwise bullied the whole show before finally deciding to take control of his fate. His final act being to defy Gus's plan, while still protecting Gus's reputation so he'd protect his father, and confessing to Hector before killing himself finally ends his cycle of suffering and frees him from their control. A final showdown between Nacho and Lalo might have been cool, but it also would have been really predictable and this was so much better. Another important part of this: notice how visibly shaken Gus was walking away after, and how nervous he looked during Nacho's speech that he would end up telling the Salamanca's the truth. This may be the turning point where Gus finally starts to see Mike's point of view that fear is not an effective motivator. Perhaps Gus is starting to realize that it may be better to win an ally over to his side rather than forcing someone to his through fear and intimidation. This is why Gus changes how he approaches Jesse. Nacho's death is also integral to Mike's relationship with Jesse. Jesse is so similar to Nacho, a boy with a good heart who is constantly being manipulated and controlled by other people, and this is why Mike gets attached to him. Mike not only failed to protect his son Matty, but he also failed to protect Nacho. This makes Jesse's survival that much sweeter as Mike had a huge impact on why Jesse got clean and went to Alaska. I think these two answers by Michael Mando, Nacho’s actor, from an interview about this episode, perfectly summarize Nacho’s character. On the final phone call between Nacho and his father: “In that moment, Nacho can run. He’s free to go. But he’s staring the sunset in the eyes, and he’s looking back at his father and saying ‘Come with me.’ And his father says no. It’s in that moment that Nacho knows that he’s going to walk back into hell and sacrifice himself for the love of his father.” On his death: “The image of Nacho is the image of sacrifice, true love, and bravery. It’s not the image of revenge. The ultimate act that defines the character is the act of sacrifice, and not anger, but love.” RIP to one of the best characters in this universe. I am going to miss him so much.

Dante

what an episode....

I usually wait for the edit, but I physically cannot stop myself from watching with you now Lots to say about this episode. The callbacks to both Ozymandias desert scene and the BCS S2 finale Klick (Mike sniping a shed in the desert) were well-executed.
