Very rough Norwegian indeed. I'm from Norway and I don't understand a word she is singing :)

Jan Fulton

I know you two were heated with the MCRN but you can't really blame their response. They couldn't simply let Holden come back out. Everyone in that space is currently in a state of fear, awe, and mad confusion. Now Holden is randomly triggering things inside that same space to an unknown end. So far all they know is that this space was capable of slowing down all their ships and being to pull all of them towards the very thing Holden's heading to. It's only logical that the MCRN would want to prevent Holden from doing more unknown things in an unknown space that'll lead to unknown results.

IDK where people find the self-restraint to not binge these.

@Luis: Lazy writing? The authors explained a mind-bending philosophical shift in a handful of taut sentences. That conversation is a masterpiece, which is why the show chose to highlight it here with the "out of context" "monkeys and microwaves" quote.

Christopher Alexander

That style of writing is not intended to be flowing prose. It does exactly what it intends imo. Humans scrabbling around in the dark only seeing one piece of a much larger puzzle. It's purposely stop-start and written like that. I just think you don't understand or appreciate what the author's trying to get at here.

Camzeee

I dunno where youre from Luis, but in the States they sell precooked frozen burritos at grocery stores. All youre doing with the microwave is reheating them to eating temperature, not cooking them.

Ken Hendel

That entire passage is poorly written. Grab any sentence and read it aloud and it's pretty clear how lazily they're written. It killed humans, therefore it was a weapon. But radiation killed humans, and a medical X-ray machine wasn’t intended as a weapon. Push a button, a light comes on inside, so it’s a light.

Luis

Disagree. English isn't a very literal language. And to say that one sentence makes the books not well written is stupid as well. It makes sense to me and is no reflection on writing quality.

Camzeee

Nope you’d be reheating a burrito. Frozen is literal because that’s the word that was chosen. They could have chosen to leave out the word frozen and it would be much more correct.

Luis

That's a bizarre comment by Luis. What's wrong with 'reheat a frozen burrito' lol. Frozen isn't literal. If I eat half a burrito and put it in the fridge, and then reheat it in the microwave it's completely fine to call that 'reheat a frozen burrito'.

Camzeee

I’m sure the books are well plotted but they are definitely not well written. For instance you don’t reheat frozen food. Lazy sentences.

Luis

"The patron saint of lost causes" Miller said that to Dawes back in season 1 if I remember right.

HenryM

God those books are so brilliantly written

Dante

rewatching it's impressive to note the episode is only 39 minutes, the pacing they managed to navigate in theese is great, they acomplish so much and do it well

Re: Monkeys and microwaves, that was Holden talking, the others can't hear Miller. Also, it's a nod to a passage from the books. "It killed humans, therefore it was a weapon. But radiation killed humans, and a medical X-ray machine wasn’t intended as a weapon. Holden was starting to feel like they were all monkeys playing with a microwave. Push a button, a light comes on inside, so it’s a light. Push a different button and stick your hand inside, it burns you, so it’s a weapon. Learn to open and close the door, it’s a place to hide things. Never grasping what it actually did, and maybe not even having the framework necessary to figure it out. No monkey ever reheated a frozen burrito."

Alex Antonio

"Miller this isn't weed..."

The intro is more Norwegian inspired than actual Norwegian. The writer/singer of the song basically picked very rough Norwegian translations of the words without proper syntax or grammar to get the sound she wanted, so it is very much a poem in song form. I de sa morgenen jeg (In the so tender morning I) Stige asoke (rise in search) Ja lyn tid jeg vet ha delt (yes it's lightning time I know I share) Skulder dett be na more (shouldering this I ask now for darkness)

Ken Hendel
